I have a lot of fond memories of going to Chikara shows from around 2007-2013. This is sad what has happened to this company and what the people in charge may have done behind the scenes. Anybody else want to talk about this? From the Wrestling Observer Website Following accusations including both inappropriate language and misconduct with students that emerged due to the #SpeakingOut movement, Chikara founder Mike Quackenbush announced on Wednesday he is shutting down the company and resigning as head trainer of Philadelphia's Wrestle Factory. The statement read: “I have been made aware of recent allegations about myself, and people …

Hello everyone, this is something i've had on my mind for a while but never really discussed... We often talk about the "wrestling bubble" mentality, where people think wrestling's problems, quirks & trends are unique to this particular industry. We've occasionally mentioned cases where this is wrong, but one i wanted to bring up is the tendency to miss the forest for the trees when discussing creative & business trends in wrestling. For example: Wrestling fans often see the business's greater economic success in the 90s as evidence that things were done better then, but you almost never see anyone bring up how many other industries were thriving during…

After reading "My new year's revolution by Nintendo Logic", it got me in the mood to re watch some early All Japan. But the quality online varies greatly, is there somewhere which sells high quality video of All Japan matches. Hansen vs Kobashi July 29 1993 is a match I've always wanted to see in it's best quality, ever since I saw it back in the late 90's. Also does any know if the Tokyo Dome Vader vs Hansen exists uncut, as even on the NJPW network some of the beginning was edited out. Was it broadcast live at the time? Thanks for any info

Earlier today she posted what appeared to be a suicide note and pics of horribly gashed arms on Twitter, the posts got pulled and people immediately tried to reach out to her. There were friends who posted they had talked to her and she was doing as good as could be expected, but Stardom tweeted out that she passed away today at age 22. She was on a reality show in Japan, and apparently there was some things that went on there that caused fans of the show to attack her and bombard her with horrible hate filled messages on social media.

I know, obscure ass topic, but this has been bugging me lately. Anyway, I've been reading the great Andre the Giant bio by Hèrbert and Laprade and stumbled upon a bit of info that answered something I've wondered about for years: exactly which Andre the Giant vs Killer Khan match won PWI match of the year in 1981? Official online PWI records of past winners frustratingly only list the participants involved in match of the year winners, with no info on the date or place. Wikipedia for years gave the date May 2 and the location Rochester, NY for the Andre vs Khan match. However, and I've known this for years, that was a fictitious match, I believe originally invented on WWF…

Inspired by the great Cultaholic's podcast series, id figured it'll be interesting to see what matches you would all pick if you could only watch three matches to try and keep you sane on a desert island. Adding a bit of backstory on how/when/where you first saw your matches is encouraged, in true Cultaholic fashion. My picks: Kobashi/Misawa vs Kawada/Taue (AJPW 6/9/95) I'll always have fond memories of when I discovered puro about eight years back and I remember being blown away by this match in particular. My entry point into Japanese wrestling was 90's AJPW. I'd just search out Big Dave's star ratings and try to get through all his highly rated matches.…

I was was thinking about this today after watching this video about the 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde talking about it's aspects and elements that ushered in styles and methods of story telling to the American cinema that continued to have influence going forward to present day. I also was reminiscing after listening to the Between The Sheets podcast from a few weeks back about the famous Dragon Gate 6 man from 'Mania weekend in 2006 and how influential it was for the amount of exposure to a wider audience of the state of the art Dragon Gate style and how the blow away 5 star match from the first real independent group to run on 'Mania weekend in a manner that mirrors w…

I just listened to a brief podcast with Bix and Kris saying that he passed away. This really sucks. I absolutely loved his podcast and all the info that I learned about Memphis. He was so passionate and had an infectious laugh. He will be missed.

Per the WO site, it was announced he passed away April 12 at the age of 70. He was in poor health since suffering a stroke last summer. Joe was really ahead of the curve in a lot of ways, Pro Wrestling This Week was the show to watch to catch up on t he territories back in the 80s, it was like PWI but in TV form. It's also an underrated wrestling "what if" to consider what could have been if he got actual funding for the GWF instead of getting conned by a 419 scam. Joe by all accounts was a major fan and a really nice guy, probably "too nice" for the wrestling business.

Hi all, Long time lurker here, (very) part-time contributor. This thread is probably mis-placed, but in a time of global pandemic and political and economic upheaval, I've been doing some thinking, and appreciating the things I have in this life. In 36 years, I have a family including my wife and three kids that I truly adore, a decent job, and a number of great friendships. And while I have not contributed a ton to this Board, it has been a big part of my life. I find that wrestling is an interest that you can come back to in times of stress. I look back at all the times I've struggled - bad grades due to some depression junior year of college, …

Watching the Flair/Davey match from England really made me think about a few things: 1. How national TV exposure completely changed the requirements of wrestlers. Also, how long did it take the wrestling industry to figure this out? 2. Looking at AJPW, it's hard not to see their need to continually evolve. Their main market is Tokyo, competing with NJPW and these fans would have seen all the major matches. So you constantly need new blood or new ways the old blood operates to keep the fans coming. As an example: - Flair worked the NWA touring champ match with Davey for the British crowd and they ate it up. How many times would those same people need to…

Since I didn't see any discussion here for it, I wanted to make a thread about this year's Hall of Fame ballot for people who actually care about it and ballots are due on October 20th. As a joshi fan, I'm happy and surprised that Meiko Satomura is finally on the ballot and maybe opens up for other workers like Kyoko Inoue to maybe get on the ballot. Here is the ballot for people that haven't seen it. I basically took this from Steve Yohe's post Wrestling Classics.
