Lord Al Hayes dead at 77 By GREG OLIVER - Producer, SLAM! Wrestling http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2005/0...21/1141424.html Remembering Lord Alfred Hayes -- who died Wednesday at age 77 -- as just the buffoon second-banana on the WWF Tuesday Night Titans is to do a huge injustice to one of the greatest wrestlers ever to come out of the United Kingdom. Beginning to wrestle in the early 1950s in Britain, the 5-foot-9, 238-pound "Judo" Al Hayes was a top-notch heel wherever he wrestled in the 1960s and 1970s, including Florida, the Central States territory and Texas. He was usually billed as being from Windermere, England. Then, in 1982, he joined the…

WWF IC Championship Bret Hart ? vs. Davey Boy Smith August 29, 1992 (aired 8/31/92) London, England Wembley Stadium In 1992, I was a new fan to the spectacle that is pro wrestling. I was still learning the names of several of the superstars when the buildup for Summer Slam began. While I still didn't know a dragon suplex from a a slingshot suplex, I did have my favorites. One was ?The British Bulldog? Davey Boy Smith, whose combination of power and agility blew me away. Another was Bret ?The Hitman? Hart, the reigning Intercontinental Champion. Hart had me hooked when I saw him wrestle the Barbarian on Prime Time Wrestling and, despite being at a size and st…

  5. Owen Hart vs. The Man They Call Vader (Sep. 27, 1997, One Night Only) This match is from the UK PPV ?One Night Only?, the show where HBK defeated the British Bulldog for the European belt. Since Bulldog was an overwhelming face in the main event, the other members of the Hart Foundation play face in their matches, as we see Owen shaking hands with the fans and playing face-in-peril throughout the match. Early on, Vader establishes his dominance by tossing Owen around. The announcers play up the speed vs. strength angle that is commonplace in these types of mismatches. Initially, when they give Owen his shine segment, this match shows great promise. Owen strings …

So I was watching some WSWA (Winnipeg league) from late 89/early 90 and the one of the two guys that impressed me the most was Bret Como. He was still learning in there but you could tell he was hungry and he was already good. The kind of guy you have to keep your eye because you know he has potential to be a star. He was trained by Les Thornton and Dynamite Kid according to his website. The weird thing is I haven't seen the guy work afterwards which must be fate playing some kind of cruel trick on me. Is anyone familiar with his best matches? http://www.moondogmanson.com/blackdragon/i....php?target=bio Interesting note -- "Bulldog" Bob Brown pr…

The JBL "Great American" ad, Eddy/Benoit getting 20 minutes, and Rey/Crazy getting 15-20 minutes is enough for me to check out this show. Benoit/Guerrero is a crap shoot anymore, but you never know when they might surprise you.

In the WO News thread, teke mentioned Owen breaking Austin's neck. Just recently, while compiling matches for the Hart Foundation compilation, I rewatched this match. This was heading toward classic status until the ending which was one of the most brutal non-gimmicked spots I have ever seen. Well, this started the juices flowing and made me think what direction this would have led both men had the accident not have happened. First off, after the accident, it was known that Austin did not want to work a program with Owen because of the injury. HBK did not want to work a program because of the Bret hart situation. This led to Owen being stuck in a HHH feud and eventu…

I just had this curious thought whilsy watching a WCW six man tag. At some point when were kids we thought wrestling was real. They purported it to be real and as we saw little aside from boxing we didn't know that actual fighting was not like pro wrestling. Some of us even tried to do wrestling moves and matches with our friends in our living rooms and back yards, curious as to why this didn't work like it does on TV. But at what point did you go beyond thinking "this isn't realistic" to "you know, Bret Hart won't lose to this chump, he'll probably hold it for a while because he's earned his spot"? When did you question it all and when did you actually take an interest i…

I was reading WWE's finanical filings (ever since I took accounting classes, that stuff interests me) and I saw this in the section on the new TV deal: I've seen it mentioned as a hypothetical before, but this is the first thing I've read that confirms it: Saturday Night's Main Event is back!

  19. I thought we had a "Is this true or not?" discussion on this board but maybe I was imagining things? Anyway, this situation here has always intrigued me. Can anyone comment on it? Text taken from the match reviews folder Loss -- I've heard this several times. I've always wondered if it was true or just speculation. Has this been confirmed? So if this is indeed true and we step into the alleged mindset of the bookers that means that the bookers would risk turning everyone off of the PPV right off of the bat by giving Badd and Pillman enough time to have a bad match. That means their dislike of Pillman and Badd was greter than putt…

Before we dive into the match, on Volume Three/Disc Two, there is a brief history of the feud put together by Mid-South. I?ll run down the feud to get an idea of how we got to this point? ---This feud was two years in the making when DiBiase double-crossed Duggan on April 21, 1983. DiBiase knocked Duggan out at a TV taping and joined Genral Skandor Akbar?s Devastation Inc. ---Duggan exacted revenge later on by breaking a 2x4 over DiBiase?s back. ---DiBiase strung together a long list of victories (according to the video) which helped DiBiase get to Duggan. ---Before a match with Duggan & Dr. Death, DiBiase attacked Duggan in the parking ot, and would…
