As I currently have some free time on my hands I have thought about starting a little watching project of my own. One of the things that has been on my mind for a while is the time when I really started to get into wrestling and I started to branch of more and from the standard WWE stuff. One of the first things besides Raw and Smackdown that I was aware off was Impact Wrestling, but I think there are already enough people covering that. The other product that I started watching then was a little internet exclusive show called NXT Redemption. This was the weird in between period of NXT after it stopped being a game show that offered a roster spot and before it became what…

It's a diary, intended to never be read by anybody, so it can safely be assumed everything in it is the truth. It's also very detailed and conveniently indexed But, you can only pick and read one entry (and all associated entries of thereof). What do you read? Rita Chatterton? Owen Hart? Screwjob? Nailz? Mar 26th 2001? Benoit murders? Something else?

There have been some weird vibes going on at PWO lately (seriously that Ryback thread, wtf people) and fuck that shit. It's time to feel good! The last time this happened was here: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/30792-quarterly-feel-good-poll-3/?hl=quarterly So turn on a Kamala match, pat your belly and feel good. Current favorite wrestler to watch: Last fun match you saw: Wrestler you want to see more of: Last live show attended (if applicable/different from last time you answered): Match you're most looking forward to watching: Last fun interview/promo you saw: Last interesting thing you read about wrestling: Last worthwhile podcast you listen…

Just thought I would start a thread for thoughts on various lucha matches from any time period, and for matches that perhaps don’t belong on the worth watching section of the yearbook project. Would encourage anyone to participate or contribute as it’s always interesting to read other’s thoughts on a match they do or don’t like. Thought I would start this off with a match that I really like, but one that may not belong on a yearbook: (Pierroth Jr. and Vampiro vs Jaque Mate and Masakre 3/5/93) This started with some solid matwork between Mate and Pierroth that had an edge to it as Mate was trying to prove himself as Pierroth’s equal. Pierroth tries to keep on good term…

I've been thinking about this a bit since the last few RAW's, where people have been like, "no Rollins is the future", "no Ambrose is", "no Rollins is", and so forth and so on around the Internet. It's been weird because I personally feel neither of the Shield members nor anybody on the full-time WWE or NXT roster is "The Guy" and I think I've kind of parsed it out - nobody feels 'dangerous.' I don't mean 'dangerous' as in will throw you in a table or yell nasty things at a woman wrestler. I mean 'dangerous' in the sense I think things could go off the rails at any second with them during an angle or a promo or even a match and even if it's bad, it'd be awes…

I was watching a what culture video on the tallest wrestlers and they mention this guy. He went by Little John in WCCW & Silo Sam in the AWA, but they mentioned he had a tryout dark match for the WWF at a June 1987 TV taping, but was on the payroll for 8 months before that. Any clue which taping he wrestled at and who he faced? I'm sure Parv could dig up a WON to find out. It's always interesting finding out about wrestlers that had dark match tryouts at WWF TV tapings, but you never heard about it before.

Rock-Brock to me has maybe biggest 'box office' potential of any match ever. Tons of mainstream appeal. I'd say would have been even bigger at 29 or 30 than it would be now, based on both of them having more recently returned from Hollywood and UFC. But now with it being in that new big ass Dallas stadium like Mayweather-Pacquio was supposed to have been with that huge 40-yard HD 4K video scoreboard or whatever it is , I think it could be just as big as it would have been a few years back. They don't even have to run it as the closer and could go with Taker-Cena on last as well as Reigns-HHH as another 'main event' match in there somewhere. But they could easily go t…

So for this week's podcast, we're looking at examples in history where you as a fan have always thought that another wrestler or team should have been earmarked for a title run that took place for someone else. Just as an example, if you thought somebody else would have been better getting the WWE Title rather than JBL in 2004, or a better transitional NWA Champ than Ronnie Garvin, or a better candidate at WWF Tag Champs in 91 than the Nasty Boys, who would you pick and why? Of course, your suggestions can apply for any championship at any time, but the key is why you thought the alternative would be better in the role. As always we'll be reading the best contribu…

Who are some guys who just didnt "fit in" to a promotion? Either they were there way too long while the company was changing its image, or they just didnt fit in there to begin with? LOD's 1998 run definitely comes to mind. It was a desperate attempt to fit into the attitude era, but the outfits looked more like they belonged in an 80s sci-fi film, and once the New Age Outlaws became the top babyface team, there was no real reason to keep them around. I wont even go into the drunk hawk storyline.

