Remember all those films with Arnie in them where he'd punch a guy in the face and deliver a cheesy one liner? I thought it would be fun to come up with convoluted scenarios within the world of wrestling for the delivery of these lines. Admittedly, this is 99% because I randomly came up with one while while making a cup of tea. Get ready for this people. Thought this was pretty interesting: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/23685153 We might think about it in a pro wrestling context too, especially when we think of Hogan and Cena, but I stuck it in Mostly because it says interesting things about quite a few sports. Any thoughts?

I've been slowly making some CHV covers and figured I'd share them here. I plan to do WM's thru 15, and probably some others if the mood strikes. Tried to match as closely as possible the CHV VHS cases that I remember renting as a kid, but some creative liberties were taken. If anyone wants these to print for themselves, I would be happy to email them (they are about 7mb apiece), throw them in with any trade or comp purchase, or upload them if you have a ftp.

OK, admit it. Who watched the first episode? I did, and the main takeaway for me was that Jane Geddes is basically a real-life Big Johnny.

Hi all, this is not really wrestling related, but my wife and I did Route 66 back in 2010 from Chicago to LA via all the ususal towns in between plus Vegas and ever since have wanted to do a second road trip in the States before we have kids and it's too late for such adventures. I am thinking of doing a loop road trip as follows, the idea is that we're stopping overnight in the major towns, driving about 3-4 hours between them each day: Atlanta Nashville Memphis New Orleans -- 2-3 days here, thinking on a scenic drive through Mississippi but skipping staying at any of the towns. The back through Alabama (not sure where to stay / what to see there), othe…

Scenario: It's 1983 and the NWA World Champ and Captain Redneck are sitting in some two-bit bar. After reminiscing briefly about all their great matches, they get into a ding-dong about who's the best drinker. So they line up the shots and start to go. Who falls first? Place your bets now.

So a week ago or so I read this list of different types of prostitutes in Weimar Berlin and it has made it almost impossible for me to watch pro-wrestling. To celebrate the return of Resident Evil I post the types of dominatrices here: http://www.cabinetmagazine.org/issues/32/gordon.php

The belief is that the UFC show tonight might have been CURSED. Let's review: - Ovince St. Preux "accidentally" poked Gian Villante in the eye, and Villante didn't realize you can't tell the ref you can't see if you want the fight to continue, so the fight was stopped and went to the scorecards, with OSP winning by TECHNICAL DECISION. - Rustam Khabilov beat Yancy Medeiros by TKO early in round 1 by suplexing him...onto his thumb, dislocating it. Medeiros decided to show it to the ref, so...yeah. - Pat Healy beat Jim Miller in what looked like a same character fight in Street Fighter. Then Bruce Buffer announced Miller as the winner. - As Kevin Mulaha…

Realistically, Zab Judah doesn't have much of a shot against Danny Garcia on Saturday night. Yet he's done an awesome job at getting people emotionally invested in the fight. Goes right after Oscar De La Hoya and Garcia's heel manager/father Angel. De La Hoya looks like a little kid that just got reprimanded and embarrassed in front of his friends. "You talk about hooks? I live in Vegas! The hometown of the hookers! I duck 'em and dodge 'em every day!" http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/31949835

I was hoping that maybe someone with some knowledge of math could help me. I've been working on a database in Microsoft Excel for years now of win/loss records for wrestlers in national promotions in the television era. I have spreadsheet tabs for each television show (as well as one for PPV) for WWF/E, JCP/WCW, ECW, TNA, RoH, and AWA. I also have a tab for all the tv/ppv matches combined for each promotion, and then one tab with all the promotions combined. It's a constant work in progress, and not every show is included yet, either because I haven't gotten to them, or because, in the case of some of the older WWF/JCP/WCW/AWA shows, there's no full listing of results onl…

This obviously is the type of stuff that comes up in all the Flair threads. I thought it worthwhile to think outside of the box, look at other forms of entertainment and see if it's not common elsewhere. Well of course it is. Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe books all follow similar structures, have loads of similar shtick, have regular characters who nearly always are "in character" rather than evolving or changing massively. This isn't uncommon for the genre of detective / PI books. Even ones that "evolve" over time like the 87th Precinct live in stories that typically have the same general structure. They get tossed into different adventures, some times they're thrown in…

