Did anything ever come of WWE possibly getting the tape/film/whatever library of Wrestling at the Chase? I recall hearing HHH was a proponent of the purchase and lobbying to Vince for it, but that was the last I heard? Phil? Tomk? Bix? Thanks dudes.

Was wrestling always this bad and I'm just now noticing? Both shows were pretty wretched tonight. I should save that TNA show anytime I'm nostalgic for WCW. If WCW was still around, that's what it would look like now.

I noticed that on the VHS box set of WrestleMania the WWF released in 1998 that all the commercial music is left in ("Easy Lover," "Sirius," "Who's Zoomin' Who?," etc.) Was this just some huge oversight by WWF Legal or was there a long-term contract for this stuff? I have an original home video of WrestleMania I and there is absolutely no commercial music on it.

You know those DVD sets you see at the supermarket that are these tin boxes with a few discs inside? Usually it's stuff like "WAR:The Warriest Parts of World War 2", "The Best Of Red Skelton" or "The Big Country on DVD". I've always glanced at the rack looking for some wrestling thinking it's an obvious choice but no dice. Until now. I picked this set up for 9 bucks yesterday. I know the Pat O'Conner/ Buddy Rogers match is the one we've all seen and is on the new WWE "World Championship" dvd and the Lawler/ Savage cage match must be the one we all have, but the rest of it looks like a blast. And it was packaged in a snazzy tin box with Buddy Rogers on the front. I can't w…

Why is Jesse Ventura edited out of so many DVDs but not all? I figure WWE would pay whatever it took to keep Jesse's commentary in the SNME DVD set yet he's also in the Starrcade set but not the WCW one. Also, why is he the only talent supposedly owed royalties for WWE tapes? I thought Vince was pretty good about getting iron-clad "I own everything" contracts?

There have been rumours circulating around the IWC that Bret Hart might make a return to the WWE to be involved in some storylines. Personally I'm not sure if I believe that, but the prospect of Bret returning should provide a platform for plenty of discussion. Here are some questions that should provide some food for thought... - After years of saying he'd never return to the WWE after what they did to him - a stance many people respected him for, does this influence how you think of Bret? I know a lot of die hard Bret Hart fans have said in the past that Bret Hart has too much integrity to return to the WWE. There are lots of fans who believe in Bret for that reaso…

A couple months ago while doing a random google search, I discovered this amazing blog/website that had the most incredible detailed reviews of Joshi and other top Japanese wrestling from the early 1990's up to around five years ago. It was something like "Moss Covered Three Handled Credenza". Anyone familiar with this site? It seems to be gone now. It was hosted by yahoo/geocities and the page no longer exists. Did it relocate? Or does anyone know how to contact the owner?

Sometime I wonder what would have happened with the careers of workers whose careers have been cut short because of injury or death. What would have happened in the career of : Magnum TA Art Barr Eddie Gilbert Brian Pillman (if no car accident that fucked up his ankle) Bruiser Brody Adrian Adonis Crash Holly I wonder how they would have fit in the scene...

This seems light years better than the inexplicably lame 10th anniversary DVD. From what I can tell, they've pretty much nailed all the major moments.

from somewhere that c/p'ed it from Amazon: Apparently Rock had control over which matches went on the set, which probably explains why there doesn't seem to be any obvious gaps.

So I'm in Melbourne on a holiday and about to see Pearl Jam in concert, and I'm wasting time at a Casino before the concert. I leave the Casino and there was Ric Flair walking up the pavement. It's not everyday you see a famous guy just walking along, and I made a total dick out of myself by shouting "Holy shit that's Ric Flair! Holy shit that's Ric Flair!" A few people in the street were looking at me like I was on drugs. Flair, who was about 15 metres away from me, didn't look at me, which was probably a good thing. It was interesting Flair walks in real life with the same strut he does to the ring. And he did have an arrogance about him. It was interesting to note…

I just watched Tito Santana vs Ed Dean (4/25/87 Superstars) and Dean blew a hammerlock reversal and a leapfrog spot. This reminded me how awesome superstar vs incompetent jobber matches can be. Like, there was an Iron Sheik match from the European IWCCW tapes where he had some +250 slob opponent and at the end just gutwrenched him into oblivion and I bet his opponent didn't know that spot (might have been the Dublin Destroyer) I could have posted this in "Make That Comp!", but a mere listamania should be enough for me, as I might have other "gems" unbeknown to me So give me your clueless, give me your incompetent, the technically impaired and all the guys who ha…

