  1. Sorry for the repeat posts, gang. 1. We really need some mod presence here. 2. We really need this annoying apostrophe glitch to be fixed. 3. 5. I'm surprised there isn't already a thread for this. If you haven't watched "Wrestlers" yet, don't hesitate. It's fantastic.

Damn, this one stings. Hashimikov was a pioneer who helped bridge the divide between the Soviet Union and the rest of the world in the realm of pro wrestling. He was very skilled in the ring as well, and always seemed to have at least a decent match with anyone. Inoki had a lot of great ideas, and a lot of bad ones, and his decision to bring in the Soviets to NJPW was one of his great ideas. RIP.

Looks interesting. I'm surprised Montreal is a topic being covered, since it's been done to death online and the Wrestling With Shadows doc stands as kind of the ultimate statement of everything that happened.

Thought we could get a topic going on this. What would you say the first one was? I'd go with either the Lawler/Funk empty arena match, or maybe Inoki vs Saito's Island Death match (which was longer than most actual movies taking place on Islands). Any other good early examples?

  16. I just wanted to drop in and let everyone know I just finished writing a book along with Doug Gilbert about his brother "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert. A lot of great insight from the brother of a man who was WAY before his time in the pro wrestling business. Anyone who was a fan of "Hot Stuff" or who wants to learn more about this life will really enjoy this. It's available to pre-order now at www.tinyurl.com/EddieGilbertBook The book will ship on May 25th! Here's the release: Thomas Edward Gilbert Jr. (August 14, 1961 - February 18, 1995) better known by his ring name "Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert, was an American professional wrestler and booker. Good chance this phrase has been thrown around in mainstream media more in one weeks time than maybe ever. The reaction from the outer circle of even the most fairweather of fans have expressed opinions on it. But I am less interested in that then what something like this means now. Around a decade ago REM broke up. It felt so weird for a big band to announce it as they did that it felt like in no such time nobody else went about it, like perhaps what happened when more and more people in America divorced their spouses. When such connection is lost, and new expectations form of what was lost in one respect engages in something new and still relatable. I wasn’t …

  21. I was really dreading this one. Already early 2025 has not been a good year for wrestling fans. Nishimura had been battling stage 4 esophageal cancer for the last year and a half, having spread to his brain and everywhere else there wasn't much of a positive prognosis. He kept battling from his IG posts though and even managed near the end to wrestle a couple of times. RIP to one of the underrated technical greats.
