http://www.f4wonline.com/content/view/7554/ Official page: http://www.highspots.com/ricflair/flair_charlotte.asp How the hell did this happen? Hogan's appearance fee is something like $35,000, isn't it? How much more would it cost to get him to referee a match?

Rey Misterio Jr v Ultimo Dragon - WCW World War 3 1996 A match like this is hard to talk about and still do justice. You say the action is "incredibly fast", but lots of matches have "incredibly fast" action, so what makes this stand out from the pack? You talk about Rey's selling, but Rey's selling, with few exceptions, is typically excellent. So what makes his selling here stand out more than it normally would? Sometimes, a match is greater than the sum of its parts. I consider that an achievement when it happens, because I think it's part of the goal of working. That said, it's only part of it. The other part of working is to live up to, even exceed, the expectatio…

Scrolling around the interwebz I come across this blurb from about a week ago: http://pulsewrestling.com/2008/11/24/union...e-wwe-universe/ Is this not being talked about just because it's more hot air and is a non-story? Or did the whole thing happen and I'm just that far under a rock? It would be the irony to end all ironies in wrestling if it was Vince McMahon's own push to have wrestlers qualified as "entertainers" that forces his hand into unionizing whether he likes it or not.

Walking the dog, I drifted off and started thinking about how despite having a kinda weird, trivial thing as his legacy, being Dave Meltzer is probably a fairly pleasant existence, at least in terms of enjoying a low-stress career that he by all accounts enjoys and finds lots of perks and green in. I was reminded of widely differing reports I’ve read of just how pleasant an existence it actually is, leading me to a few questions that I’m wondering if there’s any consensus on. I posted this elsewhere before being reminded that there are a bunch of folks on this board who know Meltzer or at least know a bit about the WON: - Is there any sense of roughly how many peopl…

Apparently Vince is very upset over the Celebrity Wrestling show. He thinks it exposes the business and, well, you know that weird thing he has about Hogan. On the new Observer Radio show tonight, Dave reported that Vince was freaking out on the plane yesterday (during the flight from Stamford to Boston. Yes, he took a plane from Connecticut to Massachusetts) and saying that no one involved with the show would ever work with WWE again. Bischoff has a new blog up in which he describes Vince's hurt feelings as well as hilariously inflates his show's popularity.

Mrs. Race was kind enough to give me their phone number for the purposes of an interview, and I'm not familiar enough with Harley to ask enough questions to fill more than a couple minutes. So if you have anything you'd like to know, post it!

Black Bart's shoot is awesome for sheer BS level: He claims Dusty Rhodes came up with the Undertaker gimmick, and that Black Bart was supposed to play that character. He also claims he's the biggest locker room legend in today's WWE (for his antics back in the day) Piper had a warrant for his arrest, so Bart pulled a car up to the ring w/ Piper in the trunk, popped it, Piper wrestled, and then hopped back in the trunk and they took off. Oh God, Black Bart actually just claimed he was offered 180 grand to star in a Fox Network sitcom based on his, Dutch and Moondog Rex "Desperodos" gimmick. Flair told The TBS execs "We can't have these jabronis star in …

Reading some talkback about TNA and how they always mention the WWE, etc. etc. And it got me to thinking...why was it OK for Vintage ECW to make WWF and WCW their heels too (heck, they used the fact that some of their guys were jumping to make them better heels) and to use misused Big Two people. But when TNA does it, they're just big dopes? (I am not necessarily defending TNA, I can see the whole pushing EVERYONE from WWE thing, there needs to be a balance there. On the other hand, there's WWE prejudice against anyone who came from anywhere else)

http://rohwrestling.com/news/article.aspx?id=1999 I was scouring the web looking for the ECWA Super 8 results (my best friend worked the show), saw this posted on DOI, and figured it was the usual DOI bullshit, until they posted the link to the story.

Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin (2/12) This will probably be a a pretty solid set. I'm guessing it will be heavy on the WWF era, but there should be space for some of his WCW work and maybe even a World Class match or two just to complete the picture. This could end up interesting since allegedly Austin was lobbying hard to include some matches with Benoit, so this may end up being a test of the embargo on his likeness appearing on TV/DVD again. Triple H: King of Kings (3/25) I think I've reached the point of accepting Triple H is going to be a fixture of WWE for a long time, and it's probably time for him to get the deluxe treatment since his last DVD …

Apparently, in addition to severing ties with WWE this week, his wife of two years has filed for divorce. Poor Ric, but why does he insist on shooting himself in the foot constantly?

I figured being a HBK trainee would spare him, guess not. I guess he'll be on the next TNA PPV doing shoot promos wishing he was still in WWE now.

I hope no one minds me posting these results. We spent a few months working on this at the Smarkschoice forum, uploading/watching matches and digging for overlooked matches. 32 people voted, some from here, so I figured I'd post the final results. Voters were asked to rank the best WWF/WWE matches from #1 to #50, with #1 being worth 50 points and so on. Matches were ranked by total points, with number of votes breaking ties when possible. A "=" in front of the number indicates a tie. In all, 322 matches from 1978 to 2008 received votes. #1. Submission Match: Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart - Wrestlemania XIII 3/23/97 (1,338 points, 29 votes, 4 top 20 votes, 4 top 10 …

Just read this in a review on 411 for the Crockett Cup: This is the debut of the third incarnation of the Midnight Express as Stan Lane replaces Dennis Condrey who left without explanation. Lane had just had a falling out with his regular tag partner in the Fabulous Ones, Steve Keirn (Skinner to all you WWF fans) and needed something to do. Cornette already had a replacement for Condrey lined up named – Tim Horner. They even broke up the Lightning Express to make it happen, which is why you see Armstrong and Horner wrestling with different partners. Anyway, as the story goes, Horner was practically trying on the Midnight Express threads when Lane called JCP and ask…

Apparently in Wednesday's WON: If they do it realistically (charge the cable companies little to no money to get clearances), this could be pretty interesting. Plus, an actual channel would require them to unleash more content and that would be awesome. How much ad money could they get, though>

This isn't anything mind blowing, but it's a lot of fun for what it is, which is your typical heel NWA Champion vs. Local Challenger on fast-forward. It seems like Mero has the edge on Barry with his speed and flying, but Barry uses his experience to overcome that when he catches Mero in the corner and unloads some elbows, and uses his wrestling to keep him at bay with some holds, including a nice sleeper hold, where he puts his feet on the ropes to add pressure. What really makes this stand out for me, are the various openings that Barry gives Mero to reel off some hope spots, such as the suplex reversal, and the sunset flip. And towards the end, Mero starts pulling …

Bix and I were talking on AIM a while back about the most "natural" wrestlers, meaning the ones that seemed to be really good, really early on, and didn't really go through all that ugly a learning curve in their early years. The guys we came up with were Jumbo Tsuruta, Ricky Morton, Barry Windham, Bobby Eaton, Owen Hart, and Eddy Guerrero that it would apply to most. There are probably others, but footage in the early years of guys like Ricky Steamboat or whoever is somewhat limited. Are there any others you would add to that list? This was the result of talking about how people who like Kurt Angle seem to think him being at the level he was in 2001-2002 was o…
