Posted this at TSM, but it's what I've been watching, so..... Paul London Vs. Akio (PART IV!!!) - WWE Velocity - Saturday 12th February 2005 Dang, this rules every bit as much as their previous matches! It's sad that these guys go out their everyweek, kill themselves for OUR enjoyment, and yet, still, the company doesn't give a crap about them. There is an upside to this, however - not caring about them means that they don't get restricted to the usual WWE style. They can go out there, mess some shit up, pop the crowd, have a great match and go home happy. Well, WE go home happy, I doubt they do after the nutty bumps they take. They go at a slower pace than…

As you know, WWE has had a shortage of new stars over the last five years, which one could partially attribute to everyone who gets over having their legs cut out from under them, but the truth is that the system just isn't producing the amount of talent it should be. It's amazing to me that WWE has ONE training facility in OVW. They've talked about opening one more, but really, there should be training facilities all over the US. I do worry about wrestling's future in the US, if only because there are few guys today that made their name by starting out in territories and going to Japan and Mexico before coming to WWE and working their way to the top. I see the qual…

?Many are worried within WWE that there are not enough strong heels lined up to work programs with Batista in the future to make him a major superstar. After working with Triple H it is not known who would be next in line as a strong heel to work with Batista in order to really put him over to the next level.? This is Raw?s biggest problem. With their unbelievable constant pushing of Triple H, they have left virtually no room for any other wrestler to develop themselves as a legitimate big-name heel. Edge says he was screwed? That may be a storyline, but he damn sure bloody hell was screwed. Edge was pushed to the limits but as soon as the final step comes WWE stop h…

  4. This seemed like a natural next step. At first, I was just going to do a daily WOTD post, but the board is still growing, and I didn't want anyone thinking they couldn't put in their two cents on Sting because he was Wrestler Of The Yesterday or whatever. So, I thought I'd vary things up a little. We did "Who?" with Sting. Today, we'll do "What?". Tomorrow we'll do "Where?" Monday (I don't do windows or weekends), we'll do "When?" Tuesday, we'll do "Why?" Wednesday, we'll do "How?" Then, we'll repeat the process. So, the title of this one pretty much explains itself. What did you think of Vince Russo's booking? I personally think it was crap from start to finish and …

Tajiri Vs. Billy Kidman - WWE Tour Of Japan 2002 This is pretty decent, but also rather disappointing. There are a couple of nice exchanges, like a sweet little powerbomb reversal sequence, though that predictibly ends in a Kidman facebuster, and a nice chop-fest, but that's about it. Kidman varies his offense a little, which was nice to see, using an inverted DDT into a facebuster (something I don't think I've seen before), as well as a Kryptonite Krunch. The opening mat work is pretty OK as well, with Tajiri busting out a lot of funky leg locks which I've never seen him use. I didn't enjoy this as much as I should have due to my high expectations - it was liste…

Quick recap ? (recaps taken from Nik and JD Dunn @ 411 respectively) Here, we're taking what should be a long and interesting feud, and blowing it off within two weeks and with zero hype. This, to me, surmises one of the WWE's biggest problems with feud booking. Hint: I'd pay to see Orton and Christian in a match, as long as it was given time. In fact, I'd prefer that to an ad-break riddled affair for free. In this era of everything being blown by in a matter of weeks and then forgotten about, it'd be refreshing to have a mid-card feud given a decent amount of hype and promotion, made to seem important. The match got almost zero hype, aside fro…

I watched Bret vs. Austin from Survivor Series 96 and Bret/Owen vs. The Steiners from Wrestlefest 94 last night. Both of them are awesome, especially Bret/Austin. The Ausitn match is especially good in context with their next two PPV matches as they build in intensity as the feud goes on and Austin is given more and more offense. The SS match was great and had a clean finish that didn't blow off the feud. Had Austin won clean Bret would have been buried and had Bret made Austin tap to the Sharpshooter it would have hurt Austin. So they went with Bret pinnin Austin because he woudn't let go of the Cobra Clutch. This gave Bret the win he needed and gave Austin believa…

Mod's note -- If this topic makes no sense, it's because all the match reviews were pulled out afterward and posted in the match reviews folder that we didn't have at the time, but that we now have. Check it out, it'll make much more sense than this thread. -- Loss 05/02/05 Apologies for the lack of details on this, but I picked up SummerSlam 1999 on DVD at a local discount store (along with five others). Very mediocre PPV which was nearing the end of Vince Russo's time with the WWF. The main event was really nothing to write home about, a lot of the work was very pedestrian (not surprising since Benoit & Friends hadn't joined yet), and Jericho had an off-night on…

Slowly making my way through New Japan Classics: Hulk Hogan Special Vol. 1 that I d/l'd. I'll get to all these eventually. Part 1: Hulk Hogan/Paul Orndorff vs. Antonio Inoki/Riki Choshu - 2/3 Falls (11/6/80) I dug this match a lot. Hogan is really basic here, but it's fun to see him play THE MONSTER and have him trash talking Inoki ("THIS IS YOU INOKI!"... even if he is as stiff as a tissue. Lots of body slams from him and Choshu does most of the bumping. Hogan does a really neat spot where he slams Choshu into the turnbuckle, lays him on top, and Orndorff drives in some elbows to the ribs. Orndorff tags in, Hogan is pulls Choshu off of the turnbuckle, Orn…

This actually is old news, from before NMB's launch, but I thought it would be worthy of discussion: It almost seems too far out of reach, due to Vince's megalomania and/or senility (take your pick), but it would definitely make for an interesting show. Wild Pegasus and Lionheart on the undercard? Misawa taking on WWE guys (maybe Triple H)?

10/29/95 - Diamond Dallas Page v Johnny B. Badd (Halloween Havoc) 11/26/95 - Diamond Dallas Page v Johnny B. Badd (World War 3) 02/11/96 - Diamond Dallas Page v Johnny B. Badd (SuperBrawl) What an underpimped feud and an underpimped series of matches! Granted, these aren't hidden classics, but that's not really important -- what is important is that you can see both wrestlers improve with every match. Page was just coming into his own around this time. He won the TV title in September and the October match was his first major title defense. He also had a beautiful valet and had won $13 million in the lottery in an angle that was admittedly corny. The point was ma…

As much as I love Kenzo's goofy shiteating grin, I really hope they gave Cena-Suzuki a rest for the Japan show. Probably won't luck out though. Obviously looking forward to another Mysterio and Angle match. It's been refreshing how Rey's been pushed as of late, winning a few matches against Eddie Guerrero by outwitting him. There'd be more complaints about Eddie's losses though if it wasn't known he was caving under the main event pressure before, but neither man can complain much about anything right now and wouldn't anyway. The IWC does all the senseless complaining for them with full knowledge of being tuned out Anyway, I hope their being in Japan has the same…
