When I see Rob Conway, I see potential. When I see Sylvain Grenier, I see him holding back Rob Conway. I think that Conway could be a break away star. The problem is, if you take Conway away from Grenier, what happens to Grenier? He'd just be another lost wrestler in a sea of under-utilized talent. Perhaps it'd be the other way around and WWE would only use Grenier? Would it be worth the risk though? I mean, La R?sistance aren't doing a lot as a tag team. Hell, even with the Heart Throbs showing up on Raw last week, you have to believe that the Raw tag team scene is dead. Perhaps they'd be better off if they split up? They've done everything that a tag team can do in …

It's been apparent for a long time that the bigger you are, the better shot you have of getting onto WWE TV. Just look at Chris Masters as an example. He's not ready to wrestle at all yet he gets Raw time. We've also seen Chris Benoit & Eddy Guerrero win the World Titles recently. They were depushed afterwards but they still reached the top. A couple of years ago, nobody would've seen that coming. With some of the best indy talent in the US today being under 250lbs and 6' tall, one has to wonder: Will size always matter in WWE? If size matters so much to Vince, why isn't The Big Show currently in the middle of a five year world title reign? Why do the…

In this day and age, how much does the commentary even matter? WCW had bad commentary, especially when Stevie Ray and Ed Ferrera were doing it. Ring of Honor has always had bad commentary. The commentary in XPW was the shits. So, how much does it even matter anymore? Obviously Jerry "The King" Lawler doesn't bring a lot to the table. He just acts like a horny old man and switches between heel and face at the drop of a hat. The only thing consistant about him is his friendship with Jim Ross. His jokes are well beyond stale. Jim Ross just isn't himself anymore. He's obviously a shell of his former self and I believe that he should've been replaced a long time ago.…

Matt is a very open, intelligent guy, so the shoot interview should be very good. I'm not sure how he'll fit in with the ROH workers though. He'll definitely be more well received than Jeff was, and he'll easily outwork Jeff, but can he adapt? It's hard to say yes or no, considering that most of the best of his career has been spent working the WWE style and doing TLC stuntshows, but at the same time, he's always seemed like he could be far better than he was showing, at least to me. I do think he's an above-average worker, but can he keep up? We'll see. That said, if he's committed to them over the long haul, he'll be the biggest name they have, aside from Mick Foley…

I think we should all find a consensus on how we're going to evaluate the choices before we start naming names, so we're all in tune with each other. So, what do you think? Money drawn? Impact? Ability in the ring? Speaking skills? A combination of all of the above? I personally would rather just go with ability in the ring, but if someone has a viewpoint otherwise, please share it.

Just posting the matches set up for the final 8 spots in the top 64. Marc Mero v Yoshihiro Taijiri Al Snow v Val Venis IRS/Mike Rotunda v Savio Vega Terry Funk v Rikishi Brainbusters v Killer Bees Adrian Adonis v Bad News Brown Don Muraco v Greg Valentine Honky Tonk Man v Jerry Lawler Voting will take place on all of these Saturday. Just posting this to let everyone know the matches. I'm closing this now because no one should be voting yet, and saying your picks doesn't really accomplish anything at this point anyway. Sunday, I'll set the brackets since we'll know all the contestants, and Monday, we'll start voting. The tournament wi…

For anyone with DVD burners, do the current models allow for the ability to copy one match from a DVD on to a burned DVD and then put another match from another DVD on to the same burned "compilation" DVD? Do you need to have a massive hardrive or can you put those together like you would in a VCR to VCR transfer? Thanks, Tim

El Hijo del Santo v Negro Casas - WWA 07/18/87 - Mask v Hair Take my thoughts on this with a total grain of salt, as prior to this match, the only lucha I've seen is the following: *the 16-man Cibernetico from 04/97 *a Rey/Juvi match from '93 *Rey/Calo/Winners v Heavy Metal/Picudo/Psicosis from AAA 02/93 *Some Rey/Psicosis match from '95 *Atlantis/Villano III from 03/17/00 Granted, I did love all of those matches, and this one gets added to the "loved it" pile as well, so I guess I'm on an unbreakable streak with the lucha libre. I love Santo's vigilante introduction; he seems like he just happened to stop by the arena, saw there was a show going on and th…

I've been very busy with a lot of stuff so I'm sorry that I haven't had enough time to keep up with my posting as much as I should. I thought that I would give you an update as to what I've been up to as well as address some things that have been mentioned in some of the wrestling sites, on my official website (www.BobbiBillard.com), my yahoo group, and on MySpace.com. First off, regarding the whole WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) thing. I appreciate the many many responses that I have gotten regarding the whole supposedly getting "released" from WWE again that some of the wrestling sites have been reporting. A lot of you have expressed to me that you really would…

  13. We've had a mild slow down in traffic and I just wanted to get a feel for what it is you guys would like to see more of in the wrestling folder. By that, I mean, do you want to go back to doing the Thoughts On The Following Wrestlers posts every day? Do you want to talk about matches more? Do you prefer that we talk about current wrestling or past wrestling? Do you want more talk about Puroresu? About lucha? About the indies? Should we focus mostly on WWE? Basically, any feedback/suggestions you have on making the wrestling folder a better place can be put in this thread. Have fun.

