Negro Casas vs. La Fiera (1/10/93) We appear to lose sound at the start of this. Comes back. This is a very enjoyable match that is sufficiently brutal and well worked to leave me really satisfied. Has none of the Lucha bugbears that I've criticised in the past. Strikes are all very crisp. The throws and bombs were cool. The juice job by Casas after the first fall looked *real*, as in hardway. Fiera was impressive here. Seemed impassioned, and like he wanted to inflict pain. Casas looked tremendous. I thought his bumping and selling were both really good and I dug the hell out of his kicks and offense when he was on top. Good stuff, not blowaway, or goin…

Hope its alright that I start a new topic being a new guy. There is no Ogawa thread on this board and he's one of my personal favorites. He was involved in probably my favorite fued in NJPW with Hashimoto. He had a handful of random awesome matches with different people in the early to mid 2000s in NJPW, Zero 1 and Hustle. He was a legit shooter. A legit badass in an age when MMA was becoming a thing and legit tough guys in puroresu were scarce. His heel work against Hashimoto, Misawa, Kawada, etc is awesome. He just had that presence. He had an ear for the crowd. Also his gaga/ crowd work was outstanding. He oozed charisma. Just imagine how big he would have been had h…

holy shit I forgot how awful he was at this point, not only did he look like a slightly bigger Richard Simmons with baby smooth legs his in ring work was embarrassing at best The match against Bad news brown at SS 88 is one of the worst matches Ive ever seen just a horrible match from two wrestlers who earlier in their careers had been decent workers how do you get to suck that bad? was there any match from this era that was watchable? I know him and Bravo were involved in a feud but Im not sure the roided up talent free Bravo carried him to anything decent No power at that point either

  4. Since someone mentioned The Warlord in the Zeamen thread, here goes... Influence: Was Batista's favorite wrestler. Batista is a former World Champion. The Warlord indirectly influenced a future WrestleMania main eventer. If we were talking about Bruno Sammartino, Terry Funk, or some other "favorite," everyone would be praising them for being influential. So, why not Warlord? He deserves his piece of the pie too! Character: Memorable physical specimen. Cool as hell ring gear. Rocked that paint on his face like few others before him. Sweet ass action figure. Underrated Speaker: No one rates him in this dept., so he's underrated. Seriously though, while he wa…

which of these squash matches do you enjoy more? I have to admit Warrior no selling the pedigree and pinning HHH with one foot on the chest was an incredible burial but as a kid watching that cocky wimp get dismantled in 30 seconds was pretty epic what are your memories of these matches?

  6. What is the best brawl in American pro wrestling history? I think Tully/Magnum will win and I don't even know if I disagree with that assessment. I just don't think it is an open and shut case. Surrounding angle: I think Tully/Magnum gets definitively crushed here in my opinion. Duggan and DiBiase started their feud in 1983 breaking up the Rat Pack and DiBiase joining Skandor's army. They already had badass brawls leading up to this one. DiBiase had lost a loser leaves town match in 83 and when he came back in late 84 it was one of the best angles I have ever seen. DiBiase having laid out Duggan in the parking lot like a coward, we see an extremely bloody Hacksaw cut o…

From 1984 to 1987 UWF (Watts, not Hamada) produced some awesome episodes, matches and angles. So we're taking a break from our usual geographical randomness and time-traveling in the gwe marathon and bringing laser-like focus (cough, cough) to some of the most entertaining tv ever made. We'll be reviewing, chatting, re-capping, live-blogging and flogging for the next 24 hours and posting it all here, so please, put on your sailor suit and come by to add your thoughts, writing and general palaver. taima.tv/r/gwemarathon.

Were they the megapowers of Jobbers? they teamed together 10 times and though not going over in any of those matches they carried the likes of the Young Stallions and The Rockers to decent matches. I havent found any footage of their falling out but legend has it that the subsequent blow off match was a 60 minute time limit draw with no man being able to pin the other. Some have called that match the greatest dark match of all time Could they have taken the Conquistadors? Horowitz has the scalps of Lanny Poffo, Owen Hart, sir Mo, Skip, Hakushi Lombardi beat Joey Abs, The Goodfather, Funaki, Lanny poffo, Paul roma any memories of this underpushed duo?

