  1. Clearly some shenanigans going on, but wow: http://www.tmz.com/2013/08/15/darren-young...-superstar-gay/ Cena's thoughts here: http://www.tmz.com/2013/08/15/john-cena-da...ay-support-wwe/ My immediate reaction is that most likely this was set up, as Young as pretty damn unphased. I'm less sure they told anyone, because while Cena's interview starts off well, it veers off to the point he clearly wasn't coached. Saying it's ok as long as he's "conducting himself professionally" and "not sneaking into the locker room" is not exactly what I'd expect from Cena if he knew this was coming. Good for Young, though!

  2. Started by Loss,

As soon as he gets through the AWA set, goodhelmet and I will be rolling this out on a fairly regularly basis. We've been brainstorming for some ideas for shows and think we have come up with some good ones, but feel free to contribute any other ideas you have for things we can talk about here. Things we'll likely do, for starters: * Yearbook shows * Today In Wrestling History * Audio discussion of some of the more heated debates on the board

I could have put this in the Ken Patera or WON HoF thread, but I didn't want it to get missed and this might spark some interesting side discussion on it's own. I am about to start working on a Gordy List for Patera and possibly an article of some sort. One of the things I'm trying to figure out is where during Patera's peak years he would rate as a heel in the U.S. The argument about when exactly his peak was is something I would rather hash out it in his thread (or perhaps the HoF thread), but for the purposes of this thread we are looking at 76-81. Obviously I have my own thoughts about whether or not Patera is an HoFer but for the purposes of these projects …

I missed the pre-show because my Blu-Ray player couldn't play the stream on any sites but it has youtube. Go figure. Anyway, feel free to post your thoughts as they happen here!!!

  5. I got to go to beyond Wrestling's Americanrana some weeks back. It was a great show and featured some fairly big name indie talent like Colt Cabana, Kevin Steen and MASADA. I hope I can make the trip down to Rhode Island again in a few weeks when they come back. Before that I went to a Big Time Wrestling show in Massachusetts. It's your typical indie that books some fairly big name wrestlers, but doesn't really get talked about much beyond the state. At the show I went to they had Matt Hardy, Bobby Lashly, Jim Duggan and Hillbilly Jim. How about you?

What's your favorite 5 tag teams of all time? I'll add mine soon, very interested to read what other's are, pretty sure mine are all American based (mostly 80's era) but I'll give it more thought before posting.. I personally always loved & still Love good tag team wrestling, when done right at story telling makes for some awesome stuff!

Ok, I was going to respond to a post in another thread about Christian not being world championship material. In this day and age where CM Punk is getting 400+ day World Title runs and Daniel Bryan is headlining Summerslam, how can you look at a guy and say he isn't World Champion material? The fact of the matter is that World Title material is anyone who the company chooses to be champion and can get over with the crowd regardless of promo ability or physique. So, what exactly is world champion matial to you? Is it based on physique, size, wrestling skills, promo ability? Don't just say the IT factor or I'll have new moderator Childs ban you!

I was watching a JCP show from 1985 the other day, and on the end of the DVD was was a Tommy Rich versus either Fire/Flame/Torch. It was in an arena and wasn't a studio taped match as I would expect from a southern terrority. The crowd was hotter than hot. Now I've picked some discs up from Khawk in a trade before, but to be honest where do I start? What matches, angles, years? Should I look at? It's a promotion that doesn't get much coverage?

Something that came across my mind during the 'Death of the territory' thread. Discounting those who owned the promotion, what wrestlers were synonymous with various territories? I don't think anyone worked for one territory and nobody else, even Lawler made the rounds, but I'm just wondering what wrestlers were more or less married to one place, to the point of when thinking of that promotion their name always springs to mind. The ones I've thought off offhand. Memphis: Bill Dundee, Phil Hickerson, and Eddie Gilbert. Mid South: Dr. Death

While thinking recently about how many wrestling styles there really are, it occurred to me that a lot of styles are rather fluid and tend to blend together. From there, I took some inspiration from goodhelmet's match suggestion thread and thought about coming up with a list of a handful (as in no more than 10) of matches that cover as broad a spectrum of styles as possible. Note that this isn't a best-of list, it's more of a sampler pack. I keep going back and forth with matches, but here's my current tentative list. Shawn Michaels vs. Mankind, In Your House: Mind Games I think this match best represents WWE Main Event style because it would have worked in just ab…

