Looking around the forums, I've seen various beginner's guides to different styles of wrestling and they are immensely useful. That got me to wondering if there's some sort of guide to watching wrestling analytically somewhere around. I'm a pretty much lifelong wrestling fan but I don't really have much experience in analyzing what I'm watching. Is there something someone could point me to that gives some tips on getting started in that process? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

So they're going on about this being the first iron man's match with women: http://jezebel.com/little-girls-and-iron-women-nxt-takeover-makes-womens-1735525052 I assume other women have done this in the past, be it in Japan or in an indy fed. Toyota had the Toyota vs AJW iron match where she took on the entire AJW roster, which went 60:00 if I recall. Does anyone know of any non-tag iron man matches with women?

I've recently gone through 6 discs of Memphis (LOVE IT!) and then popped in a mix comp to keep things fresh. Two MPro matches, a lucha match and an AJPW match later I had a thought that I felt deserved a post. I could very easily view all of these non-Memphis matches as very highspot heavy (especially if you remove the AJPW match) and overly reliant on popping the crowd big. I could also look at them as completely different styles of wrestling in different places with different wrestling philosophies, largely because they are all mid-90s matches, guiding the wrestlers involved. Interstingly enough, mid-90s Japanese style is very similar to modern WWE style if you remo…

In case anyone was on the fence with this book, here's a blurb that I copied from the Kindle version. It's a really good book and I highly recommend it. I love details like this. Basically, back in those early days at the Philadelphia Arena, the boys got there at around eleven in the morning with Vince McMahon Jr. to start taping three weeks of house show interviews. They typically spent the whole day laying those down, because each card would require three different sets of interviews (one for each week of TV) for at least two and sometimes three of the feature matches. Nothing was scripted, so it often took a few takes to get the interviews right and to make them so…

Well technically he returned to an All Elite show running Arena Mexico, but it's the same deal they did with La Parka when he returned. Considering they were building him as the top heel against Rey Jr this is a pretty embarrassing moment for AAA.

There are many things that British wrestling did badly, but this has to take the cake. Watch this from the 18 min mark onward and tell me if you've seen anything worse;

Was just looking through WrestlingData and found out about Tamura's stay in TPW after he left UWFi and overlapping by several months with his start in RINGS. He had some matches there against opponents you would never expect: TPW @ Atami 1996/07/23 @ Atami, Shizuoka (Japan) Brazo de Oro and Brazo de Plata defeated Kiyoshi Tamura and Shocker TPW @ Maebashi 1996/07/27 @ City Gymnasium in Maebashi, Gunma (Japan) Sabu defeated Kiyoshi Tamura TPW @ Niigata 1996/09/19 @ City Gymnasium in Niigata, Niigata (Japan) Abdullah the Butcher defeated Kiyoshi Tamura Here is the full list. I assume there's no footage available of any of this stuff? Seems bizarre that he'd le…

Been watching TNA through 2004/2007 (2005-2006) being a bloody great period of TV for TNA, and Christ it's depressing what became of TNA. So I thought since the TNA thread is such a depressing car crash I thought about a three column idea for listing what you would consider genuine TNA moments (did they have any?) As well as your personal hits and misses and maybe why so. MOMENTS *Skipper walks the cage. TNA's version of the Superfly on the cage for several reasons. TNA were canny about always showing this and letting the visual sell itself rather than the modern day manufactured moments in wrestling. *Angle headbutts Joe. Brilliant angle, superb stuff. The shot of …

Who are the best offensive wrestlers in your view? I made a top ten of those I've spent decent amounts of time viewing. 1. Kenta Kobashi - so dynamic, so huge 2. Yoshiaki Yatsu - I think people should make more of a fuss over his amazing offense in general 3. Bob Orton Jr. - probably the most exciting bombmaster of his generation 4. Harley Race - suplex for every occasion, piledrivers galore, awesome "follow through" punch in corner, headbutts, bizarrely worked underneath for most of his career. 5. Jumbo Tsuruta - the only man who can make a basic bodyslam seem like a finisher. Every move he hits is like a finisher. 6. AJ Styles - the most exciting and dynam…