Anyone know about this or plan on watching it? It's an all cage match PPV. http://www.tnawrestling.com/lockdown/index.html I don't know how I feel about the PPV gimmick but the matches don't seem to be too bad on paper. Just thought I'd make a non-WWE post and give you guys a heads up in case anyone was interested.

  15. Statement: There is no such thing as a 100% accurate star rating or even anything that's a 70% accurate star rating for a wrestling match. So do you agree or disagree? Myself, I agree. Well actually for an indivudal person a star rating is accurate to him or her but to everyone? No way. For example Dynamite Kid vs Tiger Mask 4/83 is signifigantly better than Misawa vs Kawada from 6/94. Notice how I didn't say it's my favourite but that it's actually better. That's a statement that gets attention but you know what? It's 100% true. True to me and a few other people anyway but for a lot of people they will state that in no way shape or form is t…

I started the process tonight of going through my VHS tapes and figuring out what I want to keep, since I'm getting them all converted to DVD in coming months and in installments. So I just grabbed the first tape I saw and took my chances. In this case, it was a four-hour Memphis comp from 1985. Tomorrow, I'll go back to watching DVDs, the next day VHS and so on. I figure it's the only way I can get both done at the same time. Standout matches: Jerry Lawler v Randy Savage - Mid South Coliseum They don't actually show anything of the match but the finish, but the post-match angle is glorious. Savage gets DQ'd for his manager, Tux Newman (a good talker but a total B…

  17. Simple question really. Do you think he had a lot of potential? He seems to be a great talker. He has a decent look. He can garner heat in his current gimmick. He also seems to be improving fast as every match he's in, at least to me, seems to be better than the previous match. Of course, he hasn't had a match in awhile. Still, I like that he's using the Camel Clutch more now. I wasn't digging the Flatliner being his finisher. When he does the Flatliner to set up the Camel Clutch though, that's cool. I dig Daivari too. Actually, I might even like him more. So, what do you guys think of the tandem? As far as their WWE work is concerned.

Have fun, guys - in the meantime, I'll try to work out a link to this folder on the front page of the board.

I originally had the Canadian Stampede match posted but deleted it so I could post the two of these together in a back-to-back situation. TAKA Michinoku vs. The Great Sasuke (Canadian Stampede) Off the bat, the Fed tells you where their interests lie since the Japanese guys have to stand around while HHH-Foley brawl through the crowd. The early portion of the match is a little bothersome for me. On the one hand, you have Sasuke establishing dominance with his hard striking kicks to the legs, midsection and/or the head. On the other hand, you have the problems that typically plague many junior matches from this time. They work in some submission segments t…

Randy Orton v Mick Foley - WWE Backlash 2004 I didn't understand the love for this one at all. I think they're essentially working Mick Foley's Greatest Hits, with Orton taking a few good bumps and having some cool facial expressions here and there, but there's not really anything great happening. I thought the match had a little too much chicanery -- Bischoff comes out and threatens to stop the show if Foley lights Barbie on fire; they disappear for a minute or so before working their way back in front of the audience; when Orton takes the bump off of the ramp, tons of people rush over to check on him and the match's flow almost totally stops. Why were there so m…

I watched Taker/Brock: HiaC from No Mercy 02 last night. It is underrated but there are a couple of galring spots that keep it from being great IMO. The backstory is that Taker had his right hand broken by Brock not once but twice in the weeks leading up to the match. Taker even gets an "unethical" shot of pain killer in the hand before the match. So how does the match start, you ask? With Taker punching with his right hand, of course. Brock tries to escape the cage at the very beginning, showing fear and then goes back in and beats the hell out of Taker. Huh? If he's scared why would take it right to the guy? The fear thign should have been dropped. Broc…

  24. Johnny Smith/Phil Lafleur (the 2nd Dan Kroffat, name inspired by I believe Guy Lafleur the famous Montreal Canadians hockey player) vs Steve Disalvo/Hashimoto Stampede -- Sometime in 1987 Unfortunatley, I've only seen the short version of this but what I did see was very good. Smith and Lafleur are the faces while Disalvo and Hashimoto are the heels. We join the match with Smith playing face in peril. Smith is really good here and manages to hit some nice trademark Stampede stuff including a nice running dropkick off of the ropes. Not the way Perfect did it but kind of like the way Toyota would hit her dropkicks. He mangaes to make a tag but of course t…

Ric Flair v Harley Race - Starrcade 1983 (Cage Match) To properly explain this match, the setting and circumstances surrounding the match are crucial parts of the story. It's necessary to understand the impact, the emotion and the place in history this match has. Ric Flair won his first world championship on September 17, 1981, from Dusty Rhodes, in Kansas City, Missouri. Flair was winning the NWA World Championship for the very first time, in a town where neither was a known star, from a champion that was unhappy about dropping the belt. Flair proceeded to hold the belt for 21 months, touring Japan and making a name for himself. He went to All Japan Pro Wrestling, wh…
