April 1987

  1. Rock N Roll Express vs Horsemen (Tully Blanchard & Lex Luger) - JCP 4/3/87 I am not sure of the date we want to use. I believe this was shown on SuperBouts on the Superstation 5/30/87, but I dont know how to find the cards for that. Cagematch makes me believe this is when the match takes place. Please move and/or re-date to the appropriate place. Decided to skip ahead and check out 1987 because of all the Crockett years, it is the year I know the least about and the one I have seen the least footage. The Flair promo giving Precious the mink coat only for her to take the coat and return to kissing Gorgeous Jimmy is the best angle ever! Ric Flair was in his e…

  2. Superpowers (Dusty Rhodes & Nikita Koloff) vs Horsemen (Lex Luger & Tully Blanchard) Crockett Cup 1987 Finals Does this match exist in full? It is JIP at the ten minute mark and we only get to see the heat segment and the finish. But what a heat segment it is. The next time someone (*cough* Meltzer *cough*) says Lex Luger cant work I am going to tell them to watch this and then tweet me in the eye and say they he cant work because brutha Lex Luger can fucking work. Nikita was wrestling with neck brace. He sickles Tully over the top rope. On the outside, JJ rips the neck brace off and Luger goes to town. Elbows to the neck and driving the neck into the railing…

  3. NWA World Champion Ric Flair vs Barry Windham - NWA Crockett Cup 1987 Wanted to start 2017 off with a bang with a classic that I had never seen before. I have seen the other two very famous Windham matches (Florida '86, Worldwide 1/87). If those two are the Oscar nominees, this is the action blockbuster. Very few people can make 25+ minutes feel like a sprint, but for these two competitors 25 minutes is just a drop in the bucket. From the outset of a Ric Flair match, there are three things to watch. How does he utilize space? How does he utilize motion? How does he utilize temperament? At the beginning, Flair is supremely confident in his abilities as a wrestler …

  4. I really hope we get this whole card that is topped off by a classic Flair-Windham match. Brad and Tully look great working with one another early on. Love the dragging headlock spot. Pops me everytime. Tully shining up both Armstrongs. Tully is a master of teasing a tag only to fail. Armstrongs do the fake tag behind the refs back. A real southern staple. JJ giving Luger help only for the ref to catch it. All the small touches are brillant. Tully finally tags in Luger. We got a really long ahine, but Tully is great in the role. Match slows up and it's about the Armstrong's shining up Luger which made the Armstrong's look even better when they out smarted Luger. Luger ga…

  5. The One Man Gang defends the UWF Heavyweight Title. Full review here: http://prowresblog.blogspot.com/2017/03/uuniversal-wrestling-federation-611987.html Thoughts: Big Bubba Rogers got the win with a top rope splash. Great match. They started out with testing each other through shoulder block collisions to see who could move the other and then Bubba took a fall into the corner and outside. He made a nice comeback and they basically traded blows until near the end when Gang missed a middle rope splash and Bubba made the comeback. Bubba threw excellent punches and both men were thrilled to bump around and sell big for the other guy. The cro…

  6. Jerry "The King" Lawler vs Austin Idol - Memphis 4/27/87 Steel Cage, Hair vs Hair Let’s get the funny part out of the way, which is Lance Russell continually calling Paul E., Paul Dangerly. Ton of fun bullshit to start with the ref ejecting Paul E. and Idol stating he will give a refund to every fan in attendance if he loses. Ok, now I am very intrigued about the finish and how they are going themselves out of this one. Idol is all flummoxed that Paul E. has been ejected and has really thrown if off his game. Idol tries to get out of the cage and after all this ballyhoo Lawler slams him into the cage to get this started. Repeated slams into the cage. The cage is H…

  7. Antonio Inoki vs Masa Saito - NJPW 4/27/87 The year 1987 saw the return of New Japan's Original Cool Heels, Masa Saito & Riki Choshu. Choshu is in the crowd for this match while Fujinami is Inoki's second. This is towards the beginning of the Inoki/Saito feud that would lead to the infamous Island Death Match. Long before the Final Deletion, Inoki had the idea to shoot a feature-length Death Match on a remote island. For someone who worshiped legitimacy, Inoki was the master of the spectacle and this match is a testament to that. It us a simple match but it builds to an incredible crescendo. It begins as a strong fundamentals-based wrestling match. Saito being an…
