  1. Started by MoS,

I have been thinking about this for a while. I am not sure how exactly to articulate this, but I will try my best. Fans just naturally assume that Vince Jr. is a better promoter/booker than Vince Jr., but...is that true? Vince Jr. obviously has made a lot more money, and completely changed the nature of pro wrestling and made WWF the only game in town, which is by far the biggest argument in his favour. However, Vince Jr. has also presided over a product that has led to more and more fans giving up on his product for god knows how many years now. Yes, they make more money now than they have ever had, but a lot of that is due to alternative revenue streams that simpl…

@joeg's excellent thread about winning streaks made me think of this. It has to be between Cena, Rock and Flair, isn't it? ALl of them have ridiculous losses on the record. If I had to go with one, I would pick Rock. Cena had the more squashy, jobber-y losses, but he was also booked like a superman in some of his matches. Rock's run was much briefer (although obviously had much higher highs) and even during that run, he was jobbing clean to Big Bossman, E&C, and even tapping to a Chris Benoit crossface. And this is something I would like to be discussed, should a top guy be unselfish? Like of course they should not sandbag their opponents, but do we really …

  4. This thread might have been inspired by AEW Revolution's main event. In what was so far a very good bout, with nice touches and homages to FMW's ridiculously fun deathmatches, both Omega and Mox saw their competition overshadowed by the last minute. Instead of the intended outcome of a ring exploding, we saw farty pyros that would make Gillberg laugh. Of course, in the future we will all remember that moment and not the solid match that came beforehand. Do you guys have any memories of matches that suffered a similar fate? I remember loving Brock vs Reigns I but the finish kinda left a sour taste in my mouth and it proved to be a dumb decision later.

  5. Started by Loss,

So what I've been doing the last several months is trying to make sense of my personal collection of footage. That has meant compiling everything in a chronological way, finding the versions of things that aired using the best possible quality and the most complete version, and all of that. Putting together a global chronological footage timeline for pro wrestling. I did this off the radar for the pre-80s a few years back, and while I do still have a few gaps, I'm fairly confident I've accounted for about 95% of what exists. As I'm doing this, I'm also trying to eliminate filler. To be clear, my definition for filler is pretty low and doesn't mean "only keep the 4* m…

Ok, we are four days away from WWE vs AEW on Wednesday night. This is one of biggest weeks for wrestling (in North America anyway) in a while, with the WWE Fox premiere on Friday also a major story. As a Canadian, I'm a little pissed that no AEW viewing option has been announced at this late stage, but whatever, in 2019 it won't be hard to watch Dynamite if I really want to. I just prefer the convenience of a streaming option on Roku. Also, is Smackdown going to be on Hulu now that it's on Fox? Not that I want to watch weekly, but I wouldn't mind checking out the debut ep. Again, I'll find it if I really want to see it. Anyway, I'm pretty interested in seeing how all this…

  7. This was posted in the YouTube links thread, but since there are only 15 days left and a lot of $ still to be raised I thought I would create this thread to try and scare up some donations. I think this is a super worthy cause. Previously, the footage is of poor quality and with, let's say, questionable commentary. What has been restored so far looks so amazing. I'm not quite sure what I want to say about this topic, but I think it's interesting and wanted to at least start the discussion. Message boards already seem a bit archaic, but obviously the posters at our board have been aging for a while now. Now we're also seeing that in wrestling at large. I thought this could be a catch-all thread for people to discuss why they think this is happening, thoughts on what to do about it, and also over time just post more examples of this trend taking hold in different forms. Wrestling doesn't seem to have much appeal to teens and people in their early 20s at the moment and there are a lot of reasons for that, most likely.…

So Steve Austin recently said on his podcast that Ricochet was the most athletic, most explosive worker he had ever seen in the ring. It must be true because Stone Cold said so! Right? Anyways since I heard that about a week ago I've been trying to come up with somebody and I've yet to come up with somebody who is positively more athletic than Ricochet. Surely shooters like Lesnar and Angle were more FAR more explosive, but they weren't near as acrobatic as Ricochet. I don't think I've seen anybody jump the RVD could, but at times it seemed he lacked coordination and therefor wasn't always the most graceful. Thoughts?

The discussion a week back in the Observer HOF about Kobashi's rookie year inspired me to start this thread. What wrestler had the greatest rookie year ever? Who are some wrestlers that were just a natural from the get go? Who had a bad rookie year but eventually ended up being a decent worker? What wrestlers looked awful in their first year but ended up having great careers later? I'll start off with a few names that I think are no brainers- Jerry Lawler, won his first title 16 months in and by the end of his third year was the top heel in the territory. Jun Akiyama, more crisp and smooth that most 10 year vets in his debut match and only got better fro…

Since CMLL felt compelled to put a video out on their Youtube channel confirming their partnership with New Japan was still strong, I thought it would be interesting to see which companies are working with whom in 2021: AEW: New Japan, Impact, AAA (although they can't work with anyone in the US due to lawsuits) New Japan: AEW, CMLL, Impact, ROH (maybe? Marty Scrull just showed up here after getting fired from ROH, not sure how that will go down) Impact: AEW, New Japan, AAA (same disclaimer as above) WWE: Still has ties with UK indies but none of them appear to be running shows anytime soon It still amazes me how the business has gone from …

Per Billy Corgan: It’s with a heavy heart that I share that my friend and brother in wrestling, Joseph Hudson, has passed away suddenly from an as-yet undiagnosed medical issue. NWA fans would know him as Jocephus as well as The Question Mark; where thanks to the great fans at GPB Studios in Atlanta, Joseph was able to receive the kind of support in the ring he’d always dreamt of. He is survived by a young son whom he loved dearly, and if anything would pain him about leaving this Earth it would be not being able to be there for his boy. RIP Joseph, love to you and Godspeed.

  24. Interesting idea - even if it's definitely not something I plan on putting that much time into watching. I wasn't sure if this should have gone in the Comments thread or started a new one but I decided the latter for two reasons: 1) They are going for a world record (is there even one?) 2) They are raising money via IndieGoGo where all proceeds go to the performers themselves. So far $30k has been raised. The link is here

I'm breaking this off from a discussion in the WWE Network thread about Goldberg, but I'll reiterate that I think they are a bad idea. Everybody has to lose eventually, and it's one thing to have a hot streak but to come in from the cold and stay entirely without a L could mean disaster. The one guy who comes to mind for me is Tatanka. He was a mildly popular babyface in 92 and 93, and had some decent matches, and was made on this undefeated streak. They never went anywhere with it until Yokozuna squashed him and he was replaced by The Undertaker at the Survivor Series. When he came back, he steadily went down the card, except for a mildly interesting heel turn and feud w…
