This come from Cornette's website and is an absolute must-read. Just a phenomenally excellent commentary on booking and writing in wrestling and how the current approach just doesn't work. I'm sure this will generate some nice discussion here. http://www.jimcornette.com/Commentary.html

  5. http://www.cagesideseats.com/2009/10/14/10...odcast-10-14-09 I'm joined by Rob Naylor and Colt Cabana as we discuss midget wrestling throughout history. Lots of fun stuff including whether or not it's okay to find midgets adorable, Cabana on his love of using comedy spots borrowed from midgets, Little Beaver's appearance in Meatballs III, Billy Barty and Lou Albano in Bodyslam, a green Cabana missing his shot at being (a) Doink, Ninja Turtles, Roger Ebert's dirty mind, and much more. An action packed 80 minutes!

Are there any regular podcasts out there that focus on 80s and 90s era wrestling that are worth subscribing to? I did a few searches, but it was difficult to filter through all the podcasts that pop up when you search for wrestling.

I realize that everyone says this about every interview, but you guys should really check this out. There is some very surprising info here, especially about his DGUSA tenure. Here it is!

  8. Loser Leaves Town Podcast 9/21/09 - Live at Lucha Va Voom w/ T.J. Perkins and Cassandro! Recorded last night at Lucha Va Voom's successful New York debut, it's the Loser Leaves Town Podcast. First I'm joined by T.J. Perkins (AKA Pinoy Boy/Puma/Cobra II, currently El Bombero in Lucha Va Voom) to discuss his travels around the world as a 25 year-old who's a 10 year veteran. Lots of great stuff about going to New Japan and the LA Dojo including wrestling in the Tokyo Dome, the MMA training that led to him actually having fights, becoming Cobra II while being tempted with promises of maybe eventually being Tiger Mask V, and much more. After that is Cassandro, the…

  9. A couple weeks ago, I decided that a fun topic for history pieces on Cageside Seats would be startup promotions. I started with the WXO because well, it's the easiest. I decided to do the GWF next, but I realized that it's a much less complete story without discussing the end of World Class and the early USWA, so I decided to do a [much longer] piece about that first. Please let me know what you think and which promotion you'd like to see next after Global.

  10. http://www.cagesideseats.com/2009/8/28/100...podcast-8-28-09 Rob Naylor finally rejoins me as we get back into the groove with the first Loser Leaves Town Podcast to be part of Cageside Seats (which is my main outlet now, but this site is staying put to make things easier for iTunes users and the like), part of the SB Nation network of blogs. In the sequel to our popular Pacific Islanders show, we discuss the many Russians throughout the years in pro wrestling on top of our favorite memories of IWA Mid-South. Learn which Russians were real (not a lot...at all), listen to us debate the merits of Nikolai Volkoff, be amazed at the match we suggested to IWA that they di…

  11. Apologies for the short "review" but I’m extremely tired and I’m just about to head out for the weekend. But I’ve just got it and going by first impressions this probably one of the most amazing Wrestling books ever published. The classic photographs are worth the price alone. A real treasure. Anyone here farther along into it than I am? Thoughts please.

  13. Just thought I would let you guys know that the long awaited new book about Gary Harts life in wrestling will soon be available. Check out www.playboygaryhart.com for info. While not yet ready for purchase you can check out the chapter headlines and the index. It looks quite immpressive coming in at over 400 pages. It looks fantastic. Gary Hart was one of my favorite people ever in the wrestling buisness and I feel he had one of the best wrestling minds. One of the most underrated talkers on the mic ever. Just check out Bixs incredible 3 discs comp of the career of Gary Hart. Its one of my fav comps. The banter between Hart and Piper in Ga is hilarious. Anyway check it ou…

There are qualms here and there, like it only focuses on people who actually worked for the (W)WWF/E. And you have to put up with WWE speak (Superstars, sports-entertainment, etc.) But I was surprised, it's otherwise pretty thorough for the most part, even including supposed "bridge burners" and people who moved on to TNA and the like. And they too get fair entries. There is even one entry that I know a lot of us were sure WOULDN'T happen. My jaw dropped when I saw it. Could the healing process be beginning?

  15. http://davidbix.com/?p=25 Rob Naylor co-hosts a Thanksgiving weekend spectacular where we interview one of of the World Tag Team Champions, former World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk! A great show (with them carrying me at times) where Punk discusses his past as an independent wrestler, his matches with John Morrison, burying the hatchet with Teddy Hart, having a bunch of merchandise, and much more, including a hilarious Tony Garea story that includes a fine vocal impersonation. Plus, Punk hands the phone to his good friend François Kevorkian (who may or may not be the same one who mixed for Depeche Mode) for a fascinating and enlightening discussion. Almost 80 minutes…

  17. http://www.loserleavestown.net/?p=24 After a fricking year, the show is back in style as Rob Naylor joins me to discuss wrestlers from Samoa and other Pacific Islands for over TWO HOURS! Yes. Consider it two shows or something. Naylor thought two hours or less would be too short for a topic like this. The usual fun with Naylor includes the two of us doing a reading of a legendary Jimmy Snuka promo, why Tama was so awesome, Samoan farmers, and the usual tangents that stray far from the topic. Plus, a brief special bonus where my upstairs neighbors make lots of noise and people yell at them (really)! A good show full of wacky Naylor fun.

  19. Started by Dylan Waco,

I'm about a hundred pages in and so far what really stands out is how unique Jericho was as a guy trying to work a fresh style, in an enviornment that wwas extremely backwoods (Western Canada), in an industry that was in the middle of totally restruturing itself as a business run by monolothic entities, instead of local bosses. So far it reads very similar to a Foley book, though I haven't even gotten to the first Japan tour yet. Worth noting that Benoit is the first wrestler thanked in the book, and it is dedicated to Eddy Guerrero

So I purchased the Lourdes Grobet book off Amazon a few weeks ago (and my used copy came stamped "BROOKLYN PUBLIC LIBRARY" so maybe I bought it from Shad and JTG?) and I thought I'd share some of the more awesome images: Blue Demon showing how lucha can take something as ridiculous as a grown man wearing a suit and wrestling mask and make it into something awesome. He's stylin' and profilin' despite looking like he's at the Sears Portrait Studio. Moments after this photo was taken, challenges were made for the first ever Mascara contra Mascara Tuxedo match. Silver mask, pimp suit, Asian women giving you their titties to hold. This is wh…

Anyone else pick up this book? Tim Hornbaker did an excellent job, producing a well-researched book on wrestling. I'm about halfway through and loving it. My only issue is that it becomes hard to follow all the names at points. Still, it's a great book for anyone interested in wrestling history.

http://www.davidbix.com/ I’m joined by Dave Walsh, Steven Louis Lerner, and Andrew J. Wallace as we discuss the wrestling business driving people insane/insane people going into the wrestling business, why you should all watch AAA, Marvin the Baby, Japanese wrestling in 2007 and its western fans, the how the WON awards are shaping up, Edge being awesome, Batista’s turtleneck, and more. An hour and forty-four minutes(!) of exciting wrestling chat. Much better than last time as there’s a format and good discussion and everything.
