If you're in the WWE and you win or lose a match, how much money should you get it(in kayfabe)? I've been wondering this for a while and I figured I'd make a thread on it. Obviously a Wrestlemania victory should be worth more than a victory on Main Event, but what does everyone think would be fair purses for victories?

So, I'm looking at Solie.org's title histories site for the NWA National Heavyweight Title and come across this: Strikes me as a bit funny given that while not as big as it is today, but the information superhighway was still pretty darn big in 2000 that is would be hard to kayfabe away title changes in matches that didn't occur! I mean, its one thing for the 1979 Rio de Janerio tournament to declare the first WWWF IC champion when the only real coverage would be whatever local paper prints results of events, so the "wink wink, nudge nudge" is easy to play when your in a time and "place" where results would be hard to transmit from. But today, or well 14 years …

Does he realize how terrible he comes across when he says things like this? It is really weird and delusional to think that other wrestlers are not allowed to use ideas that you think you came up with. I'm not even entirely convinced that the ladder match is his creation. Anyway, use this thread to capture all future Bret Hart ego run amuck. Also: Every Canadian wrestler is great and American wrestlers tend to have attitude problems.

If you go to TV Tropes' Nightmare Fuel section and look at the pro wrestling folder, they mention Windham's "stalker" gimmick from 1996, and how the original intent was to have him feud with Marc Mero after he...get ready...slit Sable's throat. I am very skeptical of this, as this was yet another PG period (maybe PG-13, as you had blood and Goldust's original incarnation). But the TV Tropes article also claims that "Word of God" (meaning coming from the actors, directors, writers, etc.) confirms the planning of this angle. Does anyone know if this was for real, and if so, who was the person who mentioned it?

So today I was listening to a podcast here & reading some comments about the matches & wrestlers that were being discussed & it got me thinking, if you had to choose 3 guy's that were Ric Flairs best feuds of his career who would you all choose & why? Personally if I could only choose 3 I'd have to go with Sting, Dusty Rhodes, & Ron Garvin. It's hard leaving out Ricky Steamboat, Terry Funk, Lex Loser, Magnum TA, Blackjack Mulligan, Greg Valentine, Jack Briscoe, Harley Race & so many others but if I could only pick 3 Id have to go w/ the 3 I mentioned above, what do you guy's think, who would make your cut & who wouldn't & why?

Answer this in any way you want: all time, right now, historically at a particular place and time, whatever you want. Just interested to see the overall result. I have an expectation, but y'know, anything is possible.

I think it's fair to say that through out history, company aces have tended to be babyfaces. From Bruno to Hogan to Austin to Cena; from Big Daddy to Jumbo to Jerry Lawler etc. etc., most promotions have thought it wisest to base their fortunes around a guy that the fans cheer. I have been wondering about if it's even possible to have a heel in the role of ace. If it is, how can it be sustained over any period of time? I was thinking about instances where it is at least imaginable that someone might argue that the heel was the ace. I want to put forward 4 test cases: - Flair in Mid-Atlantic / JCP - Bockwinkel in AWA - Hogan in 96-7 WCW - HHH in early …

Ive got many confirmations that Matt Bourne aka the Original Doink the Clown passed away. He had been working the indy scene lately and had done a few seminars. Always a good guy to talk to and a good hand. I don't have the details as to what caused it but he was found by his girlfriend in Texas.

OK, I recently reconnected with a buddy of mine who is a huge wrestling fan. He isn't a guy who reads the sheets or knows wrestler's real names unless they popped up in an Apter mag. We're going to have a wrestling watching night soon and I am in charge of bringing the entertainment. He wants to see matches from around the world, from different territories but I am not looking for MOTYCs but more "sugar rush" matches that aren't too long but can entertain a crowd of 4 nerds for a few hours. This is what I am bringing so far (some from my own viewing and some from request)... Misawa vs. Kawada (January 1999) - This has Kawada wrestling with a broken arm, th…

I've been thinking recently about some landmark years, not in pro wrestling as a whole, but in certain promotions and what goes into making them great. I'm not talking about profitable years (though I'd wager a lot of the best years were successful ones) but years where companies were either putting on great matches or booking things extremely well. Everyone points to 1997 or 2000 as years where the WWF/E had their shit together but having rewatched a lot of 2007 recently, and maybe it's because it's when I started watching again, but it's really fun. John Cena is on fire from the first day of the year and continues until he's injured and even when the injuries moun…

Updates periodically on this dog-ugly blog here. It's not very good and I'll get bored soon, but in the meantime... The purpose really is to track the changes from Raw as a generic early 90s squash-a-thon to the story-driven interviewfest that it became, via Yokozuna, Stone Cold and Stephanie McMahon...

