WWF World Heavyweight Champion Bret Hart vs Fatu - WWF RAW 3/1/93 Fun trivia fact here: the first WWF Championship match on RAW. I would have expected Bret Hart to hold that honor given that timeframe, but would have never guessed the challenger. Bret defends against Yoko at WrestleMania and he takes on his shoot cousin here. They were not related kayfabe as Fatu does have "Samoa" on his tights and Yokozuna was billed from Japan. I do like this booking as a tune-up match as Fatu is a smaller version of Yokozuna so it gives you a nice preview of the WrestleMania IX main event without giving away the whole farm. Unfortunately, "Elvis" is on commentary for the match and…

This is wrestled in rounds, which is probably a good thing considering the pace these two unknown European dudes were working at. Sirra Fubicha may be of Georgian-descent but don't quote me on that. The first three rounds were awesome. In the first round, Fubicha is all about suplexing and trying to grab a limb, while Valvitov keeps trying for a shoot STF. Fubicha opens the second round by hitting a low-angle Olympic Slam and a deadlift uranage on Valvitov, then gets him in an ankle lock. Valvitov throws a couple of suplexes but he’s trying to get the STF locked in. He's more of the bruiser in this match, clubbing Fubicha down at one point with forearms. Fubicha gets a li…

This is basically an extended squash for Han to get his win back from the 7/92 upset but is still a very good match. Han is like a terminator here, just going after Kopylov with awesome submissions and great strikes. There is a spot where Han literally leaps on him. In the end, they tease the finish of the 7/92 match in a fantastic spot but this time the outcome is not the same. *** 3/4

Mr. Perfect vs Rick Martel - WWF RAW 3/8/93 I believe I only have two Lex Luger matches left that I want to get through before I complete his WWF run and up next is his WrestleMania IX match against Mr. Perfect. I watched the Royal Rumble debut of The Narcissist and I thought it was great. Heenan was a bit repetitive, but I agree with popular opinion this was a much better fit than Made In The USA. I like the tie-in of how Perfect turned babyface on Heenan and Flair and with Flair gone, this was Heenan's new & last hired gun. There is something about Luger and Heenan that just feels like such a good fit. I liked the first Luger squash I saw against Jason Knight o…

Jushin Liger & El Samurai vs Wild Pegasus & Dean Malenko - NJPW 3/9/93 This is clearly from NJPW, but it is presented by WSW with Craig DeGeorge & Sir Oliver Humeprdink on commentary and they are not that bad! They actually call the action pretty well. It seems like WSW just repackaged NJPW matches with English commentary for American consumption. Pretty ordinary matches from these four. I thought Liger/Benoit parts were clearly the best. Liger outsmarting Benoit with speed and then doing the Hogan ear cup and then Rude hip swivel was the definitely the only reason to go out of your way to watch. Sammy seemed to coast and Malenko besides busting out on…
