  1. Hey all! Being from the Philippines (to my knowledge, the only Filipino member of the board), I feel the urge to take it upon myself to discuss and review local independent wrestling. It's an incredibly young scene, pretty much in the most infant of stages. The largest promotion in the country is Philippine Wrestling Revolution (PWR) and it opened in 2013. Just this past month, a second promotion called Manila Wrestling Federation (MWF) opened as well. I'll be reviewing matches here more or less at random and it'll mostly be limited to what I can find online. Here's hoping this project turns out well and hopefully you guys pick some stuff up from this newly devel…

AAA has one of their biggest non-Triplemania branded shows tonight airing at 9pm EST on Twitch. The show will feature the blow off hair match with Big Mami vs Lady Maravilla. It's kind of odd since Maravilla wears a mask, but she usually wears an open top style mask that should allow for sufficient hair cutting if/when she loses the match (Big Mami is expected to win) The rest of the card is a lot of "stuff everyone on the card" that usually results in fun spotfests if nothing else. The card (bearing in mind AAA is the worldwide leader in "card subject to change): Dr Wagner Jr/Drago/Psycho Clown vs Blue Demon Jr/Rush/Bestia del Ring Big Mami v…

French-Canadian journeyman wrestler from the late-50s to mid-80s. Apparently he died May 25 but it's only getting out now. Had his greatest success in several southern territories in 70s working as Sgt. Jacques Goulet. Several stints in NYC, including a brief run with Karl Gotch as one half of the WWWF tag team champs in late 71/early 72. By the 80s he was a TV JTTS for Jr and later I believe an agent for many years (he was one of the many old timers who would break up brawls on TV well into the 90s). He was 86

Since leaving WWE Jon Moxley has been doing the best work of his career in AEW and New Japan. He feels rejuvenated and feels like a weight is off his shoulders. Wondering is there any other situations like this? The one that comes to mind for me is Vader after his disastrous run in WWF then killing it in All Japan.

With the decade being wrapped up I want the evaluate two of it's biggest stars, Roman Reigns & Kazuchika Okada. I want to know from the forum who was more important to the decade? You can go by any metric (Matches Quality, Drawing Power, or anything you see to help your opinion).

OK, to spread the holiday cheer, I wanted to create a positive thread for once This isn't a GOAT thread so no need to argue about who sold out more stadiums or has more 5 star matches. This is a thread for those wrestlers you are actively excited to see more matches from. If you are one of those guys who love the shootstyle, list away! If you're a joshi creeper, list the women. If you're an old school guy who hates John Cena, list the old school guys. The only thing I ask is you give a brief explanation on why they are your favorite. If you dislike someone's favorite wrestler, we have a "Wrestlers You Hate" thread. If you see a guy on a list you want to discuss in detail…

  7. ****1/4 20. Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H (WWE, 4/6/2014) A pretty special match since it tackles the implicit size bias prevalent in the WWE as well as the general perception of what a champion should look like. Injured people's hero Bryan attempts to overcome the odds against the clinical corporate man HHH. 19. The Revival vs. #DIY (WWE, 11/19/2016) Great mix of the old school tag formula(s) and modern offense with some additional twists and turns thrown in. Includes some really creative and smart spots. 18. Tetsuya Naito vs. Kenny Omega (NJPW, 8/13/2016) A competitive and hard fought bomb-fest with great knee selling and heel vs. heel vibes. …

The decade is almost over and it's really been an interesting, exciting, and transformative one for pro wrestling. There have been really high highs and some pretty low lows. Personally, at the start of the decade I was pretty uninterested in modern wrestling and I think the overall state of the business was at a low point. It seemed like it was all WWE and not much else, at least what was garnering buzz and perceived as being healthy. Slowly things began to change, with the rise of New Japan being the first spark. By mid-decade I was getting back into modern stuff, with my gateway drug being the women in NXT. As the decade ends, I'm probably more interested in new wrestl…

  10. On August 10, 1985, Mid-South held a show at the Superdome headlined by Ric Flair vs Butch Reed, and Dick Murdoch challenging the Nightmare for the North American Title. This was on a Saturday. (I checked the 1985 calendar). Their weekly TV show has the same date, assuming that their shows also aired on Saturdays. Did it usually air on Saturday mornings? Early afternoon? The problem here is that on the 8/10/85 episode on the Network, which I also have an original copy, episode 309....has a breaking news update at the end of the show with Murdoch winning the title. They showed footage of the title win. I've checked on several websites for references, s…

