WWF Intercontinental Champion Shawn Michaels vs Jerry Lawler - WWF RAW 8/14/95 The main event of the penultimate RAW before the Monday Night Wars begin. Shawn Michaels the Main Eventer is fully crafted before our eyes. The Jeff Jarrett IYH 2 match is the birthplace in my opinion (perhaps it is on a RAW against King Kong Bundy or IRS when Michaels return from the Sid attack/betrayal, but I have no desire to watch those matches). The Kip Up is here, Top Rope Elbow Drop and it is called Sweet Chin Music and all the fanfare around is there. If you compare this to the Bulldog match in March of 1995 (5 months earlier), Michaels is still a heel and he has Sid as his bodygua…

1995 is sort of a lost year for CMLL. I could probably count on one hand the amount of 1995 CMLL matches I've seen, I don't recall even reading about anything from that year, and it's not like anybody's jumping to take deep dive on it. I'm not saying I'm going to be the guy to do that, but if this was anything to go by then there might be a few things worth unearthing. El Dandy and Ray Gonzalez are clearly feuding at this point, though going by Dandy's apuestas record this didn't lead to a hair match. Which is sort of astounding because they sure fought like an apuestas match wasn't far away. They bleed truly gruesome amounts of blood. Dandy was cut open about a minute in…

This was pretty much a BattlARTS style match. Saito represents karate but he is a pretty versatile worker, he can do stuff on the mat and he hits a huge suplex on Ishikawa. This was mostly Ishikawa outclassing his opponent on the mat and getting brutalized in return which is a match formula that works perfectly fine. And this was a nice showing from Saito too who was pretty underutilized in the 90s, he could've made a great addition to the BattlARTS roster or secondary guy in some big WAR/NJ tags.

"Shoot. It's a shoot. These guys are shooting. A shoot, bro. If you think for one second that this is some sort of work, you’re out of your mind. TOTAL SHOOT" GAHD. STOP. The announcing probably soured me on this far more than the work deserved but it was nauseating at times to hear that term used so liberally. Honestly, it isn't something that makes you actually think something isn't going to plan, in wrestling it has the complete inverse effect. When Goto got busted open and went to bottle Dan I thought things were legit going south. They brawled into the crowd and roughed each other up like they were actually in the King of the Deathmatch tourney itself. I started …

This is the Bathhouse Deathmatch. They put a wrestling mat into a bathhouse and tag partners have to stay in hot tubs until tagged in. The concepts sounds flat, but they actually manage to keep this entertaining the whole way through a combination of wrestling and surreality. Goto and Yamada start out with a bunch of fast mat exchanges, with Goto busting out Fujiwara armbars and Magistral Cradles and whatnot. In order to win you have to pin the opponent and then drown him in a nearby tub for 5 seconds. Lots of running around the bathhouse ensues, in the process of which lots of naked japanese women and men are scattering about the place looking for cover. I wonder if …
