1958-1959

  1. Bobby is around 22 years in the biz and Poffo is around 10. Managoff doesn't show much- he offense is basically a hammerlock with some basics. Angelo had some Macho Man mannerisms, which at least rewarded my watching: besides the side-profile and facial expressions, he had a robe, colorful (kinda sexy) tights, put his arm up signaling false victory, made the X to cover his head, kinda had a similar side-headlock, and stepped out of the ropes to hide. The commentator said he was universally disliked. This match teased going into second gear but eventually went back to headlocks, hammerlocks, and toe locks. It meandered to a disappointing draw. Angelo outshin…

  2. Jersey Joe Walcott is the special referee so expect some punches from him. We only miss most of the early shine by the babyfaces. The Kangaroos work face in this match. This is a really modern tag match. We have all the troops of a classic southern tag : the shine, the cheating, the heel miscommunication, the cut offs, some double tag moves and a great clever finish. The 4 men are veterans and work well together : the Millers are the jocks that need to cheat against smaller opponents. 15/20. Talk about it here.

  3. After watching this match, I love the Grahams. They cheat at every opportunity and cause constant chaos. Thought Eddie came off in particular as a good worker. Match always seemed like it was on the verge of ending in disqualification, and was very fast paced. Ending was crazy with the Grahams taking apart the turnbuckle and choking Martinez with the rope. I would really suggest people go out of their way to watch this.

  4. I believe this is the correct date for this footage, but I am not 100% certain. Talk about it here

  5. "Here is an infamous match from Pedro Martinez's Buffalo territory. Buffalo legend Ilio DiPaolo takes on one of the most famous wrestlers of all time, Gorgeous George. The rumor is that the match is very short because George showed up drunk and Martinez told DiPaolo to end the match right away."

  6. 1 Fall match going about 15 minutes. Humez is one of the great French boxers. OJ theorized that this may be his debut match, and it had the feel of a debut match. It felt like French pro wrestling, but there was no overlay elaborate stuff. Feels weird to see a middle aged guy with bald spots working a rookie match. Instead the match just turns into this nasty fight with Humez reacting to Debusne's shenanigans by tagging him and Debusne trying to gouge Humez eyes. It wasn‘t a Roger Delaporte level eye gouging, but it served to get Humez sufficiently fired up. Debusne ends up busted open and Humez takes him to the pay window. Humez has these cool left-right european uppercu…

  7. 2/3 Falls match going roughly 30 minutes. Karl von Chenok was another Hungarian wrestler, although he was billed as „the German strangler“ here. His son, Jörg Chenok, was a decent middleweight working the German scene in the 1980s and early 90s and appeared on British TV at least one time. As far as evil fake-German guys with strangler gimmicks go, von Chenok sure was no Dr. Adolf Kaiser, as he reeeally liked the nerve hold, but he looked a decent grappler and his european uppercuts sure were stiff as hell. Tarres was a Spanish worker with the legend saying he had metal plates implanted in his head, giving him the nickname „Iron Head“. His headbutts in this were tremendou…
