No details posted that I can find, but Dave broke the news on WOR last night. He had a wrestling career, but his bigger influence was as a booker. Kris, Bix, Dylan ... anyone want to take a shot at a bio? He booked Mid Atlantic from 1973-1981 when the territory transitioned to singles matches, brought in Wahoo and Johnny Valentine and also got over Flair and Steamboat as stars. He was also a key player in the early days of the WWF expansion until he had a falling out with Hogan and had a brief stint early in '89 WCW that was pretty disappointing.

I am making this post mainly because Dave Meltzer recently raved about them after watching one of their matches and I suspect they'll start getting some buzz as a result. I don't know enough about them as workers to either praise them or write them off, but one thing that was getting a lot of positive play was Jeff Cobb's reverse powerslam, which can be seen in this short video: http://instagram.com/p/h-JvjRGZZC/ Is something wrong with me because I think this move looks awful? Anyway, Dylan told me a little about them, but has anyone else watched any of their stuff? What do you think?

Figured this would be a fun topic to discuss. To make things interesting, I'm excluding matches that were ruined by overbooking or a ridiculous gimmick. I'm also excluding matches involving celebrities and the like. I'm looking for matches where trained and experienced wrestlers completely stink out the joint and have no one to blame but themselves.

Hey guys, much in the same vain as the thread discussing the WWF Title picture heading into Wrestlemania IV I was wondering what the deal was with Hogan dropping the title to Taker at Survivor Series 91 only to win it back a week later at Tuesday In Texas and then be stripped of the title on TV shortly after? Also, what are peoples opinions on the matches themselves?

Here we are with the "Free TV Match of the Week" voting. This will be a good opportunity, at least for me, to make sure I can watch some of the weekly pimped stuff I may had missed. Like I mentioned before it's by air date and the first week will be short, because I only wanted 2014. Next week will be a proper 7 day week. I left an other option, in case I missed something that you thought was the best. Vote here and post about why you think the match you voted for was the best. I'll update the winner on here when the voting is over. I plan to post these on Friday each week, so you have till then to vote. EDIT: The Match of the week is Negro Casas…

I have been seeing a lot of divided opinions on the net about this one. Will the heel turn make him stronger or kill the momentum he has built up?

http://www.prowrestling.net/artman/publish...e10035190.shtml There was always a lot of criticism of her angles in modern WWE by smarks but I always respected her immensely. RIP Meltz

I've been to plenty of ECCW shows, does anyone know of any wrestling promotions that run from BC to Oregon? Looking to do a road trip to watch some wrestling but the internet hasn't helped me in my search.

I'll start this out by clarifying for those who don't know that this is the first New Japan show I have watched since the critical resurgence that started a few years back. I think the newest New Japan match I've seen is probably a Giant Bernard match from 2006 and even then, that was in isolation and not something I remember all that much. Before that, I remember catching the Tokyo Dome shows in 1999 and 2000 in passing, but I don't really remember details. I've grown to be a very big fan of New Japan Pro Wrestling as I've watched 90s yearbooks. While I don't think the heavyweights were at the level of their All Japan counterparts, I do think they were excellent work…

What have you got over the years which has made you smile or made you squirm and are you expecting anything this year? The best I ever got was a whole lot of Hasbro merch back in 1991, including the ring, Hulk Hogan, Ultimate Warrior and Rick Rude figures. Sure, looking back the psycology of two huge babyfaces double teaming a much smaller heel was well out of whack, but it's an untouchable memory all the same.

JR wrote an entertaining piece on how Ric Flair was going to get out of "turning heel" on the Carolina Panthers msn.foxsports.com/buzzer/story/2014/01/11/don-t-be-surprised-is-niners-fall-victim-to-ric-s-slick-tricks.html

I was thinking earlier that though I knew wrestling was predetermined when I was a kid, many of the more nuanced ideas around wrestling and, more specifically, discussing wrestling never occurred to me before reading Meltzer and online forums. For instance, it never really occurred to me that a headlock was a chance for the wrestlers to catch their breath and have a rest. I still don't love the term "rest hold", since I think it diminishes the importance of those holds to the psychology of the match, but I'm sure they are used for just that much of the time. It also never occurred to me that a certain type of win/loss meant more than any other. Yeah, DQs and countou…

In 2014 there will be weekly polls put up where we vote for the best TV match of the week. There will be a poll put up early in the week with the top matches that aired the previous week. This will be a fun project. This thread is here to recommend matches to go on the poll. If you saw a TV match on some random indie on youtube that nobody else saw that you think is up there with lucha and WWE TV, then nominate it so it is at least looked at.

