  1. I really liked the bounty match. Flair has put a bounty on Reed and Slater is trying to collect. My father, myself and brother went to this show. One of the 2 times my father attended a wrestling show. My brother and I were so angry that Flair put a bounty on Butch. It opens with a quick intense brawl. Then it settles down and Slater starts to go after Reeds neck. Reed has a neck brace on so that's a no brainer. I loved how Slater would cut off Reed's comebacks. Slater going back to the leg makes sense since he's trying to soften up Reed for Flair. Though when Reed made his comeback it was intense. Reed bloodys up Slater. Reed is just going after the cut. The crowd was p…

  2. NWA World Heavyweight Champion Ric Flair vs Jake Roberts - Mid-South 11/24/85 Jake the Snake is another substitute for Butch after he was injured by a bounty put on his head by Flair. I think it was Dicky Slater and Buzz Sawyer that collected the bounty. The beginning of the match is the perfect blend of Flair and Roberts psychology. Flair is using his jack psych out tactics mocking Roberts gangly frame, which results in a shoving match and then BANG! DDT! But one problem the bell has not sounded. Flair sells and sells then flees to the back. The ref forces him back and Roberts is over huge. Jake the Snake really gets the DDT chants going. Flair the master of the …

  3. Terry Funk vs Mr. Wrestling II - WWF, MSG 11/25/85 There are two thing I love in professional wrestling and that is a damn good knee lift and a booty-shakin' babyface. Needless to say, I love this match and I love Mr. Wrestling II. Terry Funk gave even more of this match to Mr. Wrestling II. He was working like Randy Savage circa 1997, which one my all-time favorite heel acts. He expanded his terrorization of ringsiders from just Mel Phillips (who Jimmy Hart TACKLED!) TO Howard Finkel and a hapless photographer. When he tried to bully the ref, he shoved back to a huge pop! Hmmmmmmmmm...when it works it works! The whole story of this match was that Terry Funk was a ver…

  8. NWA US Champion Tully Blanchard vs Magnum TA - NWA Starrcade 1985 In all my years of fandom, I don't think there is more UN-polarizing match than this one. It is universally praised as a ***** classic and undoubtedly one of the great violent brawls in history. There have been so many words used to describe this masterpiece of hate by so many people. I will try to do the match justice with my words. What makes this match so special in my opinion are the screams of agony from Tully Blanchard into the microphone and Magnum's guttural roars of pain. It takes this match to a whole new visceral level. The eye gouging by both men is incredible. This is not a violent braw…

  9. This is for the North American Title. I enjoyed this, but not as much as the bounty match. Though they had a lot of themes playing off the previous match. I'll get to those in a bit. First off it was fun to see Reed revert to some of his heel tactics by using his body to shield the ref. Tommy Gilbert's looks really made it work. Matt and I were talking about how great Reed was at getting the crowd with him through his energy. Some of the call backs was Slater going back to work on Reed's neck which was his game plan last week. Another call back spot was Reed using the Figure 4 which is a revenge spots of sorts. Their was some neat small stuff in this too. Like when Slater…

  10. This ruled. The crowd is hot right off the bat. I loved how to counter act Humongous Jake had his own hockey match. Loved Jake attacking Humperdink pre match before Humongous to get in the match. The early portion we get a Jake shine. This is short lived though. Humongous just decimates him. He tears off his hockey mask and destroys Jake with the cage. This all ultra violent stuff with Jake bleeding big time. Humongous uses all the weapons at his disposal and is a great monster. Jake attempts a comeback by using his boot and delivers a DDT. Humongous kicks out of the DDT! Then we see him do the Undertaker sit up 6 years before him. Humongous beats on him some more till Ch…

  11. I enjoyed a lot of this match outside of Choshu and Scorpion Deathlock City. Tenryu is excellent as FIP and Jumbo looks great fired up after the hot tag. The finish is pretty meh. Tenryu was the backbone IMO. ***
