So the NFL has booked themselves a rematch at Superbowlmania that not a lot of people saw coming even a few weeks ago, although the signs were there in hindsight if you look at it. Eli suddenly getting more help at the right time to build up the team after his individually strong season, and the story all year of "Is Brady so good that, as much as we hate him, he may be impossible to stop". It seems like they figured out that Rodgers and the Packers on the whole have gotten big enough that jobbing them out does no real harm, and instead they are feeding us a Brady/Eli REMATCH. This caught a lot of fans off guard but it seems to be a surprise that's working for them. I'm s…

Madonna was born on August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, a Detroit suburb. She is one of many famous pro wrestlers from the Detroit area, as the Steiner Brothers, Rob Van Dam and Kevin Nash are just a few of the other big names that grew up near the city. And much like the name of the local territory, you might say she always set her sights on the Big Time. It is even rumored that her 1990s obsession with bondage was inspired by the name of one of the biggest stars in the Detroit territory, Dick the Bruiser. Madonna is one of the most famous pro wrestlers in history, and one of the biggest draws as well. Her reputation has always been that when working with a great …

Dana changes the welterweight title match "If this reads like Cowboy Bill Watts in 1985, it's because it was exactly like it." We're going to get months of this shit. John

http://www.avclub.com/articles/nbc-yanks-d...r-factor,68517/ This doesn't exactly reflect well on him or UFC. Worse on the producers and NBC but still, yikes.

It's the day UFC finally come out of the closet and admitted that they're "professional wrestling" without mentioning that dirty phrase! UFC Wants To Express Itself In New York The complaint itself. Some amusing excerpts: There's much more hilarity to be found in points 111 through 158. I think MMA should be sanctioned in New York as much as any other fan of combat entertainment and sports, but this complaint is really hilarious.

My mom and I were catching up on TUF while I've been down there the last two weekends (my dad had hip replacement)... so we finally got around to starting Season 11. The Kyle Noke vs Warren Thompson "fight in" match was a monsterous juice job. Boring ass fight, they saved the juice for fairly late... but my lord did Thompson hit a whopper: That doesn't even do justice to it. The way the episode was cut doesn't as well, as they didn't show the whole thing (have to cram a lot of fights into first episode). But the whole thing was on the DVD, alsong with the other fight in matches. Beyond Hase-Muta... that puppy was Mass Transit level. Not as all as comp…

When Smoking Joe died, Bruce posted a link on the Torch Board to Foreman knocking out Frazier and Cosell's famous call. A posted mentioned how Frazier stayed over despite the ass kicking, which I had to explain was due to the intricate booking... Good booking. 03/08/71 WT: Frazier over Ali Ali "makes" Fraizer by jobbing to him in their first match. 01/22/73 WT: Foreman over Frazier Since Fraizer isn't a good enough draw on his own away from Ali, they decide to create "The New Sonny Liston", a monster heel perfect for Ali's babyface turn. 03/31/73 NABF: Norton over Ali As part of his babyface turn, Ali "makes" a new star by putting Norton ove…

I thought it might be amusing to kick around some ideas to analyze as wrestling. The title's kind of a joke, but John's certainly a genius at this game. I'll start: 1980's G.I. Joe cartoons

I was watching the VMAs on Sunday (don't judge me) and came to the conclusion that pop music has now morphed into the WWF. Almost every performer and presenter that showed his or her face at the VMAs had some sort of gimmick. Most wore crazy outfits, cut over the top interviews, and acted like a baffoon. Almost every performance was light on actual musical talent, but high on dancing, flying around and other activities that required a physical skill. And did anyone else see how Lady Gaga refused to leave the stage while Brittney Spears accepted her lifetime achievement award? If that's not the perfect setup to a wrestling angle, I don't know what is. I lost inte…

Coz starts out goofing around, but Sandman gets a turn and shows him up. Coz really does better than one would expect from an Ace vs Comedy Guy match. Both of them really turn it on given their age; I can only think of this being like a hypothetical Fujiwara vs Eigen or Arakawa match if it was done in the 2000s. Sandman decides to go to his gimmick and forces Coz to use a chair because Coz is clearly out of gas. Finally Coz gets saved by a run-in. Million billion stars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaBTaok3qG0

Inspired by the following post: Abraham Lincoln's NWA title loss. He couldn't balance his political career with the demand for more and more defenses in the exspanding American territories so they worked out an elaborate plan to have him drop the strap via screw job so he could still keep his heat. Little known fact, a young Gypsy Joe who was only 20 years into the business at that point worked as the ref. Lincoln became a huge draw at the presidential level after the Southern states turned heel and kick-started the most over feud in the history of the promotion. The Confederacy had nuclear heat, especially after Lincoln cut a five-star promo at Gettysburg. The…

This is from August 1989, it's from an event called Caliente y Picante: A Latin Session. It was recorded at the Biltmore Bowl in Los Angeles, and it's a pretty great line up of great talents. I'm going to talk about one of the performances that caught my eye. This is some pretty great selling from Tito Puente. He introduces his young cousin, Millie Puente (aka Millie P). Throughout the performance, he is constantly going through a barrage of facial expressions, selling for Millie. She's obviously a talented musician, but Tito does a great job at putting her performance over. Some of the facial expressions he goes through convey him struggling to keep up with her, com…

(WARNING: Spoilers for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 be here! And probably for every other HP book/film in passing.) Well, Deathly Hallows Part 2 is in the books, and while the Harry Potter vs Lord Voldemort showdown featured something of a Dusty finish - seriously, has anyone worked out the exact lineage of the Elder Wand title? As best as I can tell, the Snape win over Dumbledore has been ejected from the record books - the big story of this epic PPV was the super-push of perennial lower midcarder Neville Longbottom. While in prior shows, Big Nev has held something of a lovable loser role, even jobbing to Harry himself in a throwaway bout prior to …

The hype has begun for the 2012 Royal Rumble! Just this week, Newt Gingrich threw his hat in. He is attempting to present himself as a babyface, but fans remember the angle where he joined Callista more than he'd like. Santorum is just there to improve the workrate, and it's clear the GOP wants to push Mitt Romney as the top star. But I'm not sure why Romney is waiting so long to make his entrance official. Meanwhile, Sarah Palin may set out to become the first intergender champion, although she's making so much money working indies that it may not be worth her time. Not to mention that during her time in the indies, she really hasn't improved her skills that much. …

Dunno why it took me so many months to come across this but Nick Coffin at Cracked wrote a tremendous article in September about the mess and what the truth is when the situation is examined a little closer. Some of it was obvious it the time, but it makes the pro-Epic Beard Man contingent look even worse than before.

Charlie Sheen is now doing Brian Pillman's 1996 gimmick in the media to great success. I also love that he's one of the few modern wrestlers who emphasizes the importance of winning. What other pro wrestling concepts has Charlie Sheen applied in the past few weeks, when he has become the hottest star in the business, and perhaps its greatest worker?
