I felt sort of left out and decided I would try something better than going year by year. I want to go with Triple H .vs. Shawn Micheals I believe it was the last RAW of 2002. The match was so good words can't describe it. After all of the action, Triple H retained after what I believe was a draw. I can't remember exactly how it went down because I only saw it once but it was an excellent battle. If anyone can maybe remember what it was that caused Trips to keep his title, I would love it if you could post a reminder below. Thanks

Perhaps not the best title, but I didn't want to use "anything" twice in there. Anyway... Does anything matter any more? I was watching the "Bloodbath" DVD, and someone mentions that a plancha was a huge deal back then, because it was something that you never saw. Now, of course, you could see a plancha several times in one match. Face and heel turns have lost meaning, because they happen so often. Back when I was a child, having a turn meant so much because you were so used to having someone as a good guy that having them cheat was a huge shock. Now, you've got someone like Brock Lesnar, who, over the course of a two year career turned something like 4 ti…

This was generally a fun year, idiotic booking aside in WWE, so there's some stuff here I'd love to talk about. Most notable on that list, at least for WWE, would be Rock/Jericho v Benoit/Show from the RAW the night after the Royal Rumble in '01. Really sweet match with everyone doing everything they're supposed to do. I reviewed this a while back, actually. Also in 2001, Austin v Jericho from the Smackdown after Summerslam was terrific, with Jericho doing some nifty submission work on Austin's arm. The downfall is that it was all building to a Walls of Jericho (??), but the upside is that it's a very fun match. Jericho v Taijiri from the RAW after KOTR is fun a…

Jerry Lawler just said that RAW was the #1 cable program because of HHH. Fuck that. HHH "Dave is on borrowed time". Well, no shit Sherlock. Why can't the crowd just chant "Boring" at this pig fucker?

http://www.wwe.com/inside/news/20050411_rhynohardy.jsp So Lita and Edge cheat together...and they remain on TV. Hell, they're ACTIVELY on TV. Matt was the innocent victim and out on the shelf with an injury, and he's the one to get fired? This is odd.

The Rock v Triple H Iron Man from JD 2000 I watched this only last week, but almost nothing about it immediately springs to mind, it was so memorable(!). There was some leg work done by Rock on Triple H, that led to the figure four, with Triple H for some reason(!) being the one in the face spot of fighting to reverse the hold. Not long after that, he stopped selling the leg much, and so the leg work wound up meaning nothing. It was all reasonably executed stuff, but with a few blown spots, most notably when Rock tried his floatover DDT, and he slipped off, and had to quickly hit a normal DDT for a pinfall. Other than that, the only thing that stands out from this one…

  10. I'm a little dissapointed that Rhyno's been released because I was a fan of his. My favorite hardcore match in the WWE was his match with Raven in 2001 (IIRC) at a ppv. However he's never really been used to the best of his ability and I remember reading somewhere that Vince didn't like him. His temper tantrum was the last straw but hopefully he can get a good job in TNA or Japan.

I picked up for cheap a copy of WWE Insurrextion 2002. Nothing too notable about the card, except for the main event: Undertaker vs. HHH. This was the best match I had ever seen between these two, even better than their WrestleMania X-Seven encounter. Unlike the WM match, there was no lengthy ref bump to use as an excuse to brawl in the crowd, which was used to set up a cheap HHH highspot. Both guys were really game here, especially Undertaker, who was bumping like he was Jeff Hardy or someone like that. Early on in the match, he took a VERY NICE bump off of a HHH backdrop. HHH himself moved around a lot smoother than most of his matches at this time (this was, of course,…

Wrestlemania XV: Almost entirely forgettable. I vaguely remember the main event and Boss Man get lynched from the HIAC. Other than that, I can't remember a thing outside of the tag team battle royal that was one of the worst ideas for a match I've seen in Wrestlemania history. What sense does it make on the biggest show to have the tag team champs defend against two guys who are paired together because they won a battle royal? Wrestlemania 2000: I hate this show. I mean, I really hate it. Maybe it was because I sat through eight hours of Wrestlemania footage via the Wrestlemania All-Day-Long special that ran from noon until the beginning of the show. Or maybe it…

The best stuff in 2002 took place on TV more than on PPV, so this should be an easier year for those who were paying attention; however, the booking was so atrocious for most of the year in WWE that sometimes, it was hard to enjoy the forest because of the trees. My big pick would be Booker T & Goldust v Chris Jericho & Christian, RAW 12/23/02. The Smackdown Six stuff is what gets talked about the most, but this, I think, was better than anything to air on TV during the SD6 period. Nice setup with Jericho cornering Goldust backstage before the match and telling him that everyone knew he was the weak link of the team, that he was a total joke and was riding Boo…

Well, here we are now three days after Wrestlemania and I am still a bit dissappointed. Don't get me wrong now, there were a few awesome matches, but overall it was pretty weak. Eddie Guerrero .vs. Rey Mysterio. This match dragged on and on and on and on with little excitement. I thought that two talented workers such as this could put up a match of the year candidate but sadly I was mistaken. 2 out of 5 Money in the Bank Match Ok now this match was a bit better. I like Shelton alot more than I did before. He showed that he has balls! I mean the dive over the ropes and the clothesline off the tilted ladder were pretty damn impressive. I don't think Edge …

The title says it all. I can think of quite a few TV matches from this year that have already been forgotten that are fun matches, and I'll try to post them, but no one got involved in the 2004 one, so I'll let someone else make the first move.

I thought I'd make this a long project and do a post for every year if we can. Basically, if you saw a match in 2004 that you thought rocked and got little pimpage, talk about it here. This isn't where you mention Joe/Punk II or the WM three-way or anything like that, but rather matches that fell completely under the radar that you'd recommend checking out. Here are my choices. I wish I could provide some indy matches as well, but I haven't started on ROH just yet (will be in the next day or so), so my choices are going to be limited to WWE. 05/10/04 - Chris Jericho v Christian (Cage Match) This match had the benefit of a great storyline going into it, so the heat wa…

... just missed a great match between Chris Jericho, Christian and Shelton Benjamin that I'm tempted to call the WWE MOTY at this point. I actually think it was better than anything at WM. I wish I was taping this so I could watch it again and confirm that. Just some incredible high spots from all of them that made sense within the match, fantastic intensity and a nice match structure. Benjamin has truly had a phenomenal 24 hours. The time is now to shoot him to the moon.

Wrestlemania VIII: The first WM I ordered on PPV. I've watched the tape countless times since then. The tape looks like crap during several of the parts that I constantly watched and rewound (i.e. Shawn's entrance, since I was obsessed with them and his theme, but that's a different story). There are a lot of average matches here, but the Bret/Roddy match is a personal favorite; Savage and Flair is a nice, bloody match, which I thought would've worked even better as the blowoff for the feud, and the return of the Ultimate Warrior had me going nuts while watching this on PPV. The commentating is another bright spot for me; Heenan and Gorilla always knew when to kick it…

I've said it before, but this would make the 8th consecutive WM where they've had that scratch logo. The Attitude era is long over, and I think it's time to move on. Also, this set looks pretty much the exact same as the set has the past few years. WM X-7 looked amazing at the time, and I guess they thought so too, to a point where they've pretty much done the exact same look every year since. Eddy v Rey - I felt like this match ended abruptly. Everything that was here was really good, although I felt like it should have been better. Rey seemed to be having worlds of trouble keeping his mask on. People have complained about the match being too short, but I really don…
