Kind of a pseudo-ripoff as a concept, but still thought it would be fun. I decided to make a thread for this, so Gordi, if you'd like, feel free to post your stuff you posted in Match Discussion here. Also, anyone else who has picked up the set and wants to talk about it, please feel free to post. So, let's get started. I'm watching these matches slightly out of order due to time management issues. First, let's post the full match list. El Hijo del Santo & La Mascara v Blue Panther & Tarzan Boy - CMLL 01/01/2006 What an awesome way to start this thing. Blue Panther and Santo are in first of course. Would you expect anything but? They do their typically great matwork exchanges with each other, as I realize they're probabl…

WWE is releasing a Four Horsemen DVD later this year. What do you think has to be included on something like this? Strangely enough, when they've shown clips of Bash '87 on Confidential in the past, it's letterboxed and looks to be about 4th generation, and in awful shape. The first War Games seems like a gimme, but their copy may be in horrible shape, which is funny considering that Bash '87 is probably the easiest old Crockett commercial release to find in great VQ. Anyway, I do think they should stop with the Windham version of the Horsemen, but I have a feeling they'll focus on the Roma/Benoit versions more than they deserve, especially the Benoit version be…

ROH is 3 weeks away from its Japanese tour and four months into the majorly hyped (via Gabe "HAY DAVE HEARS ALL MY B00KING 2 PRINT" Sapolsky) Takeshi Morishima title reign, yet there's much, much less talk about the promotion lately. TNA just came off their 5th anniversary show, and there's less and less discussion about them than ever before. People have even tired of making fun of them. One can blame the loss of Aries, Cabana, Homicide, and Joe on ROH being less hyped than before, but with the big events going on it's still surprising and I can't really figure out why the Japanese shows aren't being talked up much. Even if Joe's departure threw a major monke…

So, according to the WON, Matt and Jeff Hardy are both about to get pretty big singles pushes. Jeff will most likely be given kind of a prankster gimmick in a way of working him into the Jackass angle for Summerslam. Matt is going to continue going over midcarders on Smackdown, and holding his own with main eventers while ultimately losing in the end but staying protected. The Matt Hardy thing doesn't sound like a major push on paper, but he's good enough in the ring to make the most of it. He's been on quite the roll this year, and I'm glad WWE has noticed. Both are guys that WWE has had to change long-term plans for many times in the past because they end up gettin…

The insistence on YELLING AT US all the time. The insistence on YELLING AT US what the wrestlers just said in their promos all the time. "OOH, THAT WAS STIFF!" The tuxedo. This. As my friend SLL put it: He was okay on color in WCW. WCW went out of business 6 years ago. He has been increasingly awful since then. Let the idea that he's any good go away.

Again, I'll start a new thread every month for 24/7 talk so it's easier to follow. Also, if there's something on 24/7 that you think deserves its own thread, feel free to start one.

I was hesitant to start this, because sometimes people have a tendency to post things here that really do deserve a thread, but I'm going to start it now. I just ask that if you really think something does deserve a thread, make a thread for it. Also, I'm going to open a new one every month so someone can easily read from the beginning instead of having to wade through 100 pages to catch up.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/27/us/27wre...and&emc=rss The main points: - The case has been moved up from Fayetteville county office to the State level, so disgregard anything about Dr. Mowell. - Chris Nowinski didn't talk to to the ME's office personally, the doctor who works with him did. - They will have the samples of various parts of the brain, so no worry about it being destroyed soon. - We should wait until tomorrow morning as Chris Nowinski is trying to get it done through normal channels. - If nothing has happened by then, we should start doing what we can. - It might not be the best idea to directly contact the state's coroner, so they don't…

From the WO PPV preview: Benoit ended up not making the show, so lets hope wildpeg didn't lock Nancy in a closet and greet Chris at the door with one of her dresses on.

So, it's been reported for a few months now that Flair is finishing up and will most likely have his last match at Wrestlemania 24 in Orlando. Orlando isn't the best place to retire Flair with Charlotte, Greensboro and Atlanta all right there, but it's better than trying to finish him up somewhere in the Northeast. Considering this and how much time they have to plan it, what type of sendoff do you think he should get? This is the first time I can ever recall Flair wanting to retire. I figured he'd be wrestling until he died. He's obviously a shell of his former self, but wrestling without him around at all will seem pretty strange, if he indeed can stay away. …

I was having an e-mail conversation with J.D. Dunn concerning The Black Scorpion, specifically his comment that Al Perez was supposed to be the Scorpion. I'd always heard it was Perez on the first night, but was supposed to be The Angel Of Death, which he said made sense since AOD was part of Power Team USA with Sting and Warrior. This got me thinking, who was the fourth member of the group and did they do anything notable in the business?

