His wife confirmed he passed away yesterday at the age of 90. Apparently he was still in good health recently. Without a debut the greatest swiss wrestler of all time and very important in europe. He made a big impression on Regal and helped train Cesaro. Still hoping more of his french TV work from his prime shows up. It seems Lasartesse/Duranton vs. Drapp/Vignal is no longer online... hopefully somebody saved it

After seeing the thread for wrestler and match of the year I'm wanting to get a feel of what feuds that stood out for everyone on the forum. I got LAX vs. OGz and Shayna Baszler vs. Kairi Sane.

So, for this week's podcast we're doing our third show based off the old Room 101 television show, where we're looking for you to submit one nomination for a Pay-Per-View or episode of wrestling television from any point in time that you personally wish to be banished to oblivion for good, and why you want it in Room 101. You can be as flexible with the nomination as you like - it can be for one thing that happened that pissed you off, it can be an entire show of garbage, or it can be a show that represents a part of your specific personal fandom you'd rather forget. Of course, part of the argument will be around the butterfly effect of what happens if your nominatio…

Here's a thought I had while going through the Holiday Appreciation thread and dealing with one too many work secret santas: My time is pretty limited right now between a relatively new baby, the other kids, and work. I don't have enough time to seriously follow Raw/Smackdown/etc. right now, let alone that and CMLL and indies and whatever else. I will again at some point (curated at least) but not now. I also don't have time to post things on Segunda Caida and, much to my dismay, I didn't have time to cruise through 1980s NJPW handhelds or other such things. I do have time to watch a match or two a week though, but it's hard to manage that. I know myself though; …

  6. Thinking about this I'm not sure. Everyone tends to hype the highest rated raw from May 99 but there's been a lot of good ones like the beer truck one or the corvette cemented one. No idea if the show itself was good or it's just a one hit pony segment.

Post your favorite surprise moments that were planned but a shoot to some. Slamboree '95 - During the Lengendary Hall of fame inductions, Dusty was supposed to be last...until he said there is 1 more Hall of fame induction and it's going to Gordon Solie! Gordon's face is priceless. He had tears in his eyes. Randy Poffo looked great. INOKI IS THE MAN! CODY RHODES Holds dad's trophy. RIP Big John Studd whose son accepted for his father. Warrior running out at end of WM8 was favorite moment as a kid because warrior was off T.V. prior to that for long time. Not looking for botched moments or mistakes.

New temple, looking a bit more lo-fi than the previous one. Gotta see what kind of cool style they can do with this set-up. New owner... ummm, not too sure about that. Damn, he's gonna hurt his throat speaking with that raspy voice. It's so B-movie though, so why not. This first episode really was a way to introduce a bunch of characters to a new (?) audience. Did Mariposa gained quite a bit of weight ? Did King Cuerno quit the roids cold turkey ? These two physical changes struck me. Dreamer showing up was pretty damn cool. Vamp with hair ? Catrina.... Ok, let's hope for a fun zany season again.

  12. A question for the wrestling historians around these parts. U.K. promotions in the '60s, '70s, '80s cribbed a lot of wrestler names from U.S. attractions (Blackjack Mulligan, Greg Valentine, The Legend of Doom, etc.). Is "Kendo Nagasaki" the only instance of U.S. promoters from that era swiping from a popular U.K. attraction?

  13. Hello folks, Recently got into CMLL due to some promoting of it by fans both here and on Reddit. Really starting to dig it, and I want some reading material for the bus to learn about lucha. Just some E-Books to throw on my tablet. Any recommendations?

