Peak vs. longevity. Amount of great matches vs. great performances. Consistency vs. best stuff. How much does charisma play in. and so on... There are so many ways to think about the greatest wrestler ever. A lot of this is personal. How are people looking at this?

Verne Gagne, Buddy Rogers, Lou Thesz, Pat O'Connor, Gene Kiniski, Fritz Von Erich, Antonio Rocca, Rikidozan, Destroyer and others -- it seems like there's enough footage there to get a decent handle on them. If you are ranking them, who do you expect to make your list? If you aren't, is it just because you haven't seen stuff or because it's tough for you to watch footage that old? I don't think there's a right or wrong answer, but I'm curious. Some of those guys have plenty of footage in the 70s as well, but they seem to have more before that. One guy who specifically stands out like a sore thumb is Jim Londos. He was arguably a bigger star in his era than Hogan o…

Si is doing the lords work but he needs a hype man. SO YEAAAAAAAAAAAA BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOYYYYYYYY! GET READY FOR THE NEW PLAYLIST! You know those guys who make you go "Fuck, I wish we had more footage of those guys" well Si and I decided we tend to really like those guys and thought 24 straight hours of a few of them would be the most reasonable thing to do. So we've put together 24 hours of Wahoo McDaniel, Tommy Rich, Buzz Saywer, Mocho Cota, and Bobby MotherFucking Heenan for your viewing pleasure. We've got Heenan vs Midgets, Wahoo in cages, Buzz Sawyer crushing jobbers, Tommy Rich bleeding, and Mocho Cota existing in the world. We're starting at 9pm Easter…

I've seen a lot of people throw out different number 1s in the nomination subforum. Who do you have and why? It will be cool to look back at this thread when the project is done to see if our original number 1s change.

Everyone loves a great brawl. Who are some of the best you've ever seen and who are some of your favorites? What matches stand out? How will the guys primarily viewed as brawlers do on your final list?

On the last Pro-Wrestling Super Show and the upcoming Excite Series we talked greatest babyface ever. I like Rick Martel, but there are others like Ricky Steamboat, Tito Santana, Rey Mysterio and Kenta Kobashi who are right there too. Two questions, which is the best babyface of all-time and secondly where do they rank next to the other great babyfaces? Parv made the point that Martel might be the better babyface, but Steamboat will be ranked ahead of him. What do you folks think?

Tonight we're going to start our group viewing project, at 8 PM EST. We will be using http://taima.tv/r/PWOGroup a video synching service where you are able to make your own rooms. We will be viewing a set of 5 matches, and watching one in a day. We will be opening this project with a bang, as we will be watching two time NWA World Heavyweight Champion, Jack Brisco go up against Japanese legend, Jumbo Tsuruta, who is also a nominee to watch, as he placed #1 on the Smarkchoices 2006 poll. This match took place on January 30 1974, Brisco's set will begin today, and we will be using a list made by JerryvonKramer from the top 5 matches to watch list, however if you have sugg…

Well let's see, who would definitely be above Jumbo for the 70s? Let's take the NWA champs as a given, even if each case is debatable: Dory Funk Jr Jack Brisco Terry Funk Harley Race Let's also throw in as "gimmies": Giant Baba Billy Robinson The Destroyer That's 7. From World of Sport who is definitely better? Jim Breaks for certain. Who else? Who else from elsewhere? Bockwinkel? Stevens? Carpentier? Jumbo has a lot more complete matches on tape than most of these guys which helps him. But then again, he's having great matches with a lot of these guys so you can look at it both ways. Would be unfair to hold…

I was wondering if any of you would be interested in a group viewing of a nominees matches. Like we would have a block of five suggested matches of a certain wrestler, and then the next day or other day we could move onto another worker and watch five matches of there's. I know the perfect service for it, and I think group watching these matches would help people get through them, and give more of a sense of community? There is a service called Taima.Tv that would be perfect for this. And I'm wondering if there's enough interest where we could actually do it.

Let me hear some all time favorite matches or MOTYCs through the years where you don't think one or any participant will rank on your GWE ballot. Personally, I could very easily see myself putting together a hundred names that don't include Dibiase or Duggan despite loving their gimmick classic. Roman Reigns definitely won't be making my list even though I've got him vs. Brock as a top 2 MOTYC at this point. Will try to come up with some others but interested to see what others have. Maybe we won't find anything like Mo Williams or Corey Brewer dropping 50, but hopefully find a few classics from not quite HOFers here.

