Are they a good idea? A quick search reveals it hasn't been done much in modern wrestling history. 1. NWA - Magnum TA vs Nikita Koloff - Cornette talks about this a little on his podcast. He said that most of the matches were not televised, only 1 or 2 at the most. Of course, this was back when it was more important to sell tickets than get tv ratings. 2. WCW - Booker T vs Chris Benoit - For me this is the one that comes to mind when someone mentions a best of 7 series. I don't really remember how good the matches were though, but I enjoyed it at the time. 3. WWE - Booker T vs Chris Benoit 2.0 - WWE went back to the well, this time for the U.S. title. Book…

The Thanksgiving holiday is actually the reason that I'm a professional wrestling fan. When I was a kid, my parents would of course have the whole family over for Thanksgiving, to celebrate the holiday & have the big feast. The location of which family was hosting the holiday would change annually but one thing was consistent: there were a lot of kids & the adults wanted the kids out of their hair. So, how was this accomplished? WWF Survivor Series: The Thanksgiving night tradition! I immediately became a big Hulk Hogan & Ultimate Warrior fan & started following WWF television on weekends & when I could stay up, WWF Saturday Night's Main Ev…

This may be a big ask, but I'm looking for some match recommendations involving the following wrestlers in territories that I know little about. Doesn't necessarily have to be a singles match. Feel free to move to a more appropriate folder, if need be. Any help would be greatly appreciated: Barry Windham (Florida) Billy Jack Haynes (Portland) Bob Armstrong/Armstrongs (Continental) Bob Sweetan (Southwest) Buddy Rose (Portland) Buzz Sawyer (Georgia) Dick Slater (Southwest) Don Muraco (Florida) Dory Funk Jr. (Florida) Dusty Rhodes (Florida) Eddie Gilbert (Continental) Freebirds (Georgia) Gino Hernandez (Southwest) Jack Brisco (Florida) Jimmy …

Tomorrow is the big finale of the Triplemania Trilogy and here is the lineup: AAA Mega Championship Hijo del Vikingo vs Rey Fenix While this wasn't the match AAA wanted, believe it or not (hi Kenny!), this match should be an absolute banger. Vikingo has been one of the best in Mexico and Fenix is Fenix, so it would take an act of God for this to not be awesome. Mask Tournament Final Pentagon Jr vs Villano IV Villano IV has been punching above his weight this whole tournament, no one expected much from him but he's been able to turn back the clock and have fun brawls. That's right in Penta's wheelhouse so this should be a fun crazy bra…

Humberto Garza Sr, patriarch of the Garza family and star in Monterrey in the 50s/60s/70s passed away at the age of 85. He was the father of Humberto Jr and Hector Garza, and the grandfather of Humberto Carrillo and Angel Garza in WWE. Other than his family, his biggest legacy in Lucha was innovating the Tope Suicida, which low key makes him one of the most influential wrestlers ever.

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Triplemania, AAA is doing three shows this year with the Triplemania name with the first one being this Saturday. As part of that, they are doing a DEATH ROULETTE tournament where legends of lucha are putting their masks on the line. A lot of this will be old dudes wrestling each other, but it will likely be a huge draw since there will be a ton of famous names involved. There will be the usual Marvel inspired matches and the Copa Triplemania match, but I don't think either of those will be shown on the PPV. They will likely show up on AAA's YouTube channel a few weeks later. The Lineup: Main Event Fenix/El Hijo del…

What do you think of shows held in outdoor venues? I personally love them as they give the shows a unique look. While I've never really been to an outdoor show (aside from an indy show held as part of a state fair way back in the day), it's neat to see shows in the sun, as well as when sunset hits. That said, I can understand how ones that are held in hot weather could negatively affect the wrestlers (especially if they wrestle in bodysuits or shirts, meaning they could get really hot and tired during the match).

  13. Looks like these guys are picking up from where the older Hall left off, in close by Schenectady. Two classes so far, and nearly 40 inductees https://www.prowrestlinghall.org

It has been announced that the IWE/AJPW/90s indy sleaze stalwart passed away today at the age of 73 from heart failure. He had been suffering from high blood pressure and ulcerative colitis in his lower legs due to diabetes. Tsurumi is recognised for being the first real native heel in Japan, starting the Dokuritsu Gurentai faction in the latter days of IWE, an effort by Isao Yoshihara to generate interest in the struggling promotion. A memorial video has been posted here featuring a match pre-heel turn, where he and Animal Hamaguchi unsuccessfully challenged Gokudō Combi (Motoshi Ōkuma & Great Kojika) for the All-Asia tag titles. Durin…

  17. How the mighty have fallen.Jim Cornette worked himself into a shoot and became the Donald Trump of pro wrestling. His followers, the Cult of Cornette, can at times make Russo fans appear calm and rational. If Cornette says something, the cult is quick to say he didn't say it, and if he did, well...Cornette didn't mean it. And if its revealed Cornette did mean it, while its just verbal Death Stranding and we all just don't get it because it's too high concept for us normal folk. It doesn't get better from there, because if we do understand what Cornette means, its not a big deal! And if it is a big deal, then we are told that tons of others have done and said much worse. D…

I was listening to a recent Raven interview (after seeing him popping up on IMPACT) and he made quite an interesting comment about his own career : "I never had my best match". Which of course can seem absurd since de facto, one of his matches had to be the best of all the matches he worked. But what he means is that he never had the best match he potentially could have had. And that's quite a thing to say I thought, in a time where everything is deemed GOAT every two seconds. And so I was thinking, who are other pro-wrestlers who "never had their best match" ? I can think of many for obvious reasons (died too early or having way too much health/addiction issues), bu…

From the WO site: Judo Gene LeBell, best known for his catch wrestling technique that later became an influence in both pro wrestling and mixed martial arts, has passed away at 89 years old. Bas Rutten wrote on Facebook that LeBell had passed away. “My deepest condolences to his lovely wife Midge, his kids and all his other family members and friends,” he wrote. “You will be greatly missed Gene, I love you my friend, till we meet again!” LeBell started catch wrestling at the age of 7, training under Ed “Strangler” Lewis and later trained in judo. He was also trained by the likes of Karl Gotch and Lou Thesz. In 1963, he accepted a challenge to fi…

Following from the feedback that we have received in these discussions. This would easily be the biggest story to hit pro wrestling since news about the Gold Dust trio disbanding in the 1930s. So what do we think? Personally, I think that even if he is gone, nothing will change materially. HHH and Stephanie are way too versed in WWE philosophy. I think it will be worse, actually, with many pretenders trying to stake a claim to his throne. Nevertheless, this is definitely the biggest story in our circles since Vince himself decided to launch Wrestlemania, nearly 40 years ago. I mean, are Hunter and Steph really that different?

Surprised there isn't already a thread. R.I.P. Dave Heber One of the all-time great referees. Most famous for the "twin referees" angle during Hogan vs. Andre, but he had a long and distinguished career before and after. It's a shame that he was unceremoniously fired from WWE for supposedly counterfeiting merchandise - a charge he denied until the day he died. No In Memoriam graphic on Smackdown, and no HOF for either of the Hebners, even though they're both far more deserving than half the people already in. Update: R.I.P. Tim White The sad news keeps coming! In addition to being a great referee, he was also Andre t…