No idea if this will take off but I've done this sort of thing on other forums in the past to some success -- if it goes well there could be future quizzes in which the champions could defend their titles. Format - Participants can take part solo or in teams of up to 3 people. Quiz is designed to spur conversation and consultation, which can take place over PMs or in this thread via spoiler tags. - Quiz is designed to be google-proof so it will be audio-visual only. Cheating of any kind is discouraged. - There will be 4 rounds, overall winner is team or individual with most points at the end. There will be a sub-winner declared just for the wrestling roun…

Got a major kick out of this : Palais de l'Elysée is the French equivalent to the White House. Nicolas Sarkozy is obviously the current president. François Hollande is the guy who will (hopefully) kick him out. El Flaco is a reference to the fact Hollande used to be fat and dropped a lot of weight the past year, and really looks different now and more "credible" as a presidential candidate in his current shape. There were other posters with minor candidates too. Great stuff.

http://deadspin.com/5976517/manti-teos-dea...eason-is-a-hoax As usual, sports does "reality" (or in this case "fake reality") better than it's scripted brother ever can. Too bad Russo isn't running something major so we could watch his shitty attempt to play off this. John

So does BBC airing a tribute show to Jimmy Savile, knowing that he molested and raped so many children for decades, trump WWE airing a Chris Benoit tribute show? As far as "pro wrestlers that have done horrifying things" go, Savile might be number one in that category. EDIT: Jimmy Savile 'engineered' his TV show to abuse children. That's so fucked up.

So it's being reported now that Ronda Rousey is joining the UFC by multiple sources, here's one. Also in that report is that Strikeforce is closing shop in January, after their final event in January. The good is that Gilbert Melendez will finally fight better competition, but if Nate Diaz wins the title in December, he'll never fight for the UFC lightweight title if it's against Nate. Maybe Gilbert will drop down to 145 lbs (he's fought at 145 lbs many, many years ago) to face Jose Aldo. This effectively makes Bellator the number 2 promotion, it will be interesting to see how well they do when they make their move to Spike TV in January. Another interesting rumor is…

So Jose Aldo got his foot injured via motorcycle accident, and had to pull out of his title fight with Frankie Edgar. The best they could come up with was Silva to fight Bonnar?!?! The reaction online is already strongly negative and Dana's going to go insane trying to justify such a one sided fight. Nothing against Bonnar, he uses "exactamundo" in a non-ironic and genuine way, also he's done better since losing to old man Coleman, but this is really terrible match making. I like Snowden's take. Snowden (evilclown): Even the UFC commentator for Mexico, Mario Davila, who did play by play for the last few years is putting it down.

So Rogan's either conning his fans (since he's financially involved with the ridiculously named Alpha Brain) or he's incredibly naive (which is possible given his personality). I don't listen/watch his podcast since it seems pretty awful but I hear he is constantly pushing the product. Read the first post of this thread. Joe Rogan Alpha Brain Here's another link that discusses "deceptive marketing practice by the supplement industry" and uses Alpha Brain as an example of that. Science-Based Medicine - Alpha Brain

So as you may or may not know, the surviving Beach Boys reunited for their 50th anniversary, recording a new album and going on tour for the first time in many years. Normally, there are three separate touring acts: - Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, and a backing band as The Beach Boys, since Mike is the one who licenses the name. AKA the shitty tour that mostly does really insipid versions of the early stuff. And "Kokomo." Though in fairness they've started to do their own takes on the Brian stuff that, going by the YouTube videos I've seen, are much better than you'd expect. - Brian Wilson with The Wondermints as his backing band, who did the Smile album (well, th…

Why can't WWE book Brock Lesnar like the state constitution voting is being booked? They are doing a great job of building heat on the heels by building the undefeated streak to add amendments to multiple state constitutions. National polls have acted as great teased comebacks, to show that the babyface isn't quite out of the fight. Eventually, this feud will be settled at the judicial Wrestlemania known as the Supreme Court, but even there, there has still been a significant amount of doubt over the outcome. Dan Savage as the edgy babyface has worked really well, and Tony Perkins and NOM have been on fire as heels. Even CM Punk was caught participating in the angle. This…
