I was watching some of the first season of Lucha Underground and it had me thinking about Ricky Banderas. He never held my interest anywhere he's been but when he put that mask on as Mil Muertes he jumps out at me. Curious to see if there's any other makeovers that did the same on the forum.

I’ve been really digging deeply into 80s Crockett and collecting matches and the tv. I’ve been putting together a list of matches for myself and my brother who has seen very little of it ala DVDVR 80s set style. What I wanted to pick everyone’s brains, I know the big matches has been talked to death but what smaller matches are there to really check out. For instance, I saw Ron Garvin vs Black Bart in a Loser Leaves TBS match on the WCW show on 6/8/85 and thought it was a great brawl with a weak finish. But the body of the match was great. The more I watch of Crockett, the more I love and think it might have been the best U.S. promotion in the 80s besides Mem…

Hey Guys, I was thinking and I know there are WWE Network generators that spew a random match but what if we had that for this site and for watching a match that's totally random. I'm by no means a computer whiz but I'm thinking it would take all the matches from the discussion board and put it into a generator. IDK how long that would take for the database and it to be updated as well. What are some ideas you have

What heel turns do you think were the most understandable or relatable? Have any achieved genuine pathos? A real tragic quality?

Just heard this. I'm at work, so I'll comment more later. Huge star during his peak years in the 60s and early 70s

Didn't see a dedicated thread for the series here and I wanted to start one. Full disclosure - I work for IndependentWrestling.TV and we stream Uncharted Territory. That said, this is a less a plug and more me wanting to see if people are familar with it and more importantly what people have thought of it so far. For those who don't know the show streams live every Wednesday night at 8pm on IWTV from Worcester. The shows are right around 2 hours every week and have already featured some highly praised matches featuring both well known - and much more obscure - indie wrestling talent. The shows have week-to-week angles, backstage interviews, et. That said…

Okay, this is one of the most ridiculous things. Reading Terry Funk's book, I laughed out loud when he claimed credit for getting him the part in Rocky III through his connection with Sly Stallone. Funk claims that he recommended Hogan, and Vince Sr recommended Gorilla Monsoon. Reason I laugh is because this feels like the 5th or 6th different person that has claimed credit for that deal. Another one is Bill Apter, who says he sent Stallone photos of Hogan and Billy Graham for the part. So: 1. Let's list all of the different claims on this, to find the most outlandish and improbable one. and 2. Which, if any of them, are true?

It's something I've never seen discussed much here. It was long gone by the time I became a fan and I'm a little sad I never got to experience it. But did anyone here ever get to go or were you even a regular? What are your memories and what was it like?

I want to do one of these ongoing match of the year lists this year Zack Sabre Jr. vs Tomohiro Ishii 1/4/19 NJPW I am sure tons of stuff will surpass this but I was not disappointed at all by this. Super simple story of striker vs submitter stripped down to a lean, bare, runtime. The superplex no sell was really stupid and silly but at least led to probably the most brutal spot of the match. I liked this alot.

I was wondering if anyone would like to join in and do a watch project for the Puerto Rico 80s set. What I was thinking was keeping it real simple, like one match a week. We could set up a Snack and even try to set a time when a majority of us could watch and live chat during the match. Of course discussion would stay open beyond that as well. My thinking is that it would make a fun community project that would be relatively low stress to join. I want to watch through the set but I think some varied discussion will help it not get old after awhile. If anyone is interested just let me know and I'll set it up!

Because storytelling can be overrated and actually an excuse for dreadful matches Because selling doesn't always get in a way of a good car crash Because a dive sequence with a million flips can be fun as fuck Because we all popped for a stupid, nonsensical, dumb-as-fuck matches with a zillion of great cool spots This is time to have fun with it. Yes, pro-wrestling does not have to be a Rocky movie. It can also be an orgy of incredible cool spots, insane bumps and jaw-dropping pure action sequences. There you go, you favourites of that special kind go there.

Wasn't sure if I should just put this in the "Comments That Don't Warrant a Thread" thread, but I ultimately decided that this was newsworthy enough to warrant its own thread (if it's true, that is). Footage: Quote from 2016: “But you never know, I could pop up here and there. Let me explain that to you even better. It’s not going to even be televised, it’s going to be me in a ninja f–king outfit wrestling one of my buddies and nobody’s ever going to know. It’s going to be very ‘Monty Python’ so to speak.” Confirmation? https://wrestlingnews.co/other/it-looks-like-cm-punk-returned-to-wrestling-under-a-mask-last-night/ There's suppo…

We talk a lot on WWE threads about how their entire format is stale and a hangover from the late 90s, albeit with some modern idiosyncrasies bolted on. Either way, it's very much out of date and needs shaken up if they're to garner the sort of genuine excitement about their product that can lead to a ratings turnaround. Going into this autumn, we have Smackdown debuting on Fox and there have been rumours about the network wanting a more sports focused presentation. It also seems likely that we will have another big time wrestling TV show coming onto the market courtesy of AEW. They've been very successful at using Youtube and other mediums to get their characters ove…

Al Wilson, as we all know, was involved in several memorable Smackdown segments in 2002-2003 as Dawn Marie's boyfriend while she was feuding with Al's daughter, Torrie Wilson. Say what you want about that whole storyline, but it was a hell of a lot more memorable than most of what we get now. Al certainly made the most of it, that's for sure! I really feel for Torrie in general, but especially tonight, because appearing in public and giving an HOF speech must be the last thing she wants to do right now. https://www.wwe.com/article/al-wilson-passes-away

For this week's podcast, since it is that time of year we're looking to discuss the Best and Worst WrestleMania builds ever done, looking at the run-ups to the biggest show of the year and breaking down what did and didn't work, and want to know your personal suggestions. So, with that said, when you look back over the years, what do you consider to be the best and the worst "Road to Mania" periods, with the strongest or weakest build-ups/hype jobs for Mania, and why? Select one for each, the more explanation the better, and as always the best contributions will be read on the show and discussed. So which Mania's get your vote, the ones that did or didn't work f…

My friend Luke and I used to sit front row at ROH and Chikara years ago. Some of you might recognize him. He and his family need a lot of help right now. Thanks. https://www.gofundme.com/help-luke-ferdons-recovery?fbclid=IwAR3yP4EtgNbhgAiBMk89QCCe1DEdEbIGLUrfTFj0xDrITxHdlnkNg8eU1IE

Saw that he passed away today, IMO one of the biggest "could have been a huge star" guys of his time. A former Yokozuna, he was a big star in sumo only to get kicked out for attacking the stable boss's wife which ended up being a recurring theme of his (losing jobs due to unprofessional violence). Had a brief run in New Japan where he sold out the Dome, but feuded with the booker and got fired. Tenryu brought him in, but that led to the famous semi-shoot with John Tenta because Kitao didn't want to lose to a guy who was a sumo equivalent to a midcarder. After that he went to UWFI where again there were issues, he didn't want to lose to Takada who ended up legit KO'…

Kurt Beyer 36 mins It is with a very heavy heart to let you know that Dad -- aka The Destroyer, aka Doctor X, aka Dick Beyer, aka Coach -- passed away shortly past Noon today. He was in bed at home, and was surrounded by all of his children and wife as he slipped peacefully away. I will have more to share later, but wanted you to hear this sad news from me first. Thoughts and prayers are most welcome at this time. Peace. (The Destroyer - Honoring A Wrestling Legend! The Destroyer (wrestler))