  11. Watched this last night. Admittedly I have not seen the other episodes so I went into the series cold by going straight to this. Funny intro, annoying voice-over guy, silly editing and overall a childish approach which I guess is appropriate. It gives the briefest overview of wrestling's popularity before settling in during the Rock & Wrestling era, and the first WWF toys. Someone referred to those big bulky things as dog toys which made me laugh. I recognized Cody Rhodes (who only has one line in the whole thing), Justin Roberts and that's it. Zack Ryder was interviewed and his collection was shown off, but his stuff didn't make the cut.

  12. Beyond Wrestling is a New England-based Independent that recently launched on a weekly TV show every Wednesday from 8pm-10pm Eastern on Independent Wrestling TV on April 3rd in Worcester, MA. I first heard of Beyond in 2014 with the rise of grapplefuck being popularized by the likes Biff Busick, Drew Gulak and Timothy Thatcher. I went to a smattering of Beyond shows all in Rhode Island. I dont know if started as a Rhode Island based promotion and moved to Worcester or what have you. I went to one of if not the last Biff Busick's shows on the independents which was a round robing amongst Busick, Gulak and Thatcher needless to say that was one of the best live shows I…

It's official. Details from the press conference here: https://www.njpw1972.com/63157 Between this and Bushiroad acquiring Stardom, it looks like they've decided they need to be aggressive because sticking with a pat hand in the current environment will doom them in the long run. Also, I think it's safe to say that any kind of NJPW/AEW partnership is officially out the window.

  18. Who's a wrestler that's both a blessing and a curse? I've gotta go with The Rock. Blessing: A once in a lifetime talent that could make anything work based on his charisma and delivery. Curse: Through no fault of his own his greatness set the template that WWE wants all of their babyfaces to go by.

Feel free to add your own memories, comments, trivia, etc. I'm going to do them in batches of 3 or 4 so that people can spend time talking about each of them. Grand Olympic Auditorium, Los Angeles, California Year opened: 1924 Capacity: 15,300 Legendary Match: Fred Blassie vs. John Tolos (9/4/70) No. of shows: 5,833 This venue was the wrestling Mecca at the heart of the old LaBell territory from the 1950s to the 1970s where Blassie was a lynchpin. Before that, however, from the 1920s to the 1940s, John Londos sold this …

Rush beat Matt Taven at Death Before Dishonor tonight, which is interesting for several reasons: Matt Taven's deal is up in less than a week and he was making cryptic comments about his next big move. Dragon Lee was there to celebrate (along with their dad Bestia del Ring) which is notable because CMLL's Anniversary Show is tonight and he's basically on punishment with them for doing BOLA without their approval.

AAA has announced some matches for the show on 9/15 at the Hulu Theater in NYC: Cain Velasquez/Psycho Clown/Brian Cage vs Taurus/Texano Jr/Rey Escorpion AAA Tag Titles: Lucha Brothers vs Santana/Ortiz AAA Women's title: Tessa Blanchard vs Taya Valkyrie Dr. Wagner Jr. vs Blue Demon More matches will be added involving Impact wrestlers. As much of a mess it's been getting this show off the ground, the card looks pretty good so far.

Not streaming live like a lot of shows, but CMLL will have it on their YouTube channel probably the next day. The card: Ultimo Guerrero, Negro Casas, Big Daddy, Cavenario, Voldador Jr, Gilbert el Bourica (aka Mil Muertes from LU), Ciber the Main Man (Cibernetico's extremely lame CMLL name) in a cage match where the last two left have a hair vs hair match. Cuatero, Forestero, Sanson vs Caristico, Mistico, Valiente for the National Trios titles Microman vs Chamuel mask vs mask with two minis Dalys vs Marcela for the CMLL Women's title Angel de Oro, Niebla Roja, Mephisto vs Euphoria, Gran Guerrero, Soberano Jr (replacing Dragon Lee) in a Rele…

I just hope he's gonna get the help he needs. https://www.pwinsider.com/ViewArticle.php?id=129559 Long story short for those who don't wanna read the article: Cass was supposed to be a surprise entrant in a battle royal at the WrestlePro event. Cass confronted Joey Janela over something and some guys had to step in. Cass later …
