I was just thinking about some of this stuff last night when I watched Superstars, as well as reading some of JR's comments about people being impatient or critical with new stars. MVP and Carlito main evented, and it solidified for me why MVP should never go above midcard. Can he wrestle? Of course. Do fans like him? Sure. But he's just missing that something - that star power that pushes one over the edge. and makes you really care what he does He's stuck at U.S. level because that's all he deserves. It's okay - someone has to put on decent midcard matches. Hardy on SD was another example. Matt has done work with Drew two weeks in a row now. Crowds LO…

http://www.wrestlecrap.com/newinductions.html RD, Blade and Triple Kelly listed their 10 favorite inductions on the Wrestlecrap site... not all of them covering wrestling, but given that RD has covered bad Christmas movies each year, you could probably figure they'd pick a couple of those inductions. But this brings up a topic worth discussing: What would be the worst wrestling gimmicks and angles of all time? I'll share mine later, but this can be a fun topic to discuss, as much of those gimmicks and angles are ones we can look back and laugh at... only there are those that really caused damage to a promotion.

Amazon has the detailed DVD listing up. The WWE focused quite a bit on matches that involved Hart Family members either teaming up or facing each other, which means several matches that have been featured on other DVDs are repeated here. I suppose one could argue they should have tried to find certain house show matches, but the way WWE operates, they tend to go with matches the majority of people are familiar with. I'll probably pick this one up mostly to see what the various Hart family members that got interviewed have to say, since most of what we have heard recently has been Bret's side of things.

Cageside Seats liveblog Dave's coverage at F4WOnline Weird show. Looked great on paper, wasn't so great in execution. The 3-way was surprisingly good with a crowd that cared a lot more than I expected them to, MITB was fun with some innovative spots like Kofi's stilts, Dave-Cena was very good with a great finish, and Michaels-Taker was great with an even greater finish, but the rest was pretty underwhelming. The tag title match and Rey-Punk didn't get any time. Jericho-Edge was mind-numbingly dull but the post-match spot was cool. HHH-Sheamus was nothing as a match and pointless without Sheamus going over or looking like something special. Bret-Vince was biz…

Posted this on another forum... As a fairly recent contributor/poster here to this humble little community of wrestling nerditude, I found myself initially blown away by the wealth of matches and shows made available, the discussions and the general breadth of knowledge of wrestling around the globe. It's definitely seen the amount of wrestling on my want-to-see list grow exponentially... the point now where it's almost overwhelming. How do y'all follow/keep up with all of the wrestling going on--not to mention all the good stuff from yesteryear you might have missed the first time around?

From WWE's latest 10-Q filing w/ the SEC... Levy is presumably Raven. This could end up being a very interesting story.

EDITED TO ADD: I meant in that subtitle that the match had been superpimped, but I wasn't superpimping it. I was pretty excited to sit down and watch this match, after all the love it seems to have gotten across the board. I was excited when Aries gave a nice bastardly promo, amused at how he used words like heel and face. And then I was interested in how they started slowly, feeling easch other out. Countering each other's moves. I appreciated Davey's knee being "hurt" and their presence of mind to keep that as a factor. There were even some really great spots. But about half way through, I just lost interest. Ironically, it was about the time the crowd g…

As I work for a wrestling homepage I am in constant need of sources and material. One thing I have noticed is that constantly wrestling homepages are disappearing, just think of the end of Geocities. Because of that it is quite difficult to compile results and title histories for some promotions, especially late 90s independent promotions like OMEGA, AWC, SCW and NWA 2000. I hope somewhere somebody has a mirror of whoowrestling.com, those promotions had their respective sections over there. So do you have old bits and bytes lying around collecting data-dust? Maybe in the end RSPW will be again the only available source. That would be weird and hilarious

The Hart family has long served as Canada’s first family of Sports Entertainment, from patriarch Stu and his Stampede Wrestling and Dungeon, a training site that has produced multiple Hall of Famers, though sons Bret, Owen, on to a new generation of WWE Superstars, The Hart Dynasty. But the family’s journey was never a smooth one, as their accomplishments were often punctuated with devastating tragedies and loss. Now for the first time ever, fans can learn the entire story in Hart & Soul: The Hart Family Anthology. A brand new documentary chronicling more than 5 decades of family lineage is filled with never-before-seen Hart family interviews and supplemented with a d…

