This hits all the high points of a Muto match and it's a ten minute, high-effort sprint, so no meandering bullshit from him. ***1/2

WWF World Tag Team Champions Owen Hart & Yokozuna vs 1-2-3 Kid & Bob Holly - WWF RAW 4/17/95 Set up last week by Holly pinning Owen in a 6-man tag. Good first title defense for Owen & Yoko against the plucky, underdog tag team champions. Really enjoyed the opening matwork by Owen & Kid. I would say the best opening matwork I gave seen in any WWF 93-95 match. It felt like NWA Championship wrestling. I thought Kid landing on his feet after monkey flip at the end of the really well done chain wrestling was a really good punctuation mark. Also liked Kid drop kicking Owen after double Kip ups but Owen was caught celebrating. Owen/Holly also had some r…

What I love about Kakihara is how spastic and scrappy he is, completing whiffing on his spinning heel kicks, landing about 68% of his strikes, falling all over himself trying to grab a leg or an arm. Sano’s similar to that effect, especially in this match, as he aimlessly rolls around the mat, not quite sure which way he wants to go. I loved the struggle Kakihara conveys when he tries locking on the armbar, with Sano looking the most “in danger” he looks the entire match. Typically, a Kakihara match starts and ends the same way. Here, he trades strikes with Sano, until Sano dominates him down the home stretch, hitting suplexes, knees, and kicks, overwhelming Kaki until he…

This is from the first round of the U.S. title tournament. I didn't think much of most of the action here, but they won me over by the end. Sting did a lot of punch-kickery but he also targeted Arn's leg, which paid off in a big way later. Arn had some great counters here--a spinebuster out of nowhere, the "wind up a punch and DDT the guy when he ducks" spot that I love so dearly, and catching Sting with a back elbow when he attempted one too many Stinger splashes. Hot closing stretch in general, leading to a clean submission victory thanks to Sting's earlier work on the leg.
