December 1996

  1. Man I forgot how good this match was. DAMN. The first 30 seconds alone are utter brutality. This was a total shootstyle gangwar, which plays to their strengths. Lots of guys piling up and kicking and stomping the crap out of someone 2 on 1. If you know anything about BattlARTS or these guys you will know those kicks and stomps were no joke. Between the hitting and getting hit there were a bunch of fun, slick as ice mat scrambles. Hell, even Minoru Tanaka's shit looked good! Even Yone's shit looked good!! My only problem was the slight clipping, robbing us of 2 or 3 minutes of BattlARTS goodness. Still, the rest of this was great trademark BattlARTS violence & grapplin…

  2. Wrestling pirates invade BattlARTS! Yes Gulliver X and Gulliver XX are indeed wrestling pirates. They come in wearing bright neon outfits, hockey masks and carrying big goofy weapons. They have a manager with them who is dressed in hat, coat and eye patch. He also has a rifle that he likes to bash people with. I won't bore you with in-depth analysis of this spectacle so let me give you the highlights. Ishikawa goes all shoot matwork on the buccaneers asses! Sasuke busts out an insanely stiff spin kick & jumping headbutts! Pirates love announce table spots! Their manager loves to bear hug! Ishikawa literally kicks ass before stuffing the smaller pirates corpse unde…

  3. Double juice brawl with mask ripping. Some of this felt like typical joshi (lots of piledrivers and some slightly easy transitions) but the gritty fighting, brutal chairshots and some nice moments during the finishing run moved this into above average territory. There was a particularily nice dive from Cooga which felt out of a lucha bloodbath in terms of timing. Kimura was probably the most reliable worker in JD' and this was another good showing.

  4. WCW World Tag Team Champions The Outsiders vs Faces of Fear - WCW Starrcade 1996 I really enjoyed the opening portion of this match, which seems to be a trend on this PPV. The first 3/4 of each match have been really damn good, but the finish is either lukewarm or bad. I thought this was a great fight. Meng and Barbarian just go into full on asskicker mode. I thought they were going to try to position them as a the babyfaces, but with the Nashville crowd being solidly NWO country they wisely made the Outsiders the de facto babyfaces. Meng and Barbarian have never much for selling, but hitting big spots now that's their shit. Meng just absolutely lit up Scott Hall earl…

  5. Anti-climatic. Shawn Michaels does his sarcastic fuck you shit which is fun and fine. Bret deserves it because he is a sanctimonious hypocrite. All the Bret bullshit that Shawn is a nancy boy and poses in Playgirl is so lame. I wanted Shawn to kick Bret's teeth down his throat for going on and on. SID! YES! YES! YES! POWERBOMB THESE TWO CRYBABIES TO HELL!!! Sid is by far the coolest muthafucka on RAW. Austin is a dangerous, sadistic prick. I cant get behind that. Sid is cool. Sid/Taker/Vader brawl. Good to see Vader in the mix.