Recently I noticed that a lot more non-public domain and non-Creative Commons photos had shown up on Wikipedia, including promotional photos from old TV shows. When I clicked on one of the photos to see its info page since it didn't seem like something they'd classify as fair use, it was explained that since it was published between 1923 and 1977 without a copyright notice, it was public domain. I googled and found this page that's on Cornell University's website. For our purposes, the important part is that from 1923 to 1977, anything published without a copyright notice is public domain, and from 1978 to March 1, 1989, anything without copyright a notice that wasn…

Just thought I'd post this for people who struggle to get into Joshi because of some of the stylistic things. If you want more long-term selling and meaningful shifts in momentum, these are matches I'd highly recommend checking out. Akira Hokuto vs Toshiyo Yamada, AJW 5/3/93 Aja Kong vs Megumi Kudo, AJW 12/6/93 Lioness Asuka vs Yumiko Hotta, AJW 3/26/95 My comments aren't overwhelmingly positive, but this is still worth checking out. Aja Kong vs Kyoko Inoue, AJW 8/30/96

Here in Austin for the Raw takings so I figured we would do a love RAW thread. First Superstars match had the USOs vs. 3MB- Drew looked good connecting stiff on his strikes. USOs run through their Samoan offense and. A decent match to warm the crowd up.

Okay, I was expecting the Snuka articles to be discussed in the Meltzer thread, but there might be too much information to work with; hence, making a thread seems appropriate. I do feel it is important to preface my distrust of Muchnick. Basically, I read his book on the Benoit murders, and it was full of sensationalism. Granted, one could make a convincing argument that the upper brass knew in advance that Benoit killed his wife and kid. Obviously William Regal had his suspicions. But it's clear that most of WWE's grunts were caught by surprise. Whatever the case, that Muchnick decided to devote a whole chapter on the Wikipedia edit and then try to draw some infere…

It's pretty close to being a reality. It's an insanely loaded year. When we realized that the Cibernetico is followed by the Misawa/Kawada/Kobashi Carnival finals, and that's followed by the famous Austin/Bret streetfight on RAW, it really put in perspective how ridiculously good this year was. Many things that are borderline picks would be strong picks in just about any other year, and many things we'd normally include for filler just won't find their way on to this set. We'll end up leaving many good matches on the cutting room floor, but I think we're going to really capture what 1997 was all about, and the end result is that this should be the highest-quality yearbook…

Same concept as the IWA Mid South thread. I honestly had no idea what type of promotion this was until I started researching it last night. I figured it was another serious ROH-style fed. If anything, it's so strong in the opposite direction that it makes IWA Mid South look like ROH. Seems very dark and awesome. From 2000-2003, what is the key stuff that needs to make a yearbook? I was able to do 2004 since the Torch Archives had a really, really good recap/review guy who caught every single Wildside show that year, although if someone wants to recommend something specific, I can cross-check to make sure I got it.

I thought I was going to watch this show with a buddy at his place, but that plan is out the window, so I guess I'll just sit on the couch, have a few beers, stream this bad boy on my laptop and hang out with the PWO crew instead. Who needs the company of real, physical human beings anyway? My wife is out of town for the next few days and I've decided to spend most of my free time watching wrestling while she's gone. Last night was full of random matches like Piper/Shultz vs the Invaders, 2/20/84 MSG (pretty good BTW), Sting/Vader, Bash 92, War Games 94, and that wonderful Lucha match from 91 with the Ninja Turtles and Robin Hood. Tonight should be a good show, probably…

Are there any singles or tag teams over the years and promotions you liked that you didnt really understand why you did as they were either really bad in the ring or on the mic and didnt really leave a huge impression on the business except with you? I can start with one of mine: Kevin Kelly / Nick Kiniski (w/ Madusa) - AWA - 1987 These guys werent together for a long time in AWA (maybe a year?) but for some reason I was an am a fan.. I liked their mic work and their arrogance about how good they were even though everyone knew they weren't. Kelly was in GREAT shape at this time (not the Nailz he would become) and Kiniski rocked his dad's cool Canada jacket. …