I did a show with Will last night (see here -- and I'd definitely LOVE to hear other people's views on those two matches) in which I think we nailed some of the real differences in what we like as fans. I like big performers. I love Pat Patterson who plays to the cheap seats. I love guys like Jack Brisco, Rick Martel and Ricky Steamboat who do HUGE selling that you just can't miss. All three of those guys sell a punch like they've been shot, they'll sell a piledriver with full body convulsions and the shaky leg. I think this sort of large over-the-top performance is fantastic. A lot of the guys I am high on -- Flair, Funk, Arn, DiBiase, Race, Heenan -- excel at the b…

Hey guys, I've almost finished the Mid South episodes that are in order on youtube. I was wondering if anyone has some good links for other territory promotions? I really prefer to see them in order rather than the bits and pieces I find of CWA/USWA for example. Any info would be depreciated! Jake

I have an idea for a new project I want to start in 2016. I want to use the coming week of 10/11-10/17 to test it out and see how it works out in practice so that come January 1, I can hit the ground running. It's called Wrestling 365! If you're like me, you find yourself often wanting to watch wrestling, but feel overwhelmed and do not know where to start, so you never pass go. Well, hopefully this will work for anyone. I know I'm someone who needs variety and this definitely provides that. Anyway, here's how it works. Each day, I want to watch as many matches as I have time to watch from that day in history. So for example, on January 1, I'll watch as many January 1…

which match was better? which year showcased a better group of teams? I lean toward 88, I hated the Dream team of Bravo and Valentine in 87, hated Rougeaus as a face team and didnt enjoy seeing Jim Powers given a lot of ring time 88 had the Brainbusters and the Rockers but did have the dubious double turn and the Conquistadors kicking out of everything anyway, thoughts?

After finishing up the 2000s Japan project, I wanted a departure from puroresu and the 2000s so I decided it was a high time for me to go through 1980s in America. I have been reading about these matches for a decade plus in some cases and in others I only learned of their existence through this enriching and wonderful project. In either case, I was ready to watch some bitchin wrestling featuring my some of my favorite wrestlers from my favorite decade for entertainment, the 1980s! In my mind America, there was a power six at the start of the decade: WWF, Jim Crockett, AWA, Mid-South, WCCW and Memphis. I am starting with the last four. The one nice thing about doing …

Several of us on this site have written many match reviews. My own entries are in the 100s. In this thread, I'm interested in views on reviews.* I've been thinking about this recently after reading the introduction to Frank Kermode's The Uses of Error. We often write reviews without really thinking much about the process of writing them. On one memorable occassion, jdw reviewed one of my reviews (the match was Rey vs. Santito), and gave it one star. But this sort of thing is memorable precisely because it is so uncommon. Although there have been exceptions, the vast majority of my reviews follow the same format: Many times, I've thought about trying t…

I've begun work on a project that may or may not ever see completion, but as part of it I've decided to research this strange encounter between wrestler and boxer from 1976. I've done some basic research so far, and I plan to sit down with a beer or two and watch the whole match soon http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xu7t5_muh...nio-inoki_sport (poor quality, but the only complete version of the match I could find online so far). Anyway, I would appreciate any opinions and insight on the story surrounding the match from the learned folk around here. I know the basic overview, but am far from an expert on the subject. Full credit will be given if this project is ever …

Anyone know why this seems to be the only existing footage of Stampede Wrestling from the first nearly 20 years of the TV show? I'm going to be doing a podcast mini-series shortly on the history of Stampede and I'm curious how this seemingly random show survived and nothing else did from this era, or at least nothing has surfaced. Any help would be greatly appreciated
