We're not talking about a guy here who has a long career where he is looking really solid till the end. But rather a guy who has really great matches and MOTYCs in almost every year where he makes tape, up until the very end. The guys versatility is underrated. Sure he is a beast and that's his selling point, but especially during …

  7. I don't want to create controversy with this, but the nomination list and voting has been open for over a week so I think it would be a fun exercise to look at those who came up short and weren't nominated for whatever reason. When talking about this with my brother the other night the names we came up with were D-Lo Brown and Val Venis, but last night I noticed that Takako Inoue wasn't nominated which surprised me a bit. I also echo anarchistxxx's thoughts that it's kind of surprising, and maybe a hair disappointing, that Jack Evans wasn't put through. Who else missed the cut?

  8. Parv wraps up the GWE project with an essay on the process and his findings (complete with audio companion): http://placetobenation.com/greatest-wrestler-ever-project-postscript/

  9. hello everyone, this is something i've been thinking about recently... searching for the GWE project online mostly just turns up our own threads & podcasts. from what i can tell, there hasn't been much discussion of it among the wider internet, and what little i've seen is dismissive and rather confused about the overall singles list. i think part of the reason for this was the sheer amount of content that came out. i talked with someone on Twitter who found all the GWE podcasts unbearable and "masturbatory", saying that it was impossible to get into them when there were so many and it seemed like every one was as long as a Between the Sheets. this is someo…

  10. hi everyone, i recently got this silly idea in my head to comb over the rosters of wrestling video games and calculate the average GWE score of their rosters. here's what i've put into a Google doc that you can freely edit: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1h0mqkVWyPcE4MTQsksUFLL4K9iMfQZ2f3A0tXdtQdZY/edit?usp=sharing one thing to note is that for the AKI games, i counted all the fictional characters who are clearly meant to be specific IRL wrestlers. i didn't count Joe Bruiser in World Tour because he's Muhammad Ali. i tried not to count non-wrestlers period, which makes things real tricky for some of those late-90s games. i counted Bischoff & Russ…

  11. One thing I figured out about myself is that I value smarts over most skills in wrestling. The smarter the worker the higher the praise from me. The more stupid things a worker does, the more down I am on him. What did you learn about yourself during GWE?

  16. Hello, figured this thread should go up now that we've gotten down to the 25! not many big surprises thus far, but Demolition shocked me. even given all the love they've gotten on this board, i thought there was no way they break the 25. all of my predicted top 10 teams are still alive thus far...but so are the Hart Foundation/Bulldogs/Road Warriors. if more people cared as much about the tag ballot as the singles one, i imagine those would be the HHH/Sting/Rock of this list.

  21. Started by Matt D,

I'm pretty certain that these two will be my top two luchadores, and very likely both within my top five. I'm just not sure which of the two will rank higher. I just want to throw this out there now with a few comments, and I'll try to go more in depth later. Satanico is everything advertised. He's simply the best rudo of all time, quite possibly the best bad guy in the history of wrestling. He's able to portray the joy of evil through his mannerisms and expressions in a way that I've never seen from anyone else. There's almost nothing in lucha I love more than the way he directs traffic in a trios beatdown. He's a technical master, with matwork full of struggle a…

Let's put on our prediction hats and guess who the highest ranking guy on the 2026 list, not to make say the top 200 of this years. I could see one of your EVOLVE grappling dudes getting a big run in Japan or WWE and getting pretty high. Matt Riddle or Fred Yehi are both so good early in their careers give them 10 years they could be great. I could also see wider Houston footage getting Gino or Jose Lothario higher on the list, although I think they have a ceiling

I know the love/don't get/indifferent spectrum is wide for lucha, so I'm interested to know how many luchadores people are planning to rank? I've got Satanico, Dandy, Santito, Casas, Pirata, Sangre Chicana, Blue Panther, Fuerza, Negro Navarro and Villano III in my 100 right now. Atlantis is just outside. I'm still assessing what I want to do with Virus. And I'd like to rank Black Terry, but I'm honestly not sure how good he was outside his brilliant old man run of a few years ago. Guys who'd stand a great chance with more footage include La Fiera, Mocho Cota and Espanto Jr.

  25. Started by JRGoldman,

So throughout the process, Grimmas has stated he would be open to publishing results using different voting critera. I know a lot of people have come up with suggestions and interesting spins, but they are seemingly scattered throughout the different threads I thought it might be nice to have a centralized thread. My suggestion would be to see what the overall top 100 would look like if only votes for people's top 10 counted, like the actual Sight&Sound poll. I would also ask that Grimmas has already shot down any sort of "PWO Posters Only" list, so it's probably safe not to request something like that, considering that conversation has already happened and …
