From the IWC board via DVDVR: What the fuck was a Carolina promoter doing in PA anyway? Dude better have booked a flight out of the country and/or never sets foot in PA again as I'm sure Afa will want to have a chat with this douchebag.

I was thumbing through an old WWF publication, Caged: Volume 1, the other day and near the end, they have some images of various cage matches. I noticed a few, but the others didn't. Just wondering if any of them made it to tape: - Paul Orndorff vs. Rick Rude (1988) - British Bulldogs vs. Islanders & Bobby Heenan (May 1988) - Ted Dibiase vs. Hercules (February 1988) - Sgt. Slaughter vs. Ultimate Warrior (1991) - Roddy Piper vs. Ric Flair (February 1992) The tag team match is the one that most intrigues me.

Could anyone who's seen Clash of Champions XVII recommened to me whether or not it's something to go after. I've heard great things about the tag title match, and I do love tag team wrestling. But the rest of the card sounds pretty bad. So in anyone's opinion. Is the tag title match good enough to warrant hunting down the show?

After hearing it on the radio, I Googled the lyrics to "Obsession", most famous to most of us as the theme to Saturday Night's Main Event back in the 80s. Considering what we've heard about Vince McMahon since then, I can guess what made him like the song:

    (1) Is there anything about modern day wrestling that you think is better than wrestling from 5, 10 or 15 years ago? If so, what is it? (2) If you think wrestling right now is missing something, what do you think it is?

So I got this buddy of mine to watch Kobashi/Hansen (I dunno the date, but the finish is three backdrop drivers) and he seems to be quite interested in Japanese wrestling now. However, my knowledge of the subject is somewhat limited, so I thought I'd ask you guys: What are normally considered the best matches of all time in Japan? I know that there's a lot of Misawa/Kawada/Kobashi/Taue combinations in there, but I'm awful for dates and that sort of thing, and I haven't seen most of those matches anyway. I don't need a perfect list or anything, just a couple of matches that people would mention as a potential "best match ever". Even a few NA ones would be good. …

From the daily WO update: OVW had some of the most exciting TV of any wrestling promotion, and now I guess no one outside of Kentucky will see it. I wonder if WWE was getting tired of hearing complaints that they were messing up everyone that got the call from OVW.

A.J. Styles vs. Samoa Joe (X-Title match, Turning Point) I loved the beginning and middle of the match, where AJ takes it to Joe with all he's got and Joe says "Nuh uh, that shit ain't gonna fly" and beats the hell out of him for 10 minutes. Great emotion from both guys, some STIFF fucking shots that I had to rewind and see again (AJ's dropkick early in the match, Joe's palm strikes and some of his kicks), and a slow but not TOO slow pace. However, I thought it seemed a little flaky with AJ's "Hulk Up" and fairly easily kicking out at one on pin attempts late in the match (I get the message behind it, but I didn't like the timing.) However, the finish of the match…

Have a question about wrestling? Ask it here to see if any of our resident experts know the answer. I'll go first: What was the deal with Tully Blanchard's failed drug test that caused him to leave the WWF? I've heard two versions: 1. He had actually failed a test months before, and the WWF was just holding on to it so they had a card to play if Tully balked at doing a job or whatever. 2. It was bullshit, and they just said he failed a drug test so WCW wouldn't hire him back. I heard somewhere that Arn believed this was the case since guys like Warrior and Hogan were running around doing their famous coked-out promos yet Tully of all people is the one …

I've been watching a lot of wrestling tonight, and something jumped out at me: When did the forearm shot replace the punch as the basic striking move for 90% of US wrestlers? I first noticed it in WWE women's matches, and it was fine there since A. They don't want to risk getting accidentally punched in the face and B. Most of them can't throw a convincing working punch to save their lives. When it becomes a staple in men's matches, it looks like the guy throwing the forearms is a pussy who's afraid to punch. It's fine if you throw a forearm to mix things up, but when it's all you do it looks weak IMO. What really puzzles me is WWE in particular has several g…

Interesting show, some of the key points: Triple H as a face has the potential to be not only a MUCH needed change, but the boost his stale character needs to revitalize RAW. Triple H in real life seems much closer to his DX-ish face personna than his Angry Heel one, and it's been long proven that guys tend to do way better when they're basically playing themselves on TV. His position with the company is stronger than titanium now with HHH Jr on the way, and it seems like he's finally allowing himself to relax a little. The fans have pretty much turned him face anyway in his feud with Cena, so they might as well go all the way with it. Looks like the payoff fo…

I was reading the DVDVR forums for, maybe the second time in my life because I wanted to check out the drama of Sek's continual suspension. That being said, I'm actually entertained by the Batista Vs. Styles thread. Granted the people don't go into great detail, for the most part, of why the voted the way they did and I'm still only on the first page, however thus far it's enjoyable. It did make me think though. What's Batista's best match? He had three matches with Hunter. He had a tag match with Orton & Flair against Rock & Foley. He had a couple matches with Jericho on Raw. A bad match with JBL. I just can't really think of anything that stood out. Off the…

  25. Well, the first part of the deathvalley project is over. I was one of the voters as I think most people already know here. It was a blast watching all of the matches and seeing what people thought of them. I think Deathvalley made a mistake by posting the WWF results "buried" away in a DVDVR review but anyway. I can't wait to watch the rest of the series and see some of the Lucha which is seemingly still being discovered as well as some territories I'm not too familiar with. The most interesting part of the results in my opinion was not really who won but what matches had diverse opinions on them. Now you can get diverse opinions all the time but everyone who got t…
