I took out a data disc full of Sabu matches. So I started watching them and they are awesome. I decided at my blog http://drvictatorpresents.blogspot.com/ to write about one Sabu match a day. Sabu a Day:Day 1 vs Abyss some time in 2004. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6yrm7LBVXVY...player_embedded First day is a Sabu vs Abyss falls count anywhere match from 2004. This match is from one of the old weekly TNA PPV shows. This was a part of the build up to the first match with Raven. Not sure why Abyss is involved. I'm not a big fan of Abyss for whatever reason, he and Sabu have great chemistry. I have never seen them have anything less than a good match. They ha…

Koshinaka is a guy I've gotten into quite a bit since starting on the yearbooks. Considering he has a pretty good body of work and some longevity, what is it that keeps him from being talked about at the same level as the Three Musketeers? Also, didn't he train under Baba? Is there a reason he jumped to New Japan?

Just watched Brad and the Bulllet's shoot interview and couldn't believe what good people they are. Always hear good things about the majority of the Armstrong clan, so it was nice to see them come off as so humble and genuine in their shoot. Brad's a wrestler I've always enjoyed alot. Such a shame that he never really got any break of substance (or was saddled with this like "The Candy-Man"), as he was rarely in a bad match. I understand the "he was bland" argument, but his in ring work was so good that it never really mattered to me (I'm watched a ton of Mike Rotunda matches these days that I can also say the same about). I was surprised to hear how often Bra…

Not sure how much footage of his is out there, but everything I used to see on Pro Wrestling This Week (when they'd talk Continental) and all the Mr. Olympia stuff is fucking money. I know Arn Anderson credits him bigtime for his own improvement in the ring back in the day.... is there a Stubbs comp out there anywhere? When I was a kid reading the Apter mags, I always marked for reading about two teams... Robert Fuller and Jimmy Golden and Jerry Stubbs and Tony Anthony. Any Stubbs/Anthony stuff out there? Surely it had to have ruled, right? Also, I saw KrizZ reviewed a Stubbs vs. MIKE JACKSON match! Any idea on if they had more than one match? As it seems …

In the spirit of Loss's changes I didn't want to just stick this in the "comments that don't warrant a thread" thread. WWE on demand has debut matches as a theme this month, one of which is Goldust's PPV debut vs Marty Jannetty. Watching it made me realize just how underrated Dustin is since by all rights there's no way the Goldust gimmick should have been anything but Wrestlecrap at its finest. The fact that it not only wasn't, but was still viable in 2010, makes it even more apparent.

So I thought since Shawn's career appears to be over (yes, there is probably better than 50% chance that he'll return at some point), this appears to be a good time to reflect on his place in history. He's been discussed ad nauseum, so we may not tread new ground here, but sometimes hindsight provides a different point of view. I will say that for all the talk of his weaknesses, some of it coming from me at times, I do think most would agree that the overall whole exceeded the sum of the parts. I mean that as a compliment, because in spite of whatever flaws he has had, he was able to have a long, productive career with some great matches which I guess have spann…

One of the awesomest wrestlers ever. I have to go now but I'll post my thoughts later.

Between what I've seen of his work from watching AWA on ESPN Classic, and a pair of AWA Title matches with Jumbo, I'm curious what the consensus is of Nick Bockwinkel. Aside from the Hennig matches from '87, I've never really heard much pimping of his work. I've always been on the impression he was just another past-his-prime guy that Verne pushed in the mid 80's because he was out of touch, but after seeing a pair of fun matches with Boris Zukhov and Colonel DeBeers, I'm starting to re-think that notion.

I've been watching Will's Jericho comp, and I have to say that watching a "Best of" set for Jericho makes him look really great. I know "best of" can skew things, but Jericho looks just as good as a Barry Windham type after watching a collection of his best matches. I think the knock on Jericho has always been that he can be inconsistent, but I hope people can agree that he is a guy who when he is completely on is really great. The 2001-2003 heel run honestly looks pretty spectacular, which surprised me, I think because guys like Benoit, Guerrero, and Angle were the ones getting the majority of praise at the time (and I personally don't think Angle has ever been in J…

I feel like we should have a Buddy Rose thread in light of him passing away. I haven't seen nearly as much of him as I would like, although I have tons of stuff, and in the future, will use this thread to drop comments on his matches. But I'm sure others may have things to say now.

Between the below recap and the WOL appearance last week, we should probably start something, as it appears we may be hearing from him for a while. From Lords of Paste:

http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/8643/ Not exactly a shock. I hate to speculate on cause of death, but keep in mind that this is the guy so who was juiced up even TNA had to get rid of him because it made them look bad.

Dave pimped him pretty hard in the latest Observer, noting that Cena believes little Dibiase is a future Wrestlemania headliner. I've enjoyed what I've seen of his tag team with Rhodes but haven't been blown away by his work. Wondered what others think of him so far?

Growing up in Canada my only exposure to the NWA was through various wrestling mags but outside of the Road Warriors the team that captured my interest was the Midnight Express. Something about Bobby Eaton was cool to me but I wasn't impressed with Dennis Condrey's look. Later when Condrey left and Stan Lane joined the team I thought this combo looks much better and I thought it was cool that here's this guy I know from being in another tag team, The Fabulous Ones, joining the MX with Eaton. Later on when I finally got to watch some NWA/WCW I was happy to find that the MX were indeed a great team. I also got to watch Dennis Condrey teaming with Randy Rose as the Orig…

Bruiser Brody v Giant Baba (4/16/82), All Japan Pro Wrestling Nothing that's going to set the world alight, but I dug this. I especially liked how they would use a slow build - perhaps too slow at points - and incorporate the standard shoulder block to get the point across that they were on the same level in this particular match. This leading to Brody pretty much saying "Fuck it" and drilling Baba in the head with a boot as opposed to continuing a shoulder block war was pretty awesome. Like I said, nothing amazing, but it's definitely passable. *** Bruiser Brody & Stan Hansen v Giant Baba & Jumbo Tsuruta (4/20/82), All Japan Pro Wrestling Building …

After watching some of his stuff in the WWF in 1980, he really was a top notch hell at the time. He might make for a good comp. I'm wondering what's out there of him. Couple of posts on his WWF stuff. No complete as I have looked at all the yearly stuff on Graham's site for 1984-85 and 1987-88. But it hits the bigger house shows (MSG, Philly, Boston) and Prime Time. It might be interesting to point KHawk in here for AWA recommendations. There is some New Japan stuff, which I'll have to dig through. He worked in STL and Mid Atlantic. John

I always thought it was a bit strange that during the Legend ceremony at Night of Legends Doug Furnas got honored. He'd only had seven or so years under his belt at the time. I've only ever heard of couple of his matches pimped (the usual suspects), but they were all tags w/ Kroffat. I remember him having a fun match with Lafon during the '95 Carnival. I've seen a bit of his work in Continental in '88, and vaguely recall him from WCW in '90. Did he have a very notable career? Or was it just case of him being a sort of hometown boy in Knoxville?

What other Bob Roop do I need to see? So one of the big discoveries from watching all this Mid South has been Bob roop. I have seen him before in multiperson matches in JCP but really hadn’t seen a lot of his stuff before watching the Mid South DVDs and now want to get it all. So I’ve now seen his Mid-south stuff, Georgia match against Lawler, and NJ match against Inoki (with Boris Malenko ringside). What else do I need to see?

Don't ask me why, but it is now in my head that I must find all the footage I can of Don Diamond. Doing research online has yielded very little on where he worked (Florida in 79 & 80, then back again in 82, and Mid-South in 84). Off the top of everyone's head, do you remember anywhere else he showed up?
