So I was bored and had some extra cash and bought some of the WWF DVDs I had been putting off getting. Benoit, Road Warriors and the 80s Stars are the ones I got. I watched the 80s one and it was almost disgusting the way Michael Cole would never say wrestling during his narrations. It was always sports entertainment. I know wrestling is a dirty word and everything with the WWF but come on this was just stupid.

I just saw the BoogeyMan's debut on Smackdown and it was so weird and awful that I couldn't even laugh at how bad the segment was.

Some tidbits from an interview that can be read here: He got heat for his comments about Smackdown guys being lazy when he was still on RAW, but he still thinks there's some people who aren't completely motivated. He thinks the hardest working guys in the company are HHH and Taker. When asked about him going over HHH three times "there were no politics involved". He buries JBL by not offering any comment on their matches beyond "We had zero chemistry". He buries OVW again while saying Bobby Lashley isn't ready to be in WWE yet. Obviously DAVE~! doesn't watch OVW TV, as he'd see what a good booker can do with someone like Lashley. He repeated the new m…

Tomorrow is the 1 year anniversary of Joe-Punk II so what other great matches happened this week? The only other one, off the top of my head is Misawa-Kobashi 10-21-97.

The one word to describe this match is utilitarian. It got the job done, and little else. It was an eight minute match with one goal: get Brock over with the Japanese fans, and it did exactly that, with Brock destroying the biggest star in New Japan and beating their champion. However, it came at the expense of any real drama or entertainment. Brock was never in peril, and neither was anyone else, really. It was brawling between two men until the third intruded. Wash, rinse, and repeat. The real highlight of this match was Chono -- as always, he was a ring general, and sold like crazy for Brock's offense. This could have been a great match if it was just Brock and Chono, …

You know, 10 years ago, I think it would have been totally reasonable to suspect that Wight would be the biggest star in wrestling (not just in stature) today, if only because of his size, natural charisma and the fact that guys his size are typically protected and pushed hard. Instead, he's been jobbed out, had major bouts with laziness and apathy, has had totally inconsistent booking in two major promotions and is a *total* waste of potential. Most of the time, guys like RVD and Jericho are the ones people think of when they think of the can't-miss superstars the business has missed the boat on, but I think this may even be a bigger case, because you don't even have to …

Wrestling fans have always had options when it came to what show they wanted to watch. Whether it was WWFE, NWA/WCW, ECW, AWA, or if you were lucky, a regional promotion like World Class or Memphis, there was always an alternative if you didn't like one company's style of product. With everyone but WWE folding and TNA just now beginning to emerge as a viable second option, a lot of the IWC (led by Meltz) are pimping MMA as an alternative for wrestling fans. Meltz even tries to make it sound like you have to be a MMA fan to be a complete fan of wrestling. I'm wondering if the blending of MMA and pro wrestling isn't like forcing together cats and dogs. On paper …

The rumor has floated around on various sites and he confirmed it in today's Ross Report in his usual babbling way. I think Ross has had to go along with Lawler since at least 2002. He's been a parody of himself and I think you can blame a lot of the lower card guys not getting over on the fact that the announcers just ignore them to talk about Triple H or Austin during their matches. Normally I would see this as a positive but Lawler's probably still going to be around and the fact that the WWF doesn't have one good announcer under contract, not counting Cole and Tazz, has me worried. I think they'll manage to stick someone in there that'll have me wishing Ross w…

This thread is inspired by the conversation going on in the Loss4Words 100 thread. We were discussing some round-robin matchups that we would like to see involving Dick Murdoch, Ric Flair and Butch Reed. A few months back, I received a tape from Loss of different round-robin matchups created by Frank Jewett that featured different wrestlers. These included the following... Round Robin I - Inoki, Rhodes, Backlund, Hansen Antonio Inoki v Dusty Rhodes (NJPW 11/08/79, ***) Antonio Inoki v Bob Backlund (NJPW 11/30/79, ****1/4) Antonio Inoki v Stan Hansen (NJPW 02/08/80, ***1/2) Stan Hansen v Dusty Rhodes (NJPW 05/16/80) Bob Backlund v Dusty Rhodes (NJPW 05/27/…

Since TNA and New Japan have a working deal (Liger working Bound for Glory) and Inoki has always been a mark for the NWA, could it be feasable for the new IWGP champ to make an appearance on a TNA show?

From the Observer site: Not a bad start. Keeping people throughout the entire show is a positive sign for them. They outperformed Velocity.

I left off the 00's categories because we haven't completed the decade yet, and as far as the rest, I'll just say I'll go along with what the majority wants, but if you love me, you won't want us to do Mexico, Europe or MMA first.

I think this is huge for New Japan. Brock Lesnar and Matt Morgan could be megastars for them. They've been wanting to put the IWGP Title on Lesnar for awhile so you might see that happen here.

So ... we're going to be starting something very similar to what DVDVR is doing at their board, but slightly different. Beginning some time around the first of the year, we're going to be doing a long series of Best Match lists, based on the interest in the idea when I did my recent poll. The idea is that we start nominations now for as much stuff in all categories as we possibly can. I will go about trying to track down as much of the footage that's nominated as I possibly can and send out DVDs with the matches included for those who are participating. The only costs involved would be covering postage and blank DVDs. If there was a service fee, it would be minimal. …

We all know the four biggest draws in US wrestling of the past quarter century have been Hogan, Austin, Rock and Andre. So, who comes in after that? You have a lot of guys that are really close. There are a lot of guys here who have a strong case, and there are some I only included to see if anyone voted for them, but I think this is worth talking about. I'll tell you my opinion later.

Since the other thread mostly pertains to the controversy surrounding Warrior's recent comments and not so much the DVD itself, I thought a new thread was in order. I opted for the "collector's edition," which features nothing more than three matches. One of them's the Summerslam '92 match with Savage, so I figured it was worth the extra couple of bucks. To get the ball rolling, let's focus first on the feature. Earlier reports had me wondering what in the world is wrong with WWE for ponying up all this time, effort, and coin just so they can bury a guy. But watching it, the moments of WWE-style burying were few and far between. Truth is, few things were said of …

Could this show come across as anymore desperate and hotshotting? Anyway, if they do a six-man tag with these guys, it'll probably be better than Angle/Michaels or Edge/Hardy.

Complete with flip flops to show his feet. Now, why in the hell would you waste a legends segment with Rob Conway?

Meltzer: Both sides are very happy. Raw did a 4.4 and UFC did a 1.6. Ultimate Fighter did a 1.3.