Curt Hennig – Feud with Bockwinkel and evolution into main eventer Nick Bockwinkel – Feuds with Curt Hennig & Larry Zbyszko Stan Hansen – Strong AWA run; epic series with Carlos Colon in Puerto Rico; Feud with Jumbo & Tenryu in All Japan Jumbo Tsuruta – Tag Team of the Year contender with Tenryu; Great singles matches Genichiro Tenryu – Tag Team of the Year contender with Jumbo; Great singles matches Tatsumi Fujinami Yoshiaki Fujiwara Akira Maeda - The MVPs of the NJ vs. UWF war. Jerry Lawler – Not as strong as 1985 but epic series against Bill & Buddy with a Loser Leaves Town to boot against Dundee. Has great feud with Bam Bam a…

NWA Ric Flair Ricky Steamboat Terry Funk - The highlights of 1989 NWA. I don't think it would be a stretch if you called any of these guys WOTY for the promotion. Funk had the great Flair feud but also the Steamer match and other TV matches. Flair had the feuds with Funk & Steamboat. Steamboat also had the Luger feud. Man, this was a three man power trip for the NWA All Japan Jumbo Tsuruta Genichiro Tenryu - I know 1989 was an awesome year for All Japan tag wrestling but it really is all about the two aces with a GMOAT contender to cap it off. Memphis - Lawler has his heel turn at the end of the year and good matches in Texas but a lack of foot…

MEMPHIS Jerry Lawler - Lawler is feuding with Hart & Kaufman for a large chunk of the year but it was an awesome feud with Hart bringing Stan Hansen for some memorable tags. He has the MOTYC with Dundee in June. He begins the feud with Savage later in the year with the cage match. On basis of limited footage, Lawler is good as anyone to carry the torch stateside. (Gotta give a shoutout to the Fabulous Ones-Moondogs feud that tore Memphis apart in 1983) PORTLAND Buddy Rose – Another notch in the belt for Buddy with a young Hennig, Strongbow and DK matches. Buddy gets the best out of everybody. NWA Harley Race – Has the big feud with Flair that produced grea…

Barry Windham – Barry’s peak year on tape. Big feud with Flair, tag team with Garvin. Maybe 1988 was Windham’s year but this is his peak as a face. Ron Garvin – Garvin feels like he should be honorably mentioned for 1985 and 1986 against the Horsemen but 1987 has the super feud with the Midnight Express and the title reign with AWESOME cage match bookends. Ric Flair – Windham… Garvin… Broken Back Curt Hennig- Hennig comes into his own as champ with memorable TV matches and Bock’s last hurrah. Genichiro Tenryu Jumbo Tsuruta Stan Hansen Yoshiaki Yatsu - Another ho hum year for the elite All Japan guys. Yatsu was amazing as tag team partne…

Jerry Lawler – Lawler has great matches across the territories with feuds against Curt Hennig and Kerry Von Erich as well as great matches against Tommy Rich & Dutch Mantel. Kerry Von Erich – Kerry pops back on the list thanks to the feud with Lawler spanning 3 territories but also for helping Texas to emerge as a place where quality wrestling takes place… with one foot. (I feel like I should mention Michael Hayes and Buddy Roberts for helping to reignite Texas and kicking off their awesome feud) Genichiro Tenryu Jumbo Tsuruta Stan Hansen (Kawada and Footloose pop up as Tenryu’s little buddies. This era of Kawada’s career is one of the reasons I pl…

So last night and this morning, I went through every nominee thread. I thought with less than a year to go, it might be helpful for people to see lists of where some of the nominees stand. I sorted people in to various lists: number one contenders, top ten, top 25, and top 50. I only sorted wrestlers that someone actually suggested a placement on. I always put them in a group that was the highest possibility suggested. I thought this might engender some controversy and thus people revisiting threads that have been dormant for a bit. I also did not compile a list for wrestlers that some said were in competition for the lower half, spots 80-100, or spot 100. I think Dylan a…

Dylan and I have been discussing this for a while and I feel it is time to see if there is interest out there. The last time there was a major, greatest wrestling of all time voting process was 2006. I love the Sight & Sound best movie ever model of voting every 10 years, so doing a new poll in 2016 seems like a great idea to me. Here is my thoughts on this and how it should go. This is just a thread to see if there is interest or to see if there are ideas out there to make this whole process better. 1) Ballot due the day of WrestleMania of 2016. 2) You can only vote for eligible wrestlers. A wrestler becomes eligible if there is a microscope thread for hi…