  14. Surprised there isn't a thread about this already... https://www.sescoops.com/chris-jericho-jim-ross-barry-bloom-wrestling-promotion/ - Chris Jericho, Jim Ross, and Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shahid Khan are reportedly the ones behind this. - Super-agent Barry Bloom is said to also be involved. - "JR’s contract with WWE expires shortly and he has declined an offer to renew." - "Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks are on board, as are Hangman Page and a few others. Kenny Omega’s status is unclear." - "For what it’s worth, Bill Goldberg is a client of Barry Bloom, along with JR and Jericho." - "Sinclair Broadcasting, which provided logistical …

goodhelmet said this was fine so I decided to go ahead and make the thread. Sometimes when I watch a match I talk about here, or that someone else talks about here, I make some GIFs but it never really feels right to drop them in the reviews. So I'll just start dropping some in here and hopefully other people will want to do the same. I will come back and add a bunch tomorrow but I really just wanted to drop this one from The Nightmares vs. Tommy & Johnny Rich - Loser gets 20 Lashes match: Oh, and this is when I fell in love with Don Leo Jonathan:

So I've reached the point of my Mid Atlantic watching where the build is just starting for the first Starrcade, and I'm wondering who exactly was booking during this time. Obviously Dusty came up with the name and concept of Starrcade, but Dave has stated previously that Dory Funk Jr. was booking at the time. You can see fingerprints of both guys' styles in terms of heels offering bounties (Dory) and everyone randomly mentioning Dusty in promos, but it seems that Dory's style was more prevalent in how the main angles unfolded. I just assumed Dusty came up with the idea of a big year end show and Dory just came up with the way to get everyone to the end point. Also …

Legendary big man known for great athleticism for someone his size. Mainly forgotten to time, as he last wrestled in 1980 and there isn't a ton of footage. He was a major star 50s-70s. 20. I will be launching a new blog/site called Charting the Territories on November 1st. Below is an introductory post that explains what the site will be about, and most importantly, defines the statistic I have named SPOT. Introduction to Charting the Territories This blog is going to take a look back at pro wrestling territories in a way that hasn't been done before. There are numerous web sites, blogs, message forums and social media accounts dedicated to covering the history of professional wrestling. There are even a couple of databases with scores of information. But I want to present the information in such a way that you can look at ONE piece of…

I've been watching the Arena Mexico Friday night shows almost every week for about 6 months now and Negro Casas despite being super over never seems to have a great match or performance. He had an incredibly long of being a good wrestler, but is it finally over? Is Negro Casas finally no longer good?

  23. Now, we are closing to WON Hall of Fame 2018 season. Like last years, the Mexican group is full of a lot of contenders, like Villano III, Cien Caras, L.A.Park, Ultimo Guerrero, Blue Panther, Mistico, Karloff Legarde, Los Misioneros de la Muerte, Los Brazos. Other groups are not full of no brainer like Mexican section, but there are a lot of interesting candidates like Junkyard Dog, CM Punk, Edge, Big Daddy, Sgt. Slaughter, Goldberg, Akira Taue, Jun Akiyama, Johnny Saint, Yoshiaki Fujiwara....... How do you weight criteria? In the sense, how much important is work, for you? Does deserve more to be in a huge draw for a short time, like Goldberg, or a great w…

  24. It dawned on me when Bray Wyatt called out Matt Hardy on twitter that his plagiarism and subsequent tweets made me care about him more than anything he had done for years. But more importantly it made me think of a bigger point. I imagine the current world would have been a nightmare for many promoters 30/40 years ago. The internet doesn't forget. Every bad gimmick and mistake they've made is name preserved forever. But it turns out wrestling fans aren't such huge douchebags after all and are willing to give wrestlers another chance even with their previous misses not forgotten-like Husky Harris. But it's more than that that we are willing to forget and ignore. Remember P…

  25. AAA announced the four participants in the main event mask match for Triplemania: Psycho Clown, Hijo del Fantasma, Pentagon Jr., and....... LA Park! Not the AAA La Parka, the actual OG LA Park who is also feuding with Rush in CMLL which everyone assumes is leading to a mask/hair match at the 85th Anniversary show. According to Park it's still on for CMLL, and if he loses the Triplemania match it will be hair vs hair. Also Rey Fenix (and probably Penta) are going to be making apperances at Arena Mexico for CMLL while also appearing for AAA. Literally everything that was always considered impossible in lucha pretty much since the day AAA was born all seem…
