So how has your personal taste in wrestling changed? As we get older it seems our taste or interests in everything sort of grows up as well. How has this affected the wrestling you watch, the way you watch it, and the styles, promotions or workers you prefer?

Saw this on Twitter this morning. I really dug his match against Pillman @ Wrestle War 92 & his tag stuff with Martel in AJPW.

Sorry if I'm ruining the plans of someone who was going to post an actual award process for PWO. Going to come back to this later but I think AAW and wXw would be my front runners for this. Good business. Good wrestling. Expanded their efforts in 2017. Both have big finales coming up.

  4. This is a something I’ve meant to write for quite some time but, never got around to it. With the end of the PWO-GWE project and a recent post by Dylan Hales I knew it was time for it at least to show that there is a place for the conversation. What is truly a “Feminist” stance on a woman place in pro-wrestling and what is a “proper” inter-gender match? (Not to be confused with trans-gender gimmicks something I’m stuff not even sure about) There has been an argument among everyone involved with wrestling including fans, workers, promoters, journalists, and even outsiders about the place of women in the wrestling world. As some might believe old timers saw them only as…

There have to have been hundreds of threads of finishers where people named moves they thought looked cool, let's try something a little different here. What is the value of finishers in wrestling? Ideally they're memorable big moves you quickly associate with a wrestler making them easily marketable. There is a precedent to them in action movies and real combat sports. But is the amount to which wrestlers stick to them as the only means of finishing the match detrimental to the quality of most wrestling matches? would have to answer with yes there. It's true that are are countless ways you could finish your matches with whatever your finisher may be without it detriment…

Now that I've gotten a WWE Network subscription, I was wondering what everyone's favorite periods of weekly television are. A time when you thought that week to week, every show was just strong and must-see. I'm currently checking out the post-SummerSlam 2002 editions of Smackdown and outside of some ridiculous crap (Billy and Chuck, anyone?), the product was just incredibly strong week to week.

Been trying to find a list of these matches that would qualify and would welcome suggestions. I just had the urge to watch the King of the Road match from Uncensored 1995 and made me think of getting a list together.

Just got my ballot, here it is in full. ----------------------------------- It's time for the 2017 Hall of Fame elections. This ballot is being sent out to major wrestling stars, past and present, major management figures in the industry, writers and historians. If you are getting this, you are being asked your opinion on who should be inducted into this year's Hall of Fame class. The criteria for the Hall of Fame is a combination of drawing power, being a great in-ring performer or excelling in ones field in pro wrestling, as well as having historical significance in a positive manner. A candidate should either have something to offer in all th…

After a couple of weeks of impassioned debate, we're taking a lighter route for this week's podcast, and want to talk about some of the classic feuds in wrestling history, so the question I wish to pose to you is simple – personally, what is your all-time favourite feud, and more importantly, why? Be it a forgotten gem or a renowned classic, feel free to detail what about it you loved that makes it stand out of the pack, and as always, we'll be reading the best feedback on the show and crediting your fine selves. I’m eager to see the variety in different people’s tastes for this when you have to whittle it down to personal favourite…

  10. Yesterday I saw one of the usual arguments on twitter about "casual fans" and how dumb they all must be to only watch WWE or be Roman Reigns fans. At this point following WWE requires, at the bare minimum, 5 hours of weekly television watching. There really isn't anything "casual" about the fandom of someone who devotes 5 hours a week to watching wrestling. If you add in PPVs, 205 Live, NXT, Talking Smack etc the number only goes higher. Isn't it time to pretty much retire the term "casual fan" for someone who watches Raw and Smackdown every week? How much time does someone have to devote to watching wrestling every week before they can stop being looked down on?

They started with WWN Live which for 20 a month (or 12.75 a month if you buy a whole year at once) is better than buying individual EVOLVE shows. Of course you get SHINE and WWN Super Shows plus archives. I was debating on getting this, but today they added BEYOND and PWX! So I'm all in. Currently watching SHINE and the stream has been away better than EVOLVE's past ones. The first promo was buffering and the 3rd match buffered through, but everything else has been perfect. Plus I can watch on Roku, which is great. You can call me FloSteven, I'm in. I got the year deal, I do hope they add CMLL as rumoured or even ROH.

  13. Started by Hegs,

I just listened to JJ Dillon's podcast about Flair and Hogan in WWF. His take was it underperformed and that they didn't have great chemistry in the ring. What's the consensus? Bad chemistry bad booking or both? I don't think that Vince knew what to do with Flair other than the Royal Rumble win. He could have kept belt on Flair at Wrestlemania and slowly built to a big Hogan Flair match at the following Wrestlemania. I didn't necessarily think they had bad matches from what I saw from MSG. The WCW matches were too lopsided to be beyond average.

