1980-08-05 Joint Promotions Pat Roach vs Tony St Clair Bedworth, Warwickshire, United Kingdom Rating: ★★★ St Clair was the British Heavyweight Champion, but he was outweighed by the far larger Roach by nearly 5 stones. Despite this he was able to go toe to toe with the big man and the first few rounds were pretty scientific. They teased some more hard hitting spots, including a shoulder charge collision which they called back to repeatedly throughout, which gave the impression that St Clair wasn’t going to be steamrolled. Eventually Roach looked like he was going to make some headway using his power as he sent St Clair into the turnbuckle with such force he…

I liked this. I really enjoyed Twin Devil #2's offense as a counterpoint to Chavo's flash. #2 used rudo tactics throughout. His hair pull spot was one of the better ones I've seen. The monkey flips he took from Chavo got some series air on them. On top of it we got some twin magic with #1 coming in selling. I thought that was a nice touch. 2 1/2*

I loved Gary Hart's promo to start. Pak Song of course is famous in the Dusty Rhodes history. I enjoyed Mr. Hito in the match. I felt he brought a lot of energy here. Still not on the must see list.

1980-08-09 PNW Rick Martel (c) vs Buddy Rose NWA Pacific Northwest Heavyweight Title No Disqualification Best Two Out Of Three Falls Match Sports Arena, Portland, Oregon, USA Card ★★★ Two really good falls bookending a subpar one. Rose’s mask by now was really looking worse for wear, with more than half the original wig gone and it was completely frayed at the edges. Early on Rose did his usual stalling, but added in a few nice touches like turning his back to Martel in the corner and started to pray (at least that’s what it looked like to me). Martel got his own back in the end with a late flurry and his signature Hurricanrana into a pin got him the firs…

So far this has been amazing. Estela is getting serious heat . What a great heel. Pantera's comeback with the arm drags are tremendous. The fake hug spot was tremendous. Then the payback slap was a hell yeah. 2nd fall and Estela is just beating on Pantera. We see Pantera do a rana from a handstand position. Estela is now biting at the fore head. The one-two combo by Pantera was nasty. Super fun fall. 3rd fall and Estela is working the crowd. Big back senton by Pantera. Pantera with big time punches. A fun finish to a fun bout. 3 1/4*

This was a real solid bout. Ivan was great at calling this match. He did a great job at highlighting Atlas strengths. He put over his strength. He put over his speed. He highlighted Tony's great dropkick, I loved the finish of the 1st 2 falls. I loved the post match brawl.I dug the best chant ever of You can't beat Texas. I hated Ivan's over reliance on the nerve hold. Overall, good stuff 2 3/4*. Got some commercials. I loved the break check commercial. They also had a Houston 100 commercial which is something I donated to instead of getting a speeding ticket in the 90's.
