The NWA weekly PPV starts tonight. It is my is my understanding that Billy Corgan is not directly involved with the show . This is a David Marquez show, with Nick Aldis and Aaron Stevens handling the booking duties. Anyone going to watch ? I am on the fence .

  3. This is the ballot I submitted for the 2020 GME edition. In case anyone is interested, I wrote a brief review for each match (https://gweproject.freeforums.net/thread/1982/microstatistics-2019-chronological-top-100), focusing more on narrative points than anything so as to capture the essence of these matches. 1. Kenta Kobashi/Mitsuharu Misawa vs. Akira Taue/Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW, 6/9/1995) 2. Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind (WWF, 9/22/1996) 3. Kiyoshi Tamura vs. Volk Han (RINGS, 9/26/1997) 4. Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs. Nobuhiko Takada (UWF, 10/25/1990) 5. Jushin Liger vs. El Samurai (NJPW, 4/30/1992) 6. Bret Hart vs. Owen Hart (WWF, 3/20/1994) 7…

After being on the fence for a while, I decided to submit a ballot for this year's GME project. There's a good chance I'll be the only vote for at least half of these matches, but hopefully it'll help some people discover something new. I used my rankings from my rewatching project as my starting point. I then reviewed the matches whose rankings struck me as incongruously high or low and adjusted accordingly. There are some takes in the rewatching thread that I wouldn't necessarily stand by now, so I created a separate thread to avoid confusing the issue. Plus, everybody else seems to be creating threads for their ballots, so here I am. Spoiler 1. Mitsu…

https://www.rohwrestling.com/news/roh-mourns-passing-former-world-champion-xavier So sad that he was going to get another shot in ROH at the Past vs Present show that was cancelled right as COVID hit. He'd been looking for that shot for a while - I'd actually met him at one of the Hammerstein shows a few years back in the crowd, as he was there trying to get back in. Glad I got to meet him and tell him how much his work had meant to me. I probably can't overstate what his ladder match with Low Ki in the Elks Lodge did for my fandom - it took me from someone who was there that night to see ECW guys to someone who was deeply into the independent scene for a number…

So I'm submitting a ballot this year and as of now my top 100 looks like this. I'm going to go over it a few more times in the next few days before submitting. 1) Kobashi & Kikuchi vs Kroffat & Furnas (AJPW - 5/25/1992) 2) Kawada/Taue vs Kobashi/Misawa (AJPW - 6/9/1995) 3) Bret Hart vs Steve Austin (WWF - 3/23/1997) Submission 4) MItsuharu Misawa vs Toshiaki Kawada (AJPW - 6/3/1994) 5) Ric Flair vs Ricky Steamboat (WCW - 4/2/1989) 2/3 Falls 6) Katsuyori Shibata vs Kazuchika Okada (NJPW - 4/9/2017) 7) Atlantis vs Villano III (Mask vs Mask - EMLL - 3/17/2000) 8) Terry & Dory Funk Jr vs Abdullah/Sheik (AJPW - 7/15/19…

I'm gutted by this news. He was a childhood favorite. Looks like it was Covid-related. From Crimson Mask on the WrestlingClassics forum: "Word has come down from JD McKay via Porkchop Cash via King Cobra. After the diabetes and all it was the Covid that got him. Went in the hospital 3 days ago and never came out." Steel Cage Match: Kamala vs. Andre the Giant - October 21, 1984 (Maple Leaf Gardens) Kamala's final WWE match: Kamala vs. Umaga - June 26th, 2006 (WWE Raw) UPDATE: Okay, folks, I found some real hidden gems. Kamala vs. ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson (Daniel Bryan) - September 30, 2006 (Liberty St…

I've seen it said (around here and other places) that the greatest calendar year ever by a worker was Billy Robinson from December 1975 to December 1976. Its truly a great run- multiple world title matches in Florida vs Funk, multiple NWA Florida championship matches against Brisco, a 5 month reign as Southern Champion, and time limit draws in Japan against Jumbo, Inoki, and Dick Murdoch, and a GME candidate vs Baba. So my question for discussion is this, what wrestler(s) would you consider to have had the greatest year in wrestling?

  12. I know some of the vets here have more knowledge regarding the Eatons, Mortons, and Gibsons(es?) of the world, but at least in this century, is Cesaro the best tag worker in the world? The volume of his work with the likes of Chris Hero, Tyson Kidd, Sheamus, and even Nakamura is staggering. How does he fair, historically speaking?

Didn't realize quotation marks were a no-no in thread titles. I want to start a new one on Mitch, because I think he deserves discussing. Here's what I wrote in that first topic: I met Mitch a few times. He started up a promotion in southern Indiana promoting it as old school wrestling. I was working in news and talked my station into letting me do a story on it. He was so friendly and accommodating to me. Years later, we decide to have our living room painted. Someone at my wife’s job recommends a painter. He shows up for the estimate, and it’s Mitch! He seemed to be doing well with his painting business. I got to talk wrestling with him while he …

  16. Hi, I took the two Wrestling Observer obituary books with me on holiday last week and it reminded me how much I prefer his writing on those subjects. I'm interested in finding more like that from the last 10 years or so. Is there an index available on topics covered in each Observer anywhere? Or - aside from checking issues close to the deaths of wrestlers - does anyone have their own notations on issues that might be of interest? Thanks! @Ricky Jackson - I'm looking at you, brother!

  19. I was listening to the Gary Hart book on youtube and fascinated hearing about the ups and downs of Texas wrestling. It made me think of how the fight for number three in wrestling is usually more interesting than one and two, I think because it becomes a fight for survival. So I wondered about the different number three promotions after the WWF national expansion. I think in the pure territory days, its too difficult to determine, though people are welcome to talk about it. So I am going to try to interact with a message board for the first time in a year. I think 1985 , the AWA was number three with WCCW and Mid South nearly equal. Gary Hart said WCCW was offered …

Was wondering if any one had any information on the show loop Watts used in 83,84 and 85. Also was wondering what was his biggest towns. Some said New Orleans but from the info I have found, New Orleans looked dead as it draw just over a thousand people. Also when did Watts do his TV taping. Any other info would be helpful!

I have thoughts that I will add later but wanted to get the conversation started. What's the best lucha trios match that you've seen? What's your favorite lucha trios match?

So this got posted on YouTube yesterday, and it's the first time I ever got to see it after decades of hearing about it. From what I can tell, Kitao seems mad at something (some old sumo beef? Tenta coming in as a bigger star in his home turf?) and just decides to stop cooperating. Tenta can be clearly heard yelling at him variations of "what the fuck", but the funny part is no one is going to take him down if he doesn't want to be taken down so he just stuffs him. Kitao throws what appears to be a shoot kick at the ref to get DQ'd, and the video (that appears to be from a commercial release) stops before the part that made this really well known: Kitao got on the …

I've been thinking the past few months, who is the greatest worker of the 2000s so far? As much as we like to gripe about modern wrestling, there have been some fabulous workers so far this century. I would assume Daniel Bryan would be the run away pick. But there's also LA Park, AJ Styles, Jun Akiyama, Rey Mysterio, etc, etc, the list goes on and on. So who's your pick?