While watching various programming from both companies lately, i noticed that WCW commentary seemed to focus more on the in-ring abilities rather than the gimmick of a wrestler. Yes, there were plenty of gimmicks there, some incredibly absurd for that matter, but it was always treated as just an aspect of their personality, and the wrestling was what mattered. Meanwhile, with the WWF, the gimmick was what was being "sold", and that continues even to this day. To make an example, watch any wcw match with an absurd gimmick (ie, big josh, glacier, even the dungeon of doom) and compare the commentary with wwf/e matches with absurd gimmicks (ie, repo man, IRS, or for a more re…

This doesn't deserve a thread (and there is the "What are you watching" thread), but today I watched: A really fun Garza vs Shocker match from 2008 that someone posted last week; A Gino vs Race title match that until a day or two ago almost no one had seen in thirty-five years; one of those amazing World of Sport Zolton Boscik vs Jon Cortez matches. And there's a live MSG card on tonight. Sure, it's a sort of lackluster one, but it's what they'd be presenting anyway, more or less, and it's great we get to see it. There's just so much out there right now.

The old "doesn't warrant a thread" thread is dead, so I haven't got a clue of where to toss this. So perhaps a thread on really wacky creative work. This guy is frankly pretty brilliant. Of course he's exposing everything, but if you listen to and watch the crowd, they are "in" on the reality of everything, so they're having fun with it. He doesn't overstay his welcome, as just when you think it's getting long of tooth, the work to the finish is well thought out. https://www.facebook.com/408428095912101/videos/932310970190475

For this week's podcast, we're taking a look at eight wrestlers and discussing whether or not they were better in their role as a babyface or a heel over the course of their career, considering their work in the ring as well as analysing their characters/personalities/runs, and would love to get your thoughts and feedback on the following individuals and whether you prefer them as faces or heels, and most important, why: 1. Randy Savage 2. Ric Flair 3. The Rock 4. Kurt Angle 5. Mick Foley 6. Shawn Michaels 7. Bret Hart 8. Daniel Bryan As always the best contributions will be read on the podcast and you'll be credited accordingly. So wha…

Am I missing a thread for this? If not, there really should be one so here it is. Mostly I just want an outlet to talk about cool indie lucha finds What's exciting y'all in lucha this year? CMLL seems to have hit a rough spot after a really pretty stellar in-ring 2014. This year's En Busca might be even more disappointing than this years G1 is shaping up to be. The Dragon Lee/Kamaitachi feud is one of few bright spots. On the other hand from what I've seen the indies, especially CaraLucha and Chilanga Mask, seem to be tearing it up.

For all the nitpicking about TNA, this is a really cool gesture - especially if Earl Hebner is indeed "the first referee to ever be inducted into a professional wrestling Hall of Fame." Is that actually true? We know there are no referees in the WWE Hall of Fame, obviously. What about the Observer Hall of Fame? There is at least one other wrestling HOF too. Maybe more than one. Is a ref in any of those? Here is the official press release from TNA, for those interested: http://prowrestling.net/article.php?TNA-announces-Earl-Hebner-s-inductor-Hebner-comments-on-the-honor-more-details-on-the-Hall-of-Fame-ceremony-44017

So I've moved RAW to my secondary TV due to being well RAW and I've started watching Wildside TV on my Roku on my main TV and for those of you that heard us talk about Wildside on Exile #3 this was one of the best episodes of TV they did at this early stage of their run in 2001.

I picked this up today based on the hype and thought I'd start a thread to capture my thoughts. Other than Jimmy Rave and Moose, this is the first time I have seen any of these guys work. Corey Hollis vs Joey Lynch Well, this show certainly started off with a bang. Joey Lynch was fine and his selling was very good, but I was more focused on Corey Hollis here because of how the match was laid out. In fact, I was worried he was going to lose since he was taking so much of the match, which would have been disappointing since he's definitely a guy I want to see work more matches. Hollis works a lot like a young and slightly modernized Arn Anderson. He will probably be a …
