I've made brief mention on it here but one of my hobbies is writing to athletes and wrestlers through the mail and trying to get them to sign trading cards. I have a lot of fun with it and it's always fun to see what arrives back in the mail. I thought some of you would get a kick out of seeing some of the guys that I've successfully written to. I guess I'll go big for the first post with some of the names:

Don't know if anyone here listens to hip-hop, but GZA / Genius from the Wu-Tang Clan definitely used to watch 70s WWF. Here he is in Shadowboxin where we get the line: I slayed MC's back in the rec room era My style broke motherfuckin backs like Ken Patera Then years later on the song The plan was drawing blood and displayed it graphically Direct order, hit the border, then slaughter Horrific torture, by prolific authors Shape and mold MC's, like I'm playing the skelly top It's getting 'hot in here' like the single that Nelly dropped So take ya clothes off, the track is so soft A little vodka turn 'em into Ivan Koloff I always find it greatly…

Backstory: Comedy booker Steve Bix is my second cousin. My sister was Googling him to explain his existence to someone and found this old article: http://archives.citypaper.net/articles/200...-02/cover.shtml Basically he got into a feud with a guy named Steve Pickle and you could do a find and replace on this to turn it into an article about Philly indie promoters. Completely ridiculous and amazing.

Tonight's UFC card featured maybe the greatest finish in MMA history, as long-reigning and seemingly untouchable champion Anderson Silva was felled by unbeaten but unspectacular challenger Chris Weidman. Silva, who taunted and played rather than trying to win, pretended to be wobbled by a missed punch only to be caught on the chin and (as Meltzer wrote) "knocked the fuck out". The unusual nature of the fight has MMA website commenters foaming at the mouth claiming that Silva took a dive. Nobody can debunk this better than a wrestling fan. -The punch, the set-up, and the sell, are better than any two cooperating pro wrestlers could possibly hope to pull off in the…

Someone needs to have a thread on here about hyped-up boxing prospects who get exposed in amusing/entertaining/awesome fashion. Marcos Maidana deserves a gold medal for already having two of these epic moments in recent years, both of which produced "Fight of the Year Candidates". The first one was an epic, sprint of a war with Victor Ortiz, who Golden Boy Promotions was trying to push as their next big Mexican-American star. Max Kellerman before the fight wondered if what we were thinking/hearing/etc. of Ortiz was too good to be true. It was. Maidana and Ortiz forced brutal knockdowns on one another. But what everyone remembers, is what will follow Ortiz for the rest…

I'm just curious if anyone has seen a trend with Thanksgiving attendance in your households going down in recent years because your family members see it as the B-show and it's so close to Christmasmania anyway. Do out-of-town family members who you only see on major holidays boost attendance, or is it usually related more to the quality of the creative (e.g. available food and presents)?

Immediately one of my favorite MMA fights ever. Amazing birthday present. Catch the replay tomorrow night if you missed it. Words can't so it justice other than to say it was a draw and for the first time ever, a draw was absolutely, positively, the best possible result that everyone should be overjoyed for.

Post the YouTube videos here. Orange Jacket Guy vs Wal-Mart Shoppers in Handicap Match Wrestlemania-worthy entrance, with music included Battle Royal with a great post-match promo This is some of the most pathetic stuff I have ever seen. It seems to get worse every year. We Americans are disgusting sometimes. I feel for the employees who have to deal with this shit. People like to blame the people at the top for things like this - and they certainly do exploit low-income people with this garbage. But people who get out in this are soulless stupid fucks all the same.

James Bond James Bond's exact birthdate is clouded in mystery due to him seemingly never aging and his early history being deemed classified by the British government. Earliest date of birth goes back to November 11, 1920 or 1921 but exact day probably will never be known. Place of birth is also disputed with locations of Scotland, Switzerland and Germany being mentioned. James early life had him spending much of the time living abroad with his Scottish father, Andrew Bond and Swiss Mother, Monique Delacroix. Young Bond became fluent in German and French as his taste for travel would play a huge part in his future career. James would add more languages over the ye…

This barely qualifies to post at pwo, but since Hogan was on a cover and they did a few articles on wrestling over the years, what the hell: I'm wanting to unload my SI collection. All issues are boxed and bagged, and they're in great shape with a few exceptions. Most issues have mailing labels. The collection starts in the Fall of 1975 and is 95% complete all the way thru 2011. Olympics double issues along with most specials are included. 1,976 issues in total. I have surprisingly little capital invested in this set and will consider any offer. It's a full truck load of magazines so you'll have to meet me in a parking lot somewhere in the US to get them.

Sting: Lex, my friend, I need your counsel if you could You see, my friend, I have these boxes made of wood That when opened were meant to put me on my back And to that end contained Abby and Cactus Jack Luger: Sting, my dear, I don't think I can help The thing you fear you will find within yourself If your mind, you clear, the answer you will see Those boxes that were sent to you were sent to you by me Sting: How could you betray me so, I loved you so Luger: You had to go Sting: We said we'd always be friends, we made a pact Luger: If you think this is betrayal just wait until the second act

I'm cracking up that this second generation performer has gotten indie cred after being repackaged in a new gimmick and delivering one very good performance. Better booking than WWE's use of Joe Hennig.

This has come up a few times recently in my viewing. First when Monsoon and Ali faced off on that TNT, and then on the 1990 set when Buster Douglas was the special guest ref. The argument is always the same from the wrestling side: "if he can get in and hook him up, the boxer has no chance". So are they right? Does the wrestler always win? VS.