What would you ask the Million Dollar Man? Time will probably be short, so I'm looking for a topic or three he could really knock out of the park.

From http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-sto...wwe-main-event- On 8/5, ESPN Classic is going to be airing a Global Wrestling (Texas promotion from the early 90s) marathon. They are going to start airing old Global shows regularly on the station (thanks to Bill Strong). Fuck yeah...

Ok, maybe a stupid question. I want to go back and watch some of the Tito/Valentine series since I have only seen a handful of their matches. My problem with watching a series of matches is I cannot tell them apart unless it has the year or month in the description. There has to be an easy way around this correct ?

So Steve Yohe organized a vote on the "Greatest 100 Wrestling Stars" over at Classics over the last couple of months. The voters were selected by invite/approval, and it was a simple list from 1-100 of the top wrestling stars in history in the eyes of each voter. Steve discussed his idea of the criteria over at Classics, but he left it open to interpretation of the individual voters. In the end 26 people voted, representing a fairly broad cross section of researchers, fans, and historians. The list of voters were: #1-Steve Yohe #2-Jan H. (Man-E-Faces or H7-25) from Germany #3-Etsuji Koizumi #4-Joe Opiela #5-Steve Johnson #6-J Michael Kenyon #…

Not to make excuses for the guy but...does anyone sell injuries for more than a few minutes in today's "feed me more" (ha!) pro wrestling climate? I used to notice Benoit being one of the only guys who would sell while on offense. I always cringe when DB does the headbutt or the tope suicida to nowhere. WWE guys need to stop doing the step collision spot. That probably doesn't help all these shoulder and arm injuries or tears that guys are getting. Does anyone think the Bryan/Shield/Rhodeses/others will be looked back on with the same ambivilence that the "Smackdown Six" suffered from a few years after the fact? There are all these good/great/excellent tel…

Interested to see what the debated points will be for our list! Criteria was bell to bell performance and that can be anything from athletic ability to charisma to selling to quantity of great matches. The issue is still available at bookstores in Europe and online at http://www.fightingspiritmagazine.co.uk/magazine/subscribe - so if you want to read write-ups on all 100 wrestlers (plus an awesome Big Van Vader article by Dave Ditch, then check that out!) 1. Daniel Bryan 2. Hiroshi Tanahashi 3. John Cena 4. Sami Zayn 5. CM Punk 6. Shawn Michaels 7. Rey Mysterio 8. Chris Jericho 9. KENTA 10. Prince Devitt 11. Shingo Takagi 12. The Undertaker 13. AJ Styl…

I'm working on a wrestling simulation game in the vein of EWR as a hobby horse project to help myself learn additional coding. Having a background in RPG video games and D&D, I'm thinking at this point about the "character sheet" of a pro wrestler. EWR has the simple system of a 1-100 scale in technical/high flying/brawling plus another 1-100 scale in charisma for mic skills. It then has a few additional "attributes" such as "superstar look" or "high spots" that unlock additional options or gimmicks. Its not a bad basic system, but it creates all kinds of issues that bug me like the inability of a great high flyer to have a good match with a great brawling big ma…

http://placetobenation.com/good-will-wrest...wwe-tv-network/ On the latest podcast, we looked at the WWE Network. I asked the question... What would your weekly programming schedule look like? Do you load it up with classic shows? Do you release entire "seasons" of the old territories? Do you cut up the shows and show individual matches? Do you go strong with reality based programming and create additional wrestling shows exclusive to the network? If you were the program director for the new network, what is going to be shown on your channel?

It seems Jeff has left TNA. He hasn't disclosed why yet, but the past few years, the relationship between he and Dixie seemed to be rocky. Is it another effect of TNA downsizing? https://twitter.com/JeffJarrettTNA/statuses...197084347006977 Yeah, people leave all the time, but he was one of the founders and was apparently doing agent work in the back. He supposedly has/had a minority stake in the company too. I wonder if his relationship with his dad will improve now.