Reading in the WON how the plans for succession in WWE after Vince are to depict Steph and Shane to be equal co-owners, but Shane would be more of a figurehead who would be the one who would talk to the public. After the latest victory over her brother with the website (Shane thought it was stupid to keep kayfabe and get beat out on real stories by NOOZ sites), it's pretty much finalized now that she's going to be the new Vince both in temperament and total control of the company. It's funny how the kids seemingly will end up assuming the roles of the parent they seem to take after. Also, all the talk of a post-Vince WWE made me wonder what the first episode of RAW a…

Meltzer's Update today: Notice how he said for much of 2007. I take that as he sees this as a somewhat long term hot period for the company with it not just being attributed to football ending and it being the always successful road to Wrestlemania push. WWE really hasn't made any drastic changes to the core of the product or how they present their product. So why do you think all of a sudden the company is on a hot streak, and a potentially sustained one at that?

You know how 24/7 has factoids that pop up during their show about whoever is in the ring at the time? Well, knowing the guys WWE hates and how everything seems to have a certain WWE agenda, Bix and I came up with a few potential future factoids that we thought were funny. Anyone who wants to add can feel free to do so. Randy Savage would lock Elizabeth in a closet. Lex Luger is famous for the murder of Elizabeth. Bruno Sammartino and Bret Hart have been paid by a pedophile to do 'shoot' interviews where they insult the people who made them millionaires. The Ultimate Warior is rumored to have been a gay prostitute prior to starting his career in sports…

It was last night. I followed the results online and found occasional streaming, but didn't get to really watch the show. MITB, Undertaker/Batista and Michaels/Cena seem to be getting a lot of praise, and MVP is also getting a lot of praise for keeping up with Benoit on the mat, which shocked everyone. The one thing I really had to see as it was happening -- Vince freaking out and getting his head shaved -- I got to see through the streaming I was watching at the time, and Vince didn't disappoint there. From all feedback, it appears to have been a good big show where everyone worked hard, and it also looks like most of the finishes were right on the money as well. …

04/28/86 Tully Blanchard vs. Ron Garvin Aired: 05/03/86 For people who liked the Garvin vs. Valentine on the DVDVR 80s WWF set, this and the 12/85 Flair vs. Garvin (from 12/28/85 World Championship Wrestling) are the True Shit. The Flair-Garvin bring the "hate" and "intensity" that Garvin-Valentine can only dream of in its wildest wet dream. In fact, it's rare in his career that Flair got this intense, but he seemed inspired by Garvin's intensity. It's far more of a "fight" feel than Garvin-Valentine. Eve when Ronnie whips out the headscissor take downs, it's almost like he's dropping Ric on his head when taking him over. Tully vs. Garvin is an epic, even …

I was wondering something today, the kind of thought that only pops into your head while you are standing outside with your dog waiting for her to decide if she's going to answer nature's call or hit the snooze alarm. Most of us are about the same age, and as such, a lot of us either already have kids or are in a position in life where kids could become a possiblity. What are you going to tell them about wrestling? I'm assuming any kids that would have us as a parent would be around wrestling, even if it's DVDs of old 80s territory stuff. I remember back to when I was growing up in the 80s, watching wrestling with my grandfather. I don't think I was ever specifically…

I can't vouch for this since I don't have the WON, but apparently, there are plans to try to make the women less slutty and more classy, and the women will now be wearing less revealing clothing. They are currently working with an image consultant who is giving them advice on how to present themselves on camera. Vince also wants to make WWE much more basic and wrestling-oriented, and thinks the way they can attract high-dollar advertisers at this point is to try to clean up their image. This would explain some of the things we've seen on TV lately, but I can't say I'm still not surprised. I'm just skeptical that this new approach is going to last very long.

I'm in the early stages of creating some DVD histories for most of the major promotions, and I'm wondering if someone can tell me what some of the major era-defining angles were for this company in this time period so I can attempt to track them down. Obviously, the matches featuring title changes from Bruno to Koloff, Bruno to Graham and the early days of the Backlund era are what is talked about the most, but what are some of the other big angles and big matches during this decade that no WW/W/F/E history would be complete without? This is part of a massive goal I have to do an in-depth DVD history of the company from the earliest available footage to the present, cover…