Rovert made a little post about this over in comments that don't warrant a thread, but after finally seeing this (I got it during KC's buy 2 get 1 sale, so i didn't have to pay for it ) I think it is something that's worthy of it's own discussion thread. This really shouldn't have been an entry in the GB series, because his "booking" amounts to a JCP/CWF merger and which wrestlers he'd have used from each company. That's it. The bulk is Graham talking about growing up in the business, his father running FL, and his time in WCW. And, just like his time on the Rise and Fall DVD the bulk of what comes out of his mouth is complete bullshit. Here's just a small sampling…

Last night, I started watching the Best of Raw 2009 set. Just made it about 90 min or so, but I can already tell that this is the way to watch RAW. There's so much garbage in a single episode that over the span of a year, it becomes unbearable. The set is divided by month. Each month gets a highlight reel, and then they show a match or two combined with some segments (not every month gets a match, but most of them do). So the January bit had HBK/Cena and the final Punk/Regal where Punk wins the IC belt [i had forgotten how tiny little Lailer has to almost run to keep up with Regal's steps during their entrance]. Then it had the very long segment that was Jerich…

The Midnight Express vs. The Fantastics (No DQ) (Mid-South, 1984) For a match to be special or stand-out, it usually has to do the little things right. The small attention to detail that could easily be overlooked, but when applied throughout, make a match that more special. If you didn?t know by now, Mid-South loved the gimmick matches, and they especially loved No DQ matches. As a background, Jim Cornette is wearing a wrestler?s mask at ringside. He recently had his head shaved when Hercules Hernandez (Cornette?s bodyguard) lost a match to Jim Duggan. This is also the Condrey & Eaton version of the MX so people don?t go in expecting Stan Lane. Before the match e…

Stan Hansen vs. Kenta Kobashi 4-10-94 This is a Champion's Carnival match. WHAT WORKED: * Hansen being absolutely surly, and Kobashi being a daredevil against the huge Texan. * Kobashi bringing the fight to Hansen, retribution for years of being Hansen's punching bag. * The brawling on the outside was terrific, Kobashi was like a man possessed. * The bumps and stiffness, staples of AJPW in the '90s. Like the powerbomb on the floor with Vader like force. * Kobashi's spectacular selling, Hansen was no slouch either. WHAT DIDN'T WORK: * The ref and his terrible counts - All Japan had some of the worst refs ever. * Didn't live up to expectations of their 7/29…

Tabe and I decided to do something like this article about video games for commercially released wrestling videos after daring each other to try for far too long. We need assistance from everyone to make it as good as possible. Off the top of my head, we need more details about: - Whether or not anyone has ever seen an official release copy of WCW Clash of the Champions XXIII that was advertised during the show with an 800 number and then forgotten about. - Details on the video only available with new subscriptions to WWF Magazine that included the Slaughter-Patterson Alley Fight. - Details on the WCW Fan Favorites video (that I recall was some sort of exclusive) …

I wasn't around for much of ECW. I only saw the show on TNN once in a blue moon back in 1999, but I liked it though I didn't know why such an awesome program (for a teenager) was on at 11 PM on a Friday night. I never noticed the shabby production values though I wondered if ECW was the American version of FMW. To me it seemed toned down but I still watched it. When they brought back ECW in 2006 I started watching again but drifted away as it seemed to become more like Raw and Smackdown. If it wasn't for Christian and Shelton Benjamin I don't think I would have started watching it again. So I was hanging around on another forum I go to and I saw a interesting blog by a gu…

Seriously. Really not a weak match on the entire show. Consistently entertaining which, really, is all you can ask out of wrestling.

Somehow TMZ scooped Herb on this one: http://www.tmz.com/2010/01/28/wwe-star-chr...ed-in-kentucky/ WWE wrestler Chris Jericho was arrested at a gas station in Kentucky early Wednesday morning after cops say he and a fellow wrestler were both "extremely intoxicated" in public. Chris Jerico mug shot 39-year-old Jericho was taken into custody in Kenton County around 5 AM for "alcohol intoxication in a public place." Jericho -- who was arrested along with fellow wrestler Greg "Hurricane" Helms -- was forced to smile for cop cam -- and TMZ obtained the mug shots. Jericho and Helms were released on $120 bond -- each -- no that's not a typo. Re…

I was lurking the TOA board recently and saw variations of this same post in a couple of threads. It's always intrigued me how people got into wrestling and how they've maintained that interest. Using the who, what, when, where and why format, tell your wrestling story. Who got you interested? What initially drew your interest and kept it? How old were you? Where did you live/attend first show/watch first TV episode? Why did you like and continue to like wrestling (or why not)? Use Etc. at the end to fill in any gaps. Here's mine (a little rushed since I only have a few minutes left on my lunch break): Who: Around 1st grade, my parents rented a VCR from the loca…
