Apologies if this exists elsewhere, but the question has been percolating in my mind and some of the recent talk about the Last Battle of Atlanta (http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/35434-last-battle-of-atlanta/)and the importance of finishers (http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/35447-how-important-is-the-finish-in-giving-a-match-five-stars/) got me pondering it again this morning. I didn't want to bog down the Last Battle thread with this or turn the Finishers thread too far off track, so I thought this could use its own thread or at least a revisit given the big unearthing one of the holy grails and the conversation about evaluation coming from it. U…

Per Collider news a director has been named. It's the person who did Punisher War Zone. So the movie is a go.

Fuji & Muraco were gold, I also dug him with Demolition, never really got into him with Killer Khan, Kamala, Powers of Pain, Orient Express or Yokozuna.

This will be a huge topic because of the hype. Let's keep it here for discussion and we will move this thread later once people have had a chance to watch it.

What does everyone here think about wrestling embracing a "shared universe" concept where events from one angle affect other angles in the same company? When i started watching (1990), this concept seemed to be embraced (for example, during the roberts/martel angle, after roberts got sprayed in the face with arrogance, big bossman came to jake's rescue, despite not being a part of that angle). Heck, even ECW would have multiple angles in the same match. But now, it seems like most angles are in a vacuum. If you had someone do an injury angle on RAW, it seems absurd for the new day to come out so jovial in the next segment.

Discuss midwest indies here. This is my main interest and I don't really have a place to talk about it, so I'm making this thread.

From their website: Makes sense considering their partnership with CMLL, but like cubsfan joked on Twitter they could have just asked to use one of their titles since they don't seem to remember who half their champions are.

Post Watts did Dusty get the book immediately? I had heard Ole Anderson was also booking around this time. Was it a committee? Dusty and Ole? What led to Flair getting the book in early 94? I assume a disastrous 93 but Turner execs always seemed down on him going back to his 89 run.

Guys, sitting in my drawer now I have: The Watts Set - watched first 4 discs 80s All Japan - watched and rated first 4 discs 80s New Japan - not touched Will's amazing 4 Horsemen set - 4 discs deep 1992 Yearbook - arrived yesterday 1993 Yearbook - arrived today One or two of the Schneider comps - not touched 2010 MotY - not touched In addition, I have my ongoing WCW PPV reviews with every NWA and WCW PPV ever recorded sitting on my desktop. Great American Bash '96 forthcoming (which might be the best WCW PPV since Spring Stampede '94) I'm also a pretty busy guy. I love my wrestling, but I might have hit a moment of overload here. I'd…

So, for this week's podcast, we're returning to our "Court Case" format to debate the career of the Undertaker on the charge of misrepresentation of stature and level of contribution to WWE's success. We'd like your feedback to the question: When you examine Undertaker's body of work on and off screen from 1990 to today, did he deserve the career and legacy WWE bestowed upon him, and do you feel he's been as important to WWE's success as they imply? As always the best contributions will be read on the show during the debate and you'll be credited accordingly. So what do you think, guilty or not guilty, and why? EDIT - Our show titled "The Trial of The Undertaker, f…

I think there are a few things to cover here, and this feels like an exercise in getting the questions right as much as finding the answers. The predominant mode of critiquing wrestling seems to be rating matches on the ol’ star rating system. Aligned to this is the match review, which more often than not is an intro, followed by play-by-play, concluding thoughts, star rating. I know there are exceptions. Is this focus on matches the right way of critiquing wrestling? While in the in-ring action is generally the most important aspect, it isn’t the be-all and end-all of pro wrestling as an art form/performance/spectacle. Promos, angles, skits and VTs all play t…

So after seeing some of the reaction to Vader beating Will Ospreay in their match and recalling the whole twitter "debate" that preceded it I had to ask myself if there is any other fan base that seems to have such rampant ageism as pro wrestling does? It's not just about not wanting to see "old guys" wrestle but it seems like any time anyone from the wrestling world over the age of 40 says something that isn't lavishing praise on current wrestling there is a huge barrage of vitriolic comments ranging from calling them "old fucks" to saying they need to get back to their retirement home or the standard "old man shakes fist at cloud." And of course the frequent wild ex…