Need some help here... I have tried several times to get into Japanese wrestling, but just cant due to the commentary taking my attention as I dont speak Japanese and not a big understanding of everyone outside the big names... So....where can I learn about feuds and what built to big matches or why certain greats were against each other in the ring? Or was Japan not like the US wrestling in terms of storylines, was it just "this guy is good, this guy is good, get in the ring and go?" I mean no disrespect at all toward Japanese wrestling, and I REALLY want to enjoy matches that I keep hearing soo much great stuff about...but need some help!

http://www.amazon.com/Mad-Dogs-Midgets-Scr...s/dp/1770410945 So listeners to Wrestling Culture know about this book as we had Pat on some time back to talk about the book and Montreal. The interview was probably my favorite show we've done so if you haven't heard it go back and give it a listen. In any event I just finished the book tonight and I absolutely loved it. I'm going to say right away that it is not a book without flaws. It is a book written by Quebecers about Quebec wrestling so there is obviously going to be some bias present in the writing (as there is in all writing). There are some errors or unclear things at certain points in the book, some o…

I had a quick search and couldn't find any other threads about the Dragon Gate promotion. It's a promotion I'd quite like to watch a bit more of but having real trouble finding any lists of their best matches. I've managed to compile a small list of the most pimped matches I could find but theres not a lot of info out there, so here's my starting list and please add to it... 2004-09-17 Do FIXER (Genki Horiguchi, Magnum TOKYO & Dragon Kid) vs Kensuke Sasaki & The Florida Brothers 2005-07-03 Do FIXER (Genki Horiguchi, Ryo Saito & Dragon Kid) vs Blood Generation (CIMA, Don Fuji & Naruki Doi) (Open The Triangle Gate Titles) 2005-09-07 Blood Gen…

Following on from my first posts, I should acknowledge that my recent time spent listening to Where The Big Boys Play and the P2B podcasts are what brought me here. This is a two-fold post. Jushin Liger will be wrestling for Revolution Pro in London on Saturday, and I have got a ticket to go (as well as head off to the meet and greet beforehand). I was a massive Liger fan when younger, and couldn't really pass up the opportunity to meet the guy. He is fighting Prince Devitt, so should be a half decent match as well. Is anyone on the board coming? Secondly, as I have not really kept up with NJPW like I used to - what should I expect from a modern-day Liger match…

I felt this deserved its own thread, since it's one thing for indy groups like ROH to have these kind of problems but it's really inexcusable for one of the main promotions in a country to have a complete failure on this level. Short story is that AAA was offering Triplemania via iPPV on uStream yesterday, and it completely failed. Not a "the stream is laggy or broken up" thing, but completely failing to air any of the show. Worse, it took AAA almost halfway through the show to acknowledge there was a problem, and even then they are throwing uStream under the bus saying it's all their fault. Now keep in mind uStream has been showing New Japan iPPVs for months n…

- Can't believe Sheamus is only working pre shows now, he certainly is due a heel turn or something to make the fans give a fuck again - Opener was better than it had any right to be, the great crowd helped and the finish was really cool - Divas match was so-so - Ambrose is getting cheered like crazy

When Chad and I talked to Loss last month, he mentioned that Starrcade 89 is the first full show he'd watched in ages. I have a friend who has an almost militant (and in my view insane) stance when it comes to music albums. He argues that you're missing out on too much context if you skip tracks or hit "play all --> shuffle" on your i-pod. He insists on only listening to albums from start to finish and says this is the best way to get the best out of good music. I often make fun of him for this. I wanted to drill into this a bit more vis a vis wrestling though. I quite like watching full shows for a number of reasons. - shitty matches or "down time" some…

We all talk about Southern-style tags, but I find the term somewhat problematic. For one thing, it isn't always precisely defined. It sometimes seems like any match where someone is put in peril is classified as Southern, which is surely too broad. Also, the qualifier "Southern-style" implies that there are other styles of tag team match, but they aren't really talked about or even named. So what else is there? Well, after doing quite a bit of viewing, I've decided that All Japan tags constitute a distinct style separate from Southern tags. I'm thinking mainly of the big 90s tags like 6/9/95 and 12/6/96, but the basic elements can be seen at least as far back as Jumbo/Ten…

Do you think a few years later, or earlier, or even with a different gimmick, Candido and Pritchard could have made it as a tag team that would be remembered today as great? This of course without the Bodydonnas gimmick, but even with Sunny still with them. Candido and Sunny as their SMW roles and Pritchard as Dr. Tom, with a completely different gimmick in say 1996 or later?

OK, Does ANYONE know of ANYWHERE that has the original TV dates of WCCW TV, both syndicated and the Ft. Worth shows? I woudl love to see them in order to find out what I do and dont have... Of all the major promotions, this is the ONE that I have never seen weekly results with dates...outside the Legends first run dates (but those are re-runs!) Thanks...posted this on a few other forums as well to see what is out there...
