  2. Barbarian already doing KOTM spots. This is a battle of former partners. Jake after the leg. Some brawling outside. Barbarian getting the heat. Crowd is rallying behind Jake. Barbarian working a bear hug. Big kneelift from Jake gives him some seperation. Crowd is 100% behind Jake's comeback.Jake Hits the DDT and Humongous attacks and Jake is busted open. All 3 putting the beatdown on Jake. This adds heat to the Jake/Humongous feud.

  3. I went to this show as a kid with my brother. This is a cage match. I believe originally it Duggan vs Kamala with if Duggan wins he gets 5 minutes with Akbar. As a kid, my brother and I wanted Duggan to get that no good Akbar. I'm sure my brother and I called him much worse in real time. Bottom line this was worked spot on and super heated. Duggan took most of the match. Skandar used a foreign object to gain an advantage. Duggan gets it and uses his finisher on Akbar. Stuff like this I miss in my wrestling.

  4. I've always loved the Lord Humongous gimmick. Falk is a seasoned pro who you like in an underneath position on your card. Still I think Gary Hart or Skandar Akbar would be a better fit than Humperdink. This was a short effective squash to get Humongous over. This worked.

  7. This is a pole match with a bull rope on top. I was here live as a 13 year old kid. Fantastics were always over big in H-Town. You even see a glimpse of me when the Fantastics are getting their love from the ladies. Dundee is known as one of the great pole workers of all time because of his circus background. The crowd goes nuts every time the Fantastics go after the pole. Heels getting heat on them early. Crowd is hot as hell for this . Dundee playing dead in the ring is great.Their are a lot of great near getting the whip spots. The fantastic's comeback was awesome. The cutoffs on the pole have been great. Fulton gets the hot tag after . He gets cut off, but gets the ta…

  8. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair vs Magnum TA - AWA Superclash 9/28/85 The definitive Flair/Magnum match actually comes in the AWA as Flair goes on tour, but instead of facing the local hero he brings along the Carolina's hero. I am glad this exists because there is a really good TV match between the two, but due to the injury there was never a long house show match between the two that made the tape. As much as I like Flair (which is a lot) and I have thought about his character and working style a lot, I am not sure when the Flair formula match was developed, refined and applied. Around this time, Flair was working with Nikita Koloff, which leads me to …

  9. WWF World Heavyweight Champion Hulk Hogan vs Randy Savage - WWF, Philly 9/28/85 The most noteworthy thing about this match is just how much hair each man had at this point. Kidding, so this is the first match between arguably the most famous names in pro wrestling history and the most famous feud in pro wrestling history. Having recently watched the Memphis set, you could just feel how big of a star Savage was. It translated instantaneously to the big lights of the WWF. He skyrocketed up the card from the summer of 85 to facing Hogan in September. I have always admired Savage for portraying probably the most despicable and ugliest traits of a human. The way he wa…

  10. Roddy Piper & Bob Orton vs Paul Orndorff & Bruno Sammartino - WWF Philly 9/28/85 KAL RUDMAN BAR THE DOOR! THERE IS A PIER-SIX BRAWL A BREWIN~! Wow! This was raucous mayhem. It is no surprise after watching this why ECW took off in Philly. These fans were lapping up this brawling with a spoon. All that was missing was the blood and I got to imagine they were saving that for next month. Dont know too much of the story, I know this was after Mania I when Mr. Wonderful had turned babyface and he was clearly outgunned 2-on-1 against Piper & Orton. So he got some back-up in the form of the Living Legend, Bruno Sammartino. This is an out-and-out brawl. It is bas…

  11. AWA World Heavyweight Champion Rick Martel vs Jumbo Tsuruta - AWA 9/29/85 "ABA - Erm AWA - ABA was something else at some other time" - Rodger Kent? (Maybe Trongard), I lol'd BOMBS AWAY! Wow! Do these two cut one helluva pace! Neither man backs down and this is a fight from the opening bell to the final three count. This match would not feel out of place in today's wrestling scene in fact I say they blow most matches out of the water. There are a ton of highspots and MOVEZ~! in this match, but everything feels important because it bearing on the next spot. The most critical element is it feels like two guys who are willing to do whatever it …
