December 1981

  1. This was pretty ho hum. It was pretty evident these guys were working a 15 minute broadway. Of course it picked up at the last minute. I just found the match to lack spark.

  2. This paired with the Dick Slater match is one of those special Houston moments that the people there still talk about today. Manny is focusing on Tully's arm. All of Manny's work is full of vigor, and most importantly it looks like all the arm work hurts like hell. Manny is one of the great strikers of all time. In a small touch Tully positions his body so his arm is as far away from harms way is possible. Throughout the match Tully would get in some cheap shots. Eventually this leads to the flying burrito. The 2nd fall is short and sweet. Manny misses the burrito and hits his neck on the ropes. He then rebounds into a nasty Tully knee. It had a real UFC feel that kn…

  4. This was a real fun match. With a little more time this would be near or up their with some of the top end MX matches. Like Gino has grown on the classics viewers. I would wager the Dynamic Duo is going to come out of this as a top flight tag team. I think the ride will be exciting. It starts with it breaking down in H-town. It settles down and Rich scores a victory with the Thesz press. This was an old MX gimmick in 2 out of 3 falls by dropping a quick fall. Since the Duo predate the MX it's in their playbook as well. Throughout the match the Duo was so good at stooging and bumping around. You just wished they had more time . Slater and Rich were a good babyface tea…

  5. Scott Casey is the perfect example of a territorial wrestler. He spent years bouncing around the territories in the South. He's a solid worker. was a basic match that told a story. It had Casey working the arm. This was solid. I liked how he headbutted the wristlock. When Moon took control he had a good knee drop and most of his offense looked credible. A good undercard match that eats up some time on the card. 2 1/4*

  6. Man this was a fun match. Tom has his basic babyface psychology down. Robley has always been kind of like a precursor to Jake in the psychology department. We Tom work the arm early, Buck cuts him off with some nasty neck work. Hope spot by Tom. Another cut off by Buck. This time he works the back and ties in some neck work. Buck on top for a bit, but sprinkled in some hope spots for Tom. We get Tom's big comeback and Buck feeds for him. Only to pull the rug out from him and cheats to win which causes the crowd to erupt. This was good. 2 1/2*

  7. Man this was just a super fun match. Tully shined El Bracero up like my mom's Christmas China. Then Tully cut him off. This is easily one of the top 10 squash matches I've maybe ever seen.

  8. Buck Robley is a heels heel. CM Punk's yellow shirts were influenced by Robley. Robley's a heel I've always enjoyed. Always had really good psychology. He also had tons of stints as booker in a lot of places. Terry Allen is the future Magnum TA. Allens isn't particularly smooth here, but he shows fire and has an it factor to him. This was a good veteran vs youngster bout. Robley was really good working the back and then eventually the neck. At one point we get a great close up of a Robley stomp. Allen was good fighting underneath. This is good solid match. 2 1/2*

  9. This wasn't a great match. Though it had some really nifty things in it. Patton is working the old forearm gimmick. I truly loved how Dory would wack at the injury with a true meaness to it. Patton going into a sling blade like headlock was great. I loved him using the forearm gimmick to try to cauliflower Funk's ears. I enjoyed Patton's neck and ear work. Overall, they kept my interest. 2 1/2*

  10. This was a pretty good tag. The Dynamic Duo are so good at bumping and stooging. The 1st fall was a great shine sequence. Tito looked great as did Mil. I loved Mil's double Mexican arm drag to the Duo. A super fun 1st fall. The 2nd fall was solid work too. We got some more focus on Mil and in a total shock drops the fall. The 3rd fall the heat is really growing. The match ends up out of control and leads to a double count out. 3 3/4*
