I am talking about WWF in the 80's compared to WWE now. Leaving Trish,Chyna, and Sable out of the equation. I'm talking about The Bella,Kelly Kelly,Maria,Eve,and Layla. Women who cannot wrestle and are absolutely no good in the ring. The reason why I ask this question is because I am seeing people waxing nostalgia about Moolah and Ritcher matches from the 80's and some where even pimping Martel. I go back and look at these and the were complete clusterfucks and bad (if not worse) then the current batch (obviously with the few exceptions). So bad wrestlers of the past and bad wrestlers today, who drew more between the two? Is there a way to calculate this. Obviously …

Rhonda was a friend of mine via email, and she sadly passed late last year. She mentioned before that she used to be in wrestling, and her obit confirms that: http://www.legacy.com/providence/Obituarie...sonID=122098924 Does anyone recall what names she went by and where she was seen? She did tell me at one point, but I forgot...

I wonder if the top guy rumored to have failed a test was Kane. It seems like his recent vacation was just long enough to be a cover for a Wellness violation. I'd have to think one of the "top guys with exemptions" would have to be Batista. No way a guy his age can keep the physique he has in a post-Wellness world without some kind of get out of jail free card.

This was mentioned in the "Comments that don't deserve a thread" thread but I think it kind of does due to the potential ramifications. Edge was injured at a house show last night, possibly a torn Achilles tendon. WWE is looking at ways to get the tag belts on Rhodes and DiBiase, and this derails what looks like could have been a great heel combo with him and Jericho.

Well, at least we know now why things got so mean-spirited on TV recently. "How dare she quit WWE when Vince was generous enough to give her a job after her husband died and embarrassed the company! She should have apologized for Eddy's death embarrassing WWE like Hector did..."

On his podcast this week, Jim Cornette suggested compiling all of John Laurinitis' biggest mistakes in one place for convenience. It seemed like a good idea, so I'll follow Cornette's lead. I'll start with the obvious: - Hiring the wrong one-legged guy

His "overview" of Misawa's career and his childish defense of it are embarrassing, and it made me think, how did he get in the position he is at right now? Does Meltzer deserve the credit of his success by putting him as his sidekick on WOL in 1999? Nothing against Alvarez, I like him at times and he's done some great work in the past, but it just makes me wonder how he got chosen to be the number 2 guy and if there would be someone better.

  10. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2009/03/31/8956556.html Really interesting stuff, figured I'd give it its own topic. I presume that the two racists on the 24/7 Black History Month round table that Heyman is referring to are Watts and Dusty? Odd that there's no reference to Madusa also being Jewish when she's mentioned or the fact that Cabana's name change to Scotty Goldman was clearly an attempt to "Jew up" the character.

  11. This comment from Death From Above got me thinking in tangets: Wrestling, and more specifically writing about it, have always been hobbies for most people. Despite a few people making careers out of it or securing book deals, wrestling criticism has never been pursued as seriously as film criticism, music criticism or sports journalism. That's understandable given the sheer scale of those entertainment forms, but while I was thinking about this, I couldn't shake the feeling that wrestling isn't as worthy a subject as film, music, sport or literature. So, I started thinking about whether I actually like wrestling as much as film or music or rugby, basketball and …

  13. http://www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/fay...or_lawsuit.html With Astin broke and in prison, I'm curious to see who the "three unnamed drug distributors" are. Meanwhile, amidst a column from a day earlier the brings back the "Benoit dealt drugs" speculation, Irv Muchnick brings up an important point: So if Chris Benoit's parents and/or his surviving children are filing their own suit (wrongful death against Astin and/or WWE for his suicide?), it'll happen within the next two weeks.

So the WON is reporting that ROH is starting to scale back on the spending. Puder is already done with them for now, they'll be cutting down on the amount of wrestlers they fly in, and the amount of guys they're booking. I'm honestly not surprised at all, between the trips to England, Japan, and the two shows on the West Coast, there's no way they could have hoped to break even. Nto to mention that while the PPV venture was low risk, it was also very low reward. Especially given ROH's tendency to completely rely on word of mouth.

I hate to bring my own show into a topic like this, but I had to share this. On Smart Mark Radio tonight, Ric Lieb actually tried to convince me and the panel that the David Von Erich Memorial Parade of Champions, headlined by Kerry Von Erich winning the NWA World Heavyweight Championship over Ric Flair in memory of recently deceased David Von Erich, only had the crowd it did (which he tried to claim was 80,000) because it was Flair defending the title. I'm pretty sure that Kerry going for the title in David's memory was the actual draw, and it didn't matter if it was Flair, Harley Race, Terry Funk, or just about anybody else on the opposite side of the ring. The…

I called the Conservatory and they said I could get an interview. There's only so much I can glean about him from Terry's book, and I'm not too familiar with his work other than "he was world champ" and "he helped train a bunch of guys". I got a lot of help here for the Harley Race interview and I'd appreciate that help again.

  21. I just happened to glance at Irv's blog for the first time in a while, despite the fact it seems like he's completely gone off the rails after the Benoit stuff. This entry caught my eye: Now while it's no secret that there were some questions about Randy's accident, there seems to be a million other more likely scenarios other than some kind of suicide-by-bike-wreck theory. Irv seems to be referring to an incident after Wrestlemania 22 (April 2006) where something "serious" happened at Randy's home in St. Louis and John Laurinaitis investigated and discounted the suicide rumors (which of course Irv writes off as "what WWE wanted to believe"). After the …

So, I have been working on the Four Horsemen set and, as a match finished, I was reading the "Same Moves on the Same Show" thread. Dylan mentioned that context was key and it got me to thinking... What moves would I love to see re-introduced as finishers and what moves are better left in the dustbin of history? This brings me to the Horsemen. Is there any reason the Gourdbuster isn't used anymore? Arn picking jobbers up and slamming them on their face seems like a credible finisher. With that said, I don't think I have seen anyone use it, even as a transitional move, in over 20 years. When you watch those slo-mo replays and see Gene Ligon or Ron Rossi's face bounce off th…

Meltzer had a little tweak in today's update that I'm assuming is aimed at jdw and the rest of the "Jumbo wasn't lazy" fans (of which I am one). "--There is an interview with Rick Martel as yesterday was the 25th anniversary of his AWA title win over Jumbo Tsuruta at http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Wrestling/2009/05/11/9427566.html He wasn't that high on his title win match over Tsuruta which no doubt will cause some people's brains to short circuit."

The DDT is victim to this. During WCW's heyday's the luchas would break out about 5-8 DDT's in a match and guys like Bagwell would use it as transitional moves while Raven was using it as a finisher. WWE does a pretty good job of protected guys signature moves and so does TNA (to an extent-though Skipper and Shelley were using the same move at one point and it was a finisher for Skipper and just an impact move when Shelley did it). I guess mainly this is relegated to the indies now and I just want to know everyone's thoughts. When I was younger and watched WCW, I didn't really care, but NOW I cannot watch a full episode of Nitro without seeing a DDT doing so many times an…
