March 1979

  1. This was easily on of the better DVE matches I've seen. This is the DVE that was a blue chipper and future NWA champ. Of course he's working Gino so that couldn't hurt. In the 1st fall DVE's arm work is really good and focused. Gino was great at eating all of the arm. I loved the finish with David dropping 3 knees from the top onto Gino. The 2nd fall sees Gino go after David's arm with revenge spots. The 3rd falls finish was incredible. We see Tiger come out and throws ink in Gino's eyes for the pin. This was a tremendous match 3 3/4*

  2. NWA World Tag Team Champs Snuka & Orndorff face a TV challenge

  3. Fast forward to the 2:00 mark before the match begins

  4. WWF Heavyweight Champion Bob Backlund vs Greg Valentine - MSG 3/26/79 This is the rematch to their classic one hour draw. I have never seen this particular Backlund/Valentine encounter and of all the MSG matches I think this is the least. I really like the draw, 81 series and their 84 match is unhearalded I would say all those matches are at least ****1/2. This match plays on the draw by having no countout there must be a winner so part of the psychology is too tease that they are going to go long and this causes a looooooooooooooooong front facelock sequence where a fan audibly yells “Cmon somebody do something.” I love you, Bob and Greg, but I gotta agree. The ea…

  5. JIP into the 2nd round. This was one of those friendly WoS bouts where it's all holds and grappling and we get 6 rounds of tricked out matwork. For those of you who don't know, Ken Joyce was this british maestro who wrestled like a british Solar. He had all these awesome crazy holds. Also, Grey was the world champion of his weight class here, but taking on a larger man, which plays into the match. At one point, Joyce was whipping the smaller Grey across the ring like he weighted 20 points. Grey fought hard as he usually does and had some really impressive escapes where he contorted his body. Also, the match had one of the best surfboard spots I've ever seen. It was like s…
