I was just thinking of questions that we couldn't get definite answers to at the time for obvious reasons that maybe could be answered definitively now. Who was Willie the Worker? Dave talked at the time about some great ideas Bischoff had for revitalizing WCW, and when the company folded, he said he didn't want to share those ideas because he wanted someone to actually use them. What were the ideas? Who specifically was on "suicide watch" in 2006? I'm guessing Angle, but was that ever confirmed? Who was the wrestler Lex Luger refused to do a double juice cage match with unless the other guy got an AIDS test? Dave talks about someone's involvement…

    Started by Guest Kenta Batista,

I mentioned how TNA needs to do some spring cleaning of their roster and get rid of talent that is overpaid and brings NOTHING to the table. Now we can all throw on out smark hats and debate about the worth of guys like Nash,Steiner, Booker T, Lashley, and some others but one of the people that stands above them all is Jenna Morsca. She is the girl from Survivor and Dixie is a huge mark for the show. She is getting paid close to (if not) 500,000 dollars ( I think it might be more) for her services to TNA, however she has done NOTHING since her arrival and has added NOTHING to the show. Is Steiner,Nash, and Booker T overpaid? Its debatable, but those 3 have provided some g…

I thought this might make a good spin-off thread from the wrestling mythbusters thread and the KENTA vs. Nakajima thread over at the DVDVR board. So I'm kinda well established (I think) as a guy with a major narratology fixation. I'm interested in storytelling, how it works on a structural level, how we build on that bare-bones structure in various ways, and the narrative language we've developed over the three millennia (at least) that we've been doing this. Pro wrestling is no different from any other form of storytelling in this sense. I think there's a very bare-bones structure that works, and since Joe Acton and William Muldoon in the 1870's - if not before - we'…

  7. Wow. A lot to be shocked about here. One, that Hogan's promotion is finally happening. Two, that Flair is returning to the ring in such a manner. Three, that he's working for his good buddy Eric Bischoff. That divorce must have drained his bank account hard. I wonder now if this deal could potentially open the door for Flair to work for TNA. Flair says he wouldn't go due to loyalty to Vince, but he's locked down for three years and even if it's not an exclusive contract WWE won't want to work with him. If he'll work with Bischoff, you'd have to think he'd work with Russo.

I loved watching Ginger Lynn suck cock, get banged and take it up the ass in the 80s. I'm not entirely sure I want to watch a video of Ginger Lynn suck cock, get banged and take it up the ass when she's 60s years old. Point: I'm not pulling for Ric Flair to drop dead, nor Ginger Lynn. But I don't really care to see them perform so far past their prime that it's painful. I avoided using a sports analogy here since wrestling is entertainment and not sport. But if one wanted to make a sports analogy, as much as I loved Jabar as a basketbally player, I don't really want to see him matching up with Dwight Howard when Kareem is 60+. John

  9. Started by Loss,

So I was looking over the My 883 Favorite Matches thread, and while there are a lot of those matches I still love, some of them make me look back and wonder what I was thinking at the time I ranked them. I don't want to keep editing that thread, because I think it will still be interesting to look back at at some point, but I do feel the need to start over. Consider this thread the place for starting over. As matches are watched, I'll link to a review, and also keep an ongoing list just like before.

I participated in the Greatest Wrestler of All Time poll that was held at smarkschoice forum quite a while ago now (I think it was about two years ago?). And I know some of you guys participated in that poll as well. I remember Jumbo Tsuruta winning it. But has anything been saved from that poll? Any lists or posts?

  13. Started by Resident Evil,

Thoughts on Kobashi I don't know where I'm going with this at all but I felt it warrented a thread. Kenta Kobashi is back from cancer. I'm happy for him on two accounts. That he was able to get by the cancer and that he was able to wrestle again. In reality, he shouldn't be wrestling anymore because of injuries but it's obvious this is what makes him happy so I guess in reality he actually should be continuing to wrestle. That's quite a sentence. Everyone tearing up at the announce booth was a strong indication of how much this meant not only to them but to Kobashi as well. Kobashi looked pretty good in the ring. He didn't have much body fat at all and was …

  14. Eh, why not. Lou Thesz/Ric Flair Award (Wrestler of the Year) Pretty easily Cena and then Mistico right now. I don't think you can blame any of talent for the buyrates being down. There are too many and they're too expensive. Cena is delivering in-ring, on promos, and is drawing people to house shows. Mistico isn't as good in-ring, but he makes a scary difference in attendance. Most Outstanding Wrestler There's a really strong argument for Cena, but I don't see him garnering support from voters. If Matt Hardy stays on a tear for the next 6 months, he could get it. Maybe Nigel McGuinness, but ROH's buzz is decreasing. Best Box Office Draw Cena and Mist…

From WC (spyware alert)... No full ballot yet, but Rey Mysterio & The Rock are eligible this year. Hans Schmidt & Enrique Torres have been added to the ballot. Rey & Rock both seem like gimmes, though I'm curious if Rey is going to be considered an "American" or "Mexican" candidate (he should be the former for a number of reasons, IMO).
