We start with CZW 2/10/01 "Crushing the Competition" from Sewell, New Jersey. This starts with Dennis Shock who is basically a heel ring announcer going over the card and getting pissed at the fans especially Hat Guy then CZW Vice President Robbie Mireno gets heckled as well with "YOU SUCK DICK" chants being yelled out and he plays up to it of course. Mireno then says he has to go party with some lesbians and leaves. Super Crazy vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri Eric Gargiulo & John House play this up as their final encounter because Tajiri is heading to WWF. We get a handshake of respect before the match and Tajiri sprays the green mist before both men go to the floor…

  2. Are there any good shows WWF produced from the 1970s - mid 80s? Im trying to find something that my mum would enjoy and shes only really seen stuff like the PPVs so looking for some help to see what people would rate as good house shows. As we didnt get Sky till 1989 that was the first time we saw the weekly WWF TV so again if there are any good televised shows that might be worth something too.

So for this week's podcast, we're going to look at some of the scummiest things wrestling promoters have ever done in a misguided effort to draw money, get somebody over, or attract attention, and as always we'd like your suggestions for this lofty title. So the question is simply - what lowlife act or tasteless decision, on screen or off, do you find to be the most scummy and appalling, and why? As always the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly, and given we're talking about any promotion ever, you're probably spoilt for choice. So what's your personal pick? EDIT - Part 1 of our series discussing Wrestling's Scummiest Mo…

  4. The Chain/Strap/Bullrope match (basically anything where it's two tough dudes tied together to beat the shit out of eachother) is really interesting because it may be the most universal gimmick match ever. They've had them everywhere: in the US, Mexico, Europe, Puerto Rico, japanese girl feds, etc... and a number of legendary workers, from Wahoo McDaniel to Fit Finlay to John Cena have been in them. And looking at the list of contenders, there's quite a few all-time great matches there: Greg Valentine vs. Roddy Piper, 11/24/83 - one of the ultimate gruesome wrestling bloodbaths. I remember thinking this is a top 10-20 match ever the last time I watched it. May be a l…

Ric Flair®Verified account‏@RicFlairNatrBoy Follow More I'm Sad To Wake Up And Hear of the passing of my very close friend the Russian Bear Ivan Koloff. You will be missed My Friend. Rest In Peace --- One of my favorite pieces in my collection is a 1972ish AWA program with "THE MAN WHO BEAT BRUNO!" featured as they set up a series of Verne vs Koloff matches. I was too young to see him in his prime. His run with the Powers of Pain is my earliest memory.

It doesn't get a lot of attention here. What's the deal? From very limited viewing, and hearing Shoe and Dylan mention it in various podcasts, I get the impression that its very highspot orientated, throughout the card, with little sense of progression as an entire show. Any PWG fans here? Any standout matches/shows that you'd recommend for a newcomer?

I'll admit I was never a fan, but recently my eyes were opened by exposure to his crazed heel work in NYC in the 70s. At that time he was actually great in his role as a dangerous lunatic with not a single redeeming quality, a type of heel that simply doesn't exist anymore. If your only exposure to Steele is as a cartoon babyface in the 80s I recommend checking out some of his 70s work, such as the cage match with Bruno that was recently added to the network

Considering that he's making waves by trashing the ratings of his old show, I wouldn't put it past him to make an appearance at WrestleMania (most likely via satellite). I'm not following the current product at all, but I'm aware that they are making more steps to become an international company now. I wonder how much, if any, damage is likely to result from the Trump/McMahon relationship when it comes to certain countries they are making overtures towards but that he might ruffle some feathers with. I don't want this to become a political flamewar anymore than the mods do, and if it turns into that I'll understand that this needs to be shut down, but I just fee…

I'm thinking of finally making an attempt at a deep dive into 80s wrestling. Typically in the past I'd watch a disc or two of the dvdvr sets and lose focus. Then I'd aquire some other comps and YouTube channels and lose focus. I'm finally determined to go all in and cover the good shit. Outside of the great dvdvr 80s sets what are some suggestions on stuff like comps, must see matches, angles, etc. I'd prefer to aquire discs and have a good collection to start with. I have a few comps and a couple years of Bricks sets but am unsure on where else to start

  11. Or is it just a matter of the meaning of the word athletic shifting? I don't think there's any doubt that the gymnastic stunts done in today's wrestling are more impressive than those that were done in the past (now, I'm not of the opinion that automatically makes for better wrestling since I care more about the impact, but there's a story for another thread). Watching videos of the insane work-outs in the New Japan dojos as well as the stories of them is something that really made me think about this. It's true that wrestles may take more bumps today, but they also don't regularly do stuff like wrestle hour long matches, or if they do not nearly as often as it was the ca…