  9. Started by Matt D,

We have 5-6 Kellett matches online. I'm bringing back the train of thought reviews for them. Couple of notes: 1.) He was a real character, apparently, not a nice person, not someone people liked to work with. Tough to a fault. There are a lot of stories out there online. 2.) OJ said previously that if you saw one of his matches, you sort of saw them all. I'm 3 or 4 in and I haven't quite felt that to be true 3.) You should watch the match before reading my review as I'm going to give away all the punch lines, but there's so much to the act and to the comedy that it felt warranted to go into such detail and sort of comment on each and every bit. 4.) While I've wat…

GOAT note: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/28836-timothy-thatcher Reviews from the GOAT Nomination Thread: Biff Busick vs. Timothy Thatcher - Beyond Wrestling 4/13 Well, this was a match. Let me talk about a few things. It was my first time seeing either guy. I actually know nothing about them. I like Thatcher. I think there can be a mentality of deepening vs widening and he seems like a wrestler not afraid to go deep. He didn't do a lot of wide varied stuff. There was the matwork, the armwork, and the strikes, but he went pretty deep into each category. I'm not even sure I'd differentiate the matwork and the armwork because he honed in…

Let's have a discussion about these two gimmick matches and what you prefer. I'll accept any cage variation, i.e. War Games, Elimination Chamber, Hell in the Cell and any ladder match variation, i.e. TLC, etc. Which do you prefer? Which do you think has more variation? Which has played host to better matches?

given the quality of both guys and the heat they generated feuding why did their matches stink out the joint? can anyone point me to a decent match between the two?

  13. Started by ohtani's jacket,

I got a batch of new Jim Breaks I haven't seen before, much of it original broadcast stuff, so I thought I'd jot down my thoughts here. Jim Breaks vs. Steve Grey (4/24/79, JIP Rd 7) This was a tournament final for the vacant British Welterweight crown that aired on Cup Final Day 1979. About 17 minutes aired, so we got to see around half the match. The usual Breaks/Grey dynamic was on show here with Grey reacting aggressively to Break's punches by using the open hand to strike his nose. Breaks appeared to bleed hardway, but as usual the World of Sport camera guy avoided a close-up and instead Walton tried to sell that the smear of blood you get from a bloodied nose…

I was sure there was a Butch Reed thread, but I can't find it. If there is one, apologies. Anyway, you can discuss Reed generally here. But it only just occurred to me: whatever happened to him after WCW? How come Reed never got another big run anywhere? USWA in 92. Then ... nothing in 93? Then ... Global in 94? Then, that's it? Really? What happened to him?

  15. Recommendations (updated 05/22/15) MVC vs. Mitsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW, 7/10/90) MVC vs. Joel Deaton/Billy Black (AJPW, 10/13/91) MVC vs. Mitsuharu Misawa/Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW, 12/6/91) MVC vs. Ricky Steamboat/Nikita Koloff (Great American Bash, 7/12/92) MVC vs. Steiners (WCW Worldwide, 9/16/92) Seems like a team that could definitely be among the All-Time Top 25, but I want to rewatch their stuff to see if it holds up and what their best matches were. MVC vs. Tiger Mask II/Shinichi Nakano (AJPW, 3/31/90) Looks to be their earliest readily available pairing online. Not sure if their Bunkhouse match from the Bash ’87 tour against Eddie Gilbert/Murdoch…

I know that Fritz Von Erich is a guy with a terrible reputation outside the ring, but I've never heard much of an opinion given of his work inside the ring. I watched some of his work in Japan a year or so back, and I was really pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed his matches with Baba and Jumbo. He just seemed like a big nasty bastard, who was happy to bust people open, take cheapshots and knows he's got one special weapon (the Claw) that is really easy to apply, and will just try and wear guys down with it. The only match of his I've seen in the US is the retirement match against Bundy, which I also enjoyed, and just wondered what the consensus on him is as a wor…

I am asking this because eventually we are going to have to make hard choices in our rankings. I figured I would start with two West Texas boys who will do well in the final ranking. Stan or Terry?

Parv mentioned in a recent podcast that Dandy didn't have the immediate impact for him that a guy like Jim Breaks did. I have a vested interest in this since Breaks and Dandy are two of my all-time favourite guys and both had a huge impact on me the first time I saw them. But I wonder who impressed others more. If you've never seen them before, try for yourself. Here's Breaks in one of Parv's favourite matches of his: And here is Dandy vs. Satanico from 1990:

  20. Started by Ricky Jackson,

Two men once locked in perpetual combat, careers and lives intertwined, but mostly forgotten in the modern age. They were professional wrestlers, in the classic sense of two men in trunks pretending to fight. They were successful in what they did. They drew money. One was popular, the other was hated. They wrestled decade after decade, starting when Elvis became popular, TV was new and the NWA was supreme, ending when Michael Jackson became king, computers had entered homes, and Kayfabe and the NWA were crumbling. By the end they were the subject of ridicule, lowly "jobbers" losing every match they wrestled. But who were they? They wrestled each other perhaps as many …

Dylan has been pimping Rave as a WOTYC for 2015. From what I've seen of him he's been good. I trust Dylan's opinion so I need to look at Rave more closely. Jimmy Rave vs Kyle Matthews 1/29/15 We see both guys targeting the arm early. I'm beginning to like Rave's posing clothesline. Their is some clipping. What a dump, and what a bunch of shitty fans. Some little kid is throwing TP at the wrestlers. It's amazing, with their hard work they've got this crowd. 3 1/2*
