Not sure how to better title this thread but it'll do. Tomorrow begins October which has always been my favorite month and Halloween my favorite holiday. I usually reserve the month for various horror films and TV shows. I also thought it'd be a fun topic to wonder what wrestling matches, moments and promos that would fit the mood? I figured various matches from Halloween Havoc would fit such as Steiners vs Doom, Steiners vs Nasty Boys, Chambers of Horror Match, Vader vs Cactus Jack, the debut of the Yeti, Eddy vs Rey, etc. The first thing that came to mind was the Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels Hell in a Cell match from IYH: Badd Blood.

  3. In the WON Daily Update for Monday, OCT 23, 2017, it mentioned a wrestling promotion called BRAWL (Bloody Rage American Wrestling League). Does anybody out there have any contact information for this group? I googled them but did not see an address for getting in touch with them. I ask because in my wrestling fiction OUT OF TEXAS book series, available at Amazon and at Smashwords, I also write about a wrestling promotion called BRAWL (Brazos River Area Wrestling League). It first appeared in my now out-of-print book REMEMBER THE ALOE, MOE, originally published by iUniverse, Inc, 2007, ISBN 9780595441242. I later reworked that book into OUT OF TEXAS 4 : JOSIE AND THE…

Johnny "Rubberman" walker began wrestling in 1956 and was pretty much a journeyman heel wrestler around the Southern territories throughout throughout the late 60's and would even get NWA World Heavyweight Title shots against the likes of Lou Thesz but when he donned a mask as The Grappler in Florida in 1971 that would begin a new era of his life. The Grappler gimmick in Florida was successful as he feuded with big names like Ole Anderson, Bobby Duncum, Dick Murdoch, along with getting NWA Heavyweight Title shots against Dory Funk Jr. but there were bigger plans for him in the future. Walker had basically semi-retired in 1972 and was running a gas station outside of Atlan…

  10. An upcoming episode of my podcast is going to introduce Continental Championship Wrestling from the late 70's to its end (I guess the Fuller years). I don't know much about this territory so I'm going to have to do tons of reading, but in the meantime, if you had to pick, say 70-80 minutes of footage, what would you guys suggest? Doesn't have to be the best of the best, but I do want to go for a sampler of big angles, a good match, famous angles and promos, etc. Any help is very much appreciated!

  11. So I watched a bunch of Asuka matches on a flight this morning, but I wanted to write some reviews. But I didn't take notes so I used 411mania reviews to jog my memory. I got to the reviews of Asuka vs Emma Takeover match which I loved especially the finish stretch. I thought the ref bump, belt being thrown in and Dana distraction added a ton of drama down the stretch. Really elevated Asuka and was wicked enjoyable. But yet two reviews on the site cited that "the match didn't need the gaga" and that overbooked finish hurt the match. Um if Asuka just submitted her instead of Emma backing her into the ref, how the hell would that have been better. It would have been a h…

  12. The following is an ROH revisiting project that I started in the spring of 2012. For those of you who haven't seen any of these reviews on the Observer, ROH World, Freakin' Awesome Network, Craphole, Voices of Wrestling, and Wrestling Forum communities, behold and enjoy! There will be no pattern to how I review matches. Some could be rants, some could be quick blurbs, some could be ten page essays. They will be reviews only of matches, promos, and videos that interest me though (largely just the good shit.) Reviews may include spoilers for those who haven't watched retro ROH. What are some practical, real-world things that wrestling taught you that you still find useful now? I learned a lot about geography from watching wrestling. By the time I was 8, I knew 4 cities in Tennessee, and a bunch of Japanese cities that I wouldn't have heard of, otherwise. I learned subtle differences in regional American cultures and accents too. To this day, I have a much better grasp of American geography than a lot of people I know, especially considering that I don't travel very much.

  14. From PWInsider.com: "Smashing Pumpkins front man and former TNA Wrestling President Billy Corgan has agreed in principle to purchase the National Wrestling Alliance, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources. The deal in place would see Corgan purchase the name, rights, trademarks to the NWA as well as the rights and possession of the NWA championship belt." Nothing about the NWA Classics on Demand footage, which I think Corgan would be crazy not to buy, but I don't know if that's separate from the actual NWA or what. If the NWA Classics footage isn't included, I'm not really seeing anything tangible that Corgan would get out of this - other than the no…

Branching off from the Dave Meltzer thread here, I'd like to entertain the idea of gathering a "critical consensus" for star ratings. There are plenty of voices beyond Big Dave on the web, but I'm not sure there are enough who provide consistent reviews to make this feasible. Use this thread to play around with the concept and let's gather some influential names who would be worthy of inclusion.

  18. I love visiting and reading this board and all the knowledgeable discussion and was wondering with all the insight as fans and researchers that lots of members give have any of you tried or went through a wrestling camp or school and any actually work some matches? - If so do you feel it changed your ability to just watch as a pure fan? and why did you stop pursuing wrestling it if you no longer do it? - Also for those that haven't tried it what were your reasons not to? and do you think that someone who has trained will always see matches from a different perspective than yourselves and judge it with different values? This isn't about bragging or dumping on …

  21. I'm starting a new monthly thread series here on PWO where every month we will focus on a different gimmick match. Discuss your favorite matches involving the gimmick, how the stipulation has evolved over time, pros/cons, positives and negatives and try to predict where they will stand in the future. This month's featured Gimmick Match will be the Lumberjack Match. from Wikipedia: What do you think of the dreaded Lumberjack Match?

  25. I was having an interesting discussion with someone on the Observer board about how UK indies are so much more fun than American ones. One thing I really love is that heels in these promotions actually get heel heat. It was suggested this is partly because of the history of pantomime in UK culture. I'm totally in the dark on this stuff - do we have anyone here from the UK who keeps up with the scene and can comment? Basically, my big question is, are the UK indies going to be the last bastion of true heel heat besides casual WWE crowds? Because I go to American indy shows and it's nothing but people cheering for high spots and near falls and not my thing.
