  2. I would have liked to have seen a guy lose a haircut match, but eventually come around to the idea that he looks better bald. I think Bobby Heenan should have won at least one weasel suit match. Preferably against the Ultimate Warrior.

Good morning. I usually open this kind of poll on wrestlingclassics, and I compare the historical importance of wrestlers. How much important is the criteria "historical importance" in judging the career of a wrestler and his hall of fame status? Is it more important than "drawing power"? First of all I want to ask you what do you think about "fame" and"popularity". For example, probably wrestlers like Batista and Randy Orton are way more popular and more known by people than wrestlers like Daniel Bryan and AJ Styles, because they were on top for longer and they were main eventer in more popular periods for pro wrestling. But does that mean that Orton an…

Hello all, long time semi-lurker, first time topic starter, hope it's in the right place. Earlier today I noticed Meltzer was asked if there are big men like Vader or Bruiser Brody that New Japan could add to their roster. His answer is nobody like that is around right now, except maybe Brock. I suggested WALTER as someone who is at least Vader-esque, and was told he's not like them at all. Anyway, I started this thread not so much because I thought that was weird, but rather to ask who are your favorite big men working right now, and if you think there are any good enough to step into that role. Besides WALTER, I'm fond of Shuji Ishikawa, Joe Doering, Brody Kin…

I've got some Gordy Lists from over the years saved on my computer. I figured with WON HOF season around the corner it might be good to have a thread where we collect all the Gordy Lists we come across so they're all in one place. I've got old ones, new ones, lists for people already in the hall, peope on the ballot and people not on the ballot. If you feel like writing one up or are aware of any more, please post them here! We've talked about PWI memories now lets remember the "official" publication of the World Wrestling Federation I had a subscription from around 1988 until 2004 or so( yes until I was around 25). Loved this magazine as a kid and would read it from cover to cover. oddly enough I think I enjoyed it the most during the horrific new generation years with stuff like "advice for the lovelorn with Shawn Michaels and Alundra Blayze, Scoop Sullivan, letters to the editor, the insider and all the video game stuff. For awhile our local cable wasn't offering WWF PPVs and I would go over all the results in the magazine.and lock them to memory including who pinned who they w…

  9. Started by AstroBoy,

Clearly we all watch a ton of wrestling here, but I get the feeling that most of us don't just aimlessly watch matches and shows with no larger picture in mind. Seems like most people enjoy diving into certain styles, wrestling, eras, etc. . . in big chunks and working from a more holistic place, so let's hear it. For those of you who are working on some kind of larger project or watching wrestling from a certain perspective right now, I'd love to hear about it. I know there was talk some months back about groups of us doing more focused sort of side projects about concrete groups or time periods. Personally, besides keeping up with some modern WWE stuff, I am mo…

  11. First of all sorry for my english, I'm Italian. In italian wrestling forums most of the users consider the historical importance and the charisma the two only criteria to judge the greatness of a wrestler. They do not give much importance to in-ring skills. In 2008 we had a tournament to choose the greatest wrestler of all time, and the winner was Hulk Hogan. Even for judging matches the criteria were historical importance, build-up and atmosphere. In the tournament we have done the same year to choose the greatest match, the final ranking was: 1) Hulk Hogan vs Ultimate Warrior Wrestlemania VI 2) Bret Hart vs Stone Cold Wrestlemania XIII 3) Hulk Hogan…

This was the first show that I got to watch Japanese Pro Wrestling online way back in the early 2000's and the first time I got to see Japanese wrestlers outside of when they'd come to North American promotions. They covered all sorts of Japanese matches and promotions from the eighties to the early 00's. This show to me was great for getting a variety of cool matches you heard about and people traded tapes for along with some english commentary to help you fill in the story lines and who each wrestler was and their background. I had forgotten all about this show until I recently came across their youtube channel(seems to be abandoned). I also found their old website and …

  17. This is something I've been thinking about a lot lately. I feel like we are living in a golden age for wrestling fans. Thanks in large part to technology and just the way the business has gone there is more wrestling available to us as a lower price point than ever before. In a given week, I'm able to watch weekly television from WWE, NXT, NJPW, ROH, CWF, OVW, MLW, CMLL, AAA, Lucha Underground, IWRG, and Impact. We are able to follow the G1 Climax and the Rush vs Park feud in real time. That is every single week, without trading for tapes or DVDs. When I was 13 years old ECW Hardcore TV and NWA Wildside got picked up in my area, I thought I'd hit the holy grail. Back when…

So as backstory, someone asked Dave on Twitter if he felt ROH could draw 10,000 for a show. Dave replied probably not, and Cody Rhodes saw that and took as a challenge. He and the Young Bucks announced they plan to promote a show aimed to be the first non WWE show to have a crowd over 10,000 in the US since WCW died. Clearly as over as the Bullet Club is, they can probably pop the largest non WWE crowd in a while...but 10,000 sounds like a pretty ambitious goal unless they were able to get New Japan to send some big names. My other thought is I wonder if Cody and Daniel Bryan have something worked out. They've been working a program on Twitter for a while, Bryan…

So I know discussion about Punk's fight is going to end up getting posted somewhere on the board might as well just make an official topic for it and keep it here. I'm not ordering the fight cuz that shit is expensive and I can just catch the CM Punk KO gif on twitter but I'm sure there are at least a few people who post here that are going to buy the PPV.

  21. Started by Yo-Yo's Roomie,

I was watching Hell in a Cell 2016 last night, and it got me thinking about the development of the gimmick match in wrestling. What struck me first of all as I was watching the Reigns/Rusev cell match from that show is that, not only was that match not as good as their straight match from the previous ppv (although I enjoyed it), but I also went in with the expectation that it wouldn't be. Which is kind of strange since you would think the feud-ending gimmick match could be reasonably expected to top a straight match. Part of it is that I just think WWE is poor at booking gimmick matches (I should also mention here that I think Sasha and Charlotte had an all-time great ce…

  23. So somehow I've pulled off the task of getting to pick Jerry Jarrett's mind once a week for an hour for a podcast. To me, outside of Vince McMahon, I don't know who alive has more interesting stories to tell than Jerry. This board is the smartest one on the internet - please, feel free, just start firing questions or topics at me here. Everything is on the table. I'm as fascinated by wrestling history as everyone else here. I've watched almost the whole year of 1979 WWF TV from the Network by god. We plan on picking a general topic from Memphis ever week and going into depth on it. https://twitter.com/JerryJarrett/status/995766600149200898 https://twitter.com/…

Looking at the stars of wrestling today, I'm struck by how few young wrestlers there are at a high level. (Speaking male wrestlers here. Female wrestling sees far more turnover.) WWE still has only one male aged 28 or younger on their main roster, Bo Dallas. As a test, the first WWF Pay Per View I watched, Survivor Series 1990, had six wrestlers out of 40 younger than 28. Either the industry has a dearth of young wrestlers or more likely, they aren't being pushed by WWE. So who are the best of the next generation currently floating around the Indies, Mexico, Japan, etc.?