Brock appears to be in a bad, career threatening way beyond the original mono: http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/11346 Major surgery adds a new thing to the mix. The earlier nature of the comments made me think it might be something along the lines of Hepatitis (since cancer and HIV were denied by Dana). Major intestinal disorder and surgery... doesn't sound like Hep at this stage. Not how one would describe kidney failure either, which would be something that's career threatening. I'm less knowledgeable about intestinal issues than kidney and liver. Anyone know what the possibilities of what this is sounding like that could be career threatening? …

This is from the Stampede Classics set I got from Mort, and it's an interesting match for a couple reasons. First, and most obviously, Yamada is Jushin Lyger wrestling sans mask and under his real name. Secondly, I don't know if it's Yamada's first match in North America or just in Stampede, but he's palpably nervous out there. Probably worried about Stu kicking his ass if he screws up. Thirdly, I don't know if its because he's not wearing the Lyger bodysuit, but Yamada looks thick here. He looks like a hoss-in-training rather than what he'd end up becoming. The best comparison I can make is he looks like a young Mr. Saito out there. The match itself reminds me of…

Anyone else had a chance to check this out? I watched it tonight and what an uncomfortable movie to sit through. I never thought of the daily lives of washed-up 80s wrestlers until watching it but I would think this would be an extreme case of being down on your luck. I may be completely off the mark and this may be pretty typical. Anyone else care to comment?

Best of NYC, 2009: Best Place to Watch Straight Men Get All Homoerotic Yes, I did post more about it on Cageside Seats. It clearly supposed to be a positive review but the ROH fans in the comments and at the ROH forum (where the thread was locked) don't seem to understand that.

I was reading the back issues of the WON from 1992 on their website, and Dave's devoted the better part of the March 1992 issues to discussing the sex scandals plaguing the WWF at that time. These days it seems to be the conventional wisdom that Terry Garvin and Mel Phillips were more likely than not guilty of what they were accused of doing, but that Pat Patterson was thrown under the bus for being openly gay. What I'm wondering is that there were several wrestlers claiming they were told by a "WWF official" that the only way they would get employment and/or a push with the company would be in exchange for sexual favors. A few mentioned Patterson specifically, a…

Now, I think it's safe to say that Goldbergs streak was a double edged sword. It certainly could have ended better than it did without burying Goldberg, but what really could you do to end that kind of a streak? Would you have used it as a vehicle to get a new heel over? The book is yours.

just seeing if anyone can help me with this, or point me in a direction- i've been arbitrarily searching through old observers and it's not getting me anywhere except sidetracked. i'm working on a short paper about the idea of "protecting" the wrestling business, looking the nature of kayfabe and how it's evolved now that it's pretty much universally admitted that wrestling is worked. what i'm looking for is very specific, sort of. i believe i read a story about bill watts' mid south territory, and him telling guys that if they were out in public and got into a fight with a civilian, whatever the situation, they better win, and if they didn't then they shouldn't…

Chris Jericho vs Batista - WWE Monday Night RAW 05/19/2008 We live in an era where the average television match featuring main event personalities is typically given plenty of time to develop, so there has probably never been a time period for American wrestling fans where they have gotten to see as many terrific wrestling matches for free. Because of this, many matches which would have stood out and been considerably praised in years past are now just considered standard fare, and we typically don't even notice the good matches, or if we do, we often don't even care. The match on Monday Night RAW between Chris Jericho and Batista managed to stand out for several reas…

Reading through some of the old threads about WCW and reading several posts debating just what type of impact Eric Bischoff really had, as well at least one post regarding how all the guys in charge of WCW would rank, has inspired me to bring up this subject... and maybe it will help to revive this particular section of the forum. So what I'm going to do is throw out some of the arguments or pluses that have been thrown out regarding the positives Bischoff contributed to WCW and take a look at where things really stand with them. 1. He was the only executive vice president of WCW to see the company turn a profit: It is true that WCW had been losing money ever sin…

I was reading through the "Who Is Better?" thread and stumbled across this post by DylanWaco on being innovative in wrestling: This is a great post and got me thinking... what are other aspects of a pro wrestler that people talk up as being a significant quality, that is in large irrelevant in the big picture? I'll go with the importance of being a "technical" wrestler. Sometimes you'll get into an argument with someone and their argument against, say, a Mick Foley or a John Cena type would be "he doesn't do technical wrestling holds, so he can't wrestle", without seeming to understand the fact that it's not about what you do but rather how you piece the match tog…