I wrote this a few years ago, didn't post it anywhere, and figure it could lead to some interesting discussion. ------------- There are many aspects of professional wrestling that keep me locked in as a fan, even during the down times in the creative and business ends in the US, Mexico, and Japan. The addition of the WWE Network, NWA Classics, and the continued evolution of wrestling shows and compilations being readily available on DVD and for direct download have kept my fandom as strong as ever. In 2015, there is a small group of fans who have coined the phrase grapplefuck, a term that tries to encapsulate modern day mat work that is performed by Timothy T…

I imagine that this topic comes up on every wrestling message board in existence, but I haven't seen it here, so... What's the best year a wrestler's ever had, from an in-ring performance standpoint? Baseball fans always talk about those magical years, like Ted Williams' 1941 and Bob Gibson's 1968. What are the wrestling equivalents? Because wrestling's years aren't individual, separate entities like sports seasons are, you can be even more specific with your endpoints if you want. It's just that "the 365 days from December 28, 1996 through December 27, 1997, for Sting" doesn't pack the punch that "Sting's 1997" does, to use one example.

But I'm watching 88 AJPW now and thinking about the level Jumbo worked at from 88-92 and trying to think of better peaks in wrestling history. Obvious possibilities that come to mind: Negro Casas - 93-97 (just because it's what we have on tape) Any of the AJPW guys from 90-96ish Any couple of years you want to take from Flair in the 80s Tenryu 88-93 Lawler 79-84 Let's throw in a modern one - Bryan Danielson 2004-2008 Underrated possibility: Bobby Eaton 83-88 Obviously tons of other options too, Fujinami, Satanico, etc - what's your favorite couple year peak from…

I am almost certain that in 2001 or perhaps 2002, I saw a match somewhere in New Jersey, Lowki vs Trent Acid in a steel cage. Did this really happen? I have never been able to find anything about it anywhere. JCW perhaps? Maybe it was Ki against Billy Reil or Reckless Youth? But it was definitely a steel cage match

  21. So, for this week's podcast, we're looking to talk about guys, girls, teams, acts, whatever it may be anywhere in the wrestling world, that at one time you held in very low regard, but they somehow managed to make you come around and become a fan of their work. We'd like your nomination for the ONE act that stands out the most in that sense for you, why you originally disliked them, and what it was that changed your perspective. As always, the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly - so what's your vote? EDIT - The show talking Guys You Turned The Corner On, discussing your nominations, is now available at the following link: …

I figure this topic may produce some interesting discussion on this board. It's also a nice change from the usual "Who/what is the greatest xy" topic. What is a boy, you ask? Here's the definition from OSW: My boys: - Masayoshi Motegi - I am unsure if he was actually untalented, but given that he more often than not is trying very hard rather than being good, I'd say he qualifies. Guy who has a reputation for dropping out of the J-Cup 1st round in weird matches where he usually fucks something up, pudgy indy wrestler who blades in every match and takes stupid bumps while never achieving any success or recognition at all... Motegi was a boy for life. He…

  23. So a couple friends and I have been talking about trying to figure out a way to do a Fantasy Sports style pro-wrestling draft. With the idea being that it's like Fantasy Football in that you have a pool of talent, you pick wrestlers from the designated era (for us it's 1988-1994 United States) and then you compare lists/ideas. There's a few different ways to approach it. You can take the big stars, like Hogan, and use the idea of drawing money. You can take the best workers, and just try to have great matches. Or you can take perhaps underutilized guys with the idea of doing better with them or guys that you know later became bigger stars (like Austin). Or you could …

  24. Here's something I wrote in the VOW forums I'd like to share with you April 25th, 2015, my first day stepping foot inside the World Famous Monster Factory. To be honest, I was falling out of love with wrestling at this point of my life. I was doing a “This Week In Wrestling” type show called “Get in the Ring” at Montgomery County Community College and wasn’t getting the results I wanted. Trying to hard would be an understatement on what I was trying to do to get listeners. At the time, Montco Radio, the college’s internet radio station, had another show called Completely Damaged Radio with Cameron “RC” Hall, Matt Porter, and Fearon Derry; they would have guests from t…

I'm curious as to everyone's pick as to the earliest all-time great match that transcends eras. Speaking personally, the earliest match I'd unequivocally go to bat for is Giant Baba vs. Billy Robinson on 7/24/76. There are a few 60s and 70s matches I'd like to re-explore, though.
