September 2010

  1. This is one of the silliest matches I've ever seen. Match opens with a lockup and they exchange holds. Nothing particularly meaningful but it's ok. Hardy takes Angle down hard and goes to the top rope, but Angle is up lightning quick and jumps up top and belly to belly suplexes Hardy off the top rope. I remember him defeating Rikishi to win the King of the Ring finals with that move! Two count. Surprised to see that so early in the match. Hardy gets up. Hits Angle with a Twist of Fate. 2 count. Angle then dodges a swanton bomb to hit Jeff with the Angle slam. 2 count. Angle pulls down the straps and puts Jeff in the ankle lock but Jeff escapes only for Angle to hi…

  2. TNA World Tag Team Champions Motor City Machine Guns vs Generation Me - No Surrender 2010 I quite liked this. It was actually pretty damn good traditional tag before breaking down into a spotfest. The Young Bucks went by Max & Jeremy Buck of Generation Me, but I am going to call them Matt & Nick Jackson because I have no clue which one is Max and which one is Jeremy. At the time, the Young Bucks were still babyfaces. The opening shine was great. Shelley was on fire with the chain wrestling busting out the Rocking Horse was quite the treat. I thought Sabin & Matt had a good babyface stalemate. Loved the old school armwork at the beginning by the Young B…

  3. Really liked this. Compact, physical sprint that makes you wish they could have had an extended match. I mean, Cena breaking out headscissors and slaps? Corner beatdowns with a hint of nastiness behind them? Come on now. Cena really is a great base for high flyers. Maybe not at Cesaro's level, but you've got stuff like this and that MOTYC against Mysterio in 2011 that shows that this is usually a winning combination. This did a good job reminding you that Cena's top dog while making Gabriel look like more of a threat and also continuing the Nexus program.

  5. Miz has a come a long way since this match. He puts one of the worst looking Figure 4s before bailing out of the match and having his NXT rookie Alex Riley take his place. Even Miz's acting skills were average here. Riley puts on the Stretch Muffler on Bryan before it's quickly reversed into the LeBell lock and that's that. ★½

  7. These two had been feuding through the last half of 2009 so I wanted to see them go all out and...well, they kinda get there by the end of it. After a little comedic exchanges, Sasaki starts targeting the leg and countering a lot of Sawa’s offense with leglocks and kneebars. Really cool work from Sasaki but the end is where the violence definitely escalates, as they start slapping each other and than straight up punching each other in the head, with Sasaki busting Sawa open with a shot. Sawa’s kicks are nasty toward the end and he's able to cinch in the grounded octopus for the win.

  8. Bryan's final match for DGUSA and it plays to the strongest facets of his indie and WWE run. For the indie side, you get the hot opening babyface shine with Bryan easily cycling through his signature hooked arms finishing sequence of the Cattle Mutilation/elbows combo. But when Moxley is able to take things to the outside and bust open Dragon, things become far more equal. Bryan plays a great selling babyface for Moxley and Moxley does a good job upping the character work and focusing on the brawling to maintain the advantage. When Bryan gets going as a fierce babyface though, there's really no stopping him. My favorite moment might be when he's hyping up on the mat befor…

  11. "Your balls are big again" "Youre a family man, I love that for you." Punching yourself until you bleed. Ric Flair unleashed in TNA is still one of the greatest things people dont talk about enough. Mick Foley is trying to keep this car on track, but you can tell he knows he is watching pro wrestling gold and is just letting Flair go. I remember watching this at college on my TV where the TV Stand was a cardboard box and I was in shock at just how amazing, organic, intense, psychotic this promo was. This is pro wrestling. Flair and Foley each show the best aspects of pro wrestling. Foley is always brains, weaving this coherent, intricate story together while Flair is all …