  12. I feel like discussing today, so: What's your thoughts on the state of the wrestling business as a whole in 2017? Work wise: Probably more good wrestling ever, but it comes at a cost. Everyone keeps upping the danger levels of their matches is leading to injuries and undermining more basic and less dangerous moves. I also think matches have stopped standing out due to everyone looking similarly and working the same indy style. Buisness wise: The only promotions who seem to be up from previous years are DDT, UK indies and ROH, and they had rather low bars to improve from, so it doesn't mean much. WWE's down. TNA's barely existent. NJPW isn't as strong as they w…

So, for this week's podcast we're doing our second show based off the old Room 101 television show, where we're looking for you to submit one nomination for a Tag Team from any point in time that you wish to be banished to oblivion for good, and why you want them in Room 101. You can be as flexible with the nomination as you like - it can be a certain period of a team's run, or if you really dislike a duo's body of work you can just toss the team in there. You can be obscure as you like in who you choose, it really comes down to the combo that always grinded your gears the most, and your explanation will be key in whether or not the panel agrees on the show to banish you…

  14. Who are wrestlers who you think came too soon or too late? My picks are: The Patriot - Couldn't think of a more perfect 70's or 80's babyface. No one really figured him out in the 90's minus the GWF and he was clearly past his time by '97. He'd probably be a heel now with the way the political spectrum is. Not sure how WCW managed to misuse him. Him and Sting would have been a cool team. Superstar Graham - Kind of perfect for his time, but he would have been even bigger if he was in his prime in the 80's. Mike Awesome - Can't believe none of the other Japanese companies didn't try to grab him in the 90's from FMW. Would have been perfect as a second Vader.…

  16. Curious, since I have frequently seen this criticism against Marufuji and many of the "flippy" wrestlers. If the illusion of impact is the important thing when it comes to strikes in pro wrestling, then what it the problem with doing something that makes a strike seem more devastating than it actually is. On the other hand, why do some US wrestlers get praised for having great punches when they barely make contact at all and some even use the stomping the mat sound effect.

  18. I can only think the PWO experts can help me here. Can anyone think of any promos, interviews etc in wrestling history where the wrestler uses the word "Generation". This is the intro to a podcast I am working on, have recorded two episodes but need an opener. Title is "The Wrestling Generation Gap" so I figured that would be an appropriate starter. Want to avoid the phrase DeGeneration X except maybe once. Dates are helpful of course if any of you can think of an example

What is the best decade in pro wrestling history? This is a loaded question since some people have seen more from one decade than another and because of footage issues for older decades but still. Define your own criteria: matches, booking, angles etc. etc. Personally, I'm going to go with the 90s and it's not even close. The sheer variety and quality of matches is unmatched.

So I gave Okada/Omega another chance after all the hype it was getting. I'd say the good outweighed the bad overall, but I doubt it would make a list of my top 200 favorite matches. But that's not the focus of this thread. Given all the reaction to Meltzer's ****** rating, I figured this would be a good time to revisit the topic. What do you consider to be the greatest match of all time? No lists, pick one and only one. Include an explanation if you like, especially if your pick is somewhat unorthodox. For me, it's an easy call: 6/9/95. 'Nuff said.

I was wondering what people thought were the most important matches in different time periods and areas of the world. Things like Gotch-Hackensmidt on April 3, 1908 drew like 28,000. That's pretty damn important, but what are the matches like that in England, Mexico, Japan, etc.. ? Is Hogan-Andre at WM3 the most important or is their rematch on the Main Event with the largest audience at the time bigger?

  24. We got a thread on Batista and it got me thinking and how Batista was able to do well and why Cena had a rough career at times. Cena was hot in 2002-2003 and was over with the IWC.WWE finally cements the turn in 2004 as Cena starts to become a less edgy rapper and a more generic face, going over people like Big Show, Carlito, RVD and Jesus before getting injured. Cena and Batista are the final 2 at the 2005 Rumble which will be remembered for Vince tearing his quad more than anything else. Cena then beats Angle and gets set up with JBL to give him the belt at Mania.Cena wins the belt at Mania 21, not really standing out next to HBK/Angle, Orton/Taker, Hogan's retu…

The matches are great, but we love the other stuff too! Whether its Andre Cross Ripping, Dusty's Hard Times, Pine Boxes, Mega Powers Colliding, Cactus' Anti-Hardcore, or just a need to talk to Tom, there is no shortage of candidates.
