It's the day UFC finally come out of the closet and admitted that they're "professional wrestling" without mentioning that dirty phrase! UFC Wants To Express Itself In New York The complaint itself. My mom and I were catching up on TUF while I've been down there the last two weekends (my dad had hip replacement)... so we finally got around to starting Season 11. I was watching the VMAs on Sunday (don't judge me) and came to the conclusion that pop music has now morphed into the WWF. Almost every performer and presenter that showed his or her face at the VMAs had some sort of gimmick. Most wore crazy outfits, cut over the top interviews, and acted like a baffoon. Coz starts out goofing around, but Sandman gets a turn and shows him up. Coz really does better than one would expect from an Ace vs Comedy Guy match. Both of them really turn it on given their age; I can only think of this being like a hypothetical Fujiwara vs Eigen or Arakawa match if it was done in the 2000s. This is from August 1989, it's from an event called Caliente y Picante: A Latin Session. It was recorded at the Biltmore Bowl in Los Angeles, and it's a pretty great line up of great talents. I'm going to talk about one of the performances that caught my eye. This is some pretty great selling from Tito Puente. He introduces his young cousin, Millie Puente (aka Millie P). The hype has begun for the 2012 Royal Rumble! Just this week, Newt Gingrich threw his hat in. He is attempting to present himself as a babyface, but fans remember the angle where he joined Callista more than he'd like. Santorum is just there to improve the workrate, and it's clear the GOP wants to push Mitt Romney as the top star. But I'm not sure why Romney is waiting so long to make his entrance official. Dunno why it took me so many months to come across this but Nick Coffin at Cracked wrote a tremendous article in September about the mess and what the truth is when the situation is examined a little closer. Some of it was obvious it the time, but it makes the pro-Epic Beard Man contingent look even worse than before.

Charlie Sheen is now doing Brian Pillman's 1996 gimmick in the media to great success. I also love that he's one of the few modern wrestlers who emphasizes the importance of winning. What other pro wrestling concepts has Charlie Sheen applied in the past few weeks, when he has become the hottest star in the business, and perhaps its greatest worker?