Booker ratings: In light of recent convserations, thought I'd have a bit of fun with this. I have taken some well-known promoters and rated them out of ten in six areas. Let me run through the six criteria: Mastery over crowd: How much did they dictate to the crowd vs. how much did they let the crowd dictate to them where the former is 10 and the latter is 0. Innovation: How many new ideas did they bring to the mix? Angles: What was their record like at booking legendary angles and feuds? Quality of Cards: What was the quality of wrestling on their cards generally like? Finances: How good were they are watching the bottom line and making money? Talent …

I didn't know where to put this so I started a new thread here. This is something I was finally looking for. CCTV sat down with Aja Kong to talk to her about growing up in Japan being mixed race in English and about her career. It was posted in January. Here's the description from the video.

So for this week's podcast, we're looking to talk about viewpoints contrary to popular opinion, and are looking to get some feedback. This forum has always been great for exploring commonly held beliefs and challenging them, so I'm keen to find out which opinions really stick with people on here. What do you see as something most people enjoyed (a wrestler, a show, an angle, a gimmick, etc) but didn't click with you at all? What was it and why didn't it work for you? This can go vice versa as well, did something really click with you but is largely panned by others? And why did you like it so much? As always the best contributions will be read on the show and you'll be…

I suspect he was raising valid points in that interview too. Well, let's see: Rogers says some of the things they're doing today insult people's intelligence and that there's no need to resort to them. He thinks they should get back to wrestling and that there should be more rules. In his day there were suspensions and fines, and he tells some story about how he was suspended for two years from the state of New York for shoving a guy after a match was over. The interviewer mentions that nowadays guys are bringing chairs into the ring and Rogers says they use everything next to machine guns if they can carry it in there. He says it's ridiculous because there's…

So, for this week's podcast, we're looking to talk about the debuts in wrestling that personally intrigued you the most or left you underwhelmed. Rather than asking what you think were the best and worst (which would likely bring back a horde of Jericho/Kane/Shockmaster responses), we'd like to know which character introduction, from any company at any time, personally resonated with you the most as a fan, on either end of the scale. And most importantly - why. As always, the best responses will be read on the show and you'll be credited accordingly. So which one stands out for you as blowing you away or deflating your expectations? EDIT - Our show debating the Be…

So after watching a Southeastern episode where Charlie Platt talked about the TV main event between Ron Fuller and Jimmy Golden being a "main event anywhere in the country" I thought it would be fun to come up with a territory wrestling bingo card. Something similar to this other wrestling themed bingo card: Obviously "this is a main event anywhere in the country" goes on there. I'd also add "this is my time" for arguments when someone's interview is interrupted, "I'm gonna put him out of wrestling/rasslin for good" for your frequent injury threats and "greatest action anywhere in the country" which I've heard in some form or other from every territory I've watched.…

So CMLL announced they are finally starting to work with ROH, which everyone was waiting for since both of them have talent exchanges with New Japan, This seems like a win-win for both sides. CMLL has like a billion guys they don't ever seem to use much, ROH needs some new faces to spice things up, and CMLL ownership is so hands off they likely won't give a shit if their guys job as long as they get their cut so ROH guys don't have to be cannon fodder like they are to New Japan.

Over the years there have been numerous moves/strikes which have bothered me or I just don't like: The Worm, John Cena's You Can't See Me Fistdrop, The People's Elbow, The Bushwhackers' Battering Ram, Jeff Hardy's Swanton Bomb and Twist of Fate, and now there is a new one... Roman Reign's Superman Punch. I can't stand it. I think it looks dumb, he clearly misses entirely much of the time, the announcers play it up like it's a huge deal when he hits it. It's one of my least favorite parts of Reigns' offense, none of which I really like. What do you say? What moves/strikes do you not like and why?

He wrestled in the main event, and after nine chops, four clotheslines, and three body slams, as he stood there sucking wind, he actually started a "You Still Got It" chant for himself..... I just felt the need to share that story, and I thought the folks here might appreciate the absurdity of it.
